The Southern Suburbs Hindu Cultural Society (SSHCS) has once again had a very successful winter collection drive. The SSHCS would like to thank all those who donated generously to the project. Blankets, clothing and food parcels were distributed to Amazing Grace Children’s Home, TLC orphanage, Adishankra Ashram, Mother Theresa Home, St Mary’s Children’s Home and Johannesburg Children’s Home.SSHCS‘s other initiatives include a feeding scheme for underprivileged children; a health day, on which medical advice and services are provided free to the community; the winter collection and cultural activities. Contact Naresh Kuverjee on 083 287 4760 for further information.

The risk manager followed them and tried to get them to stop.”I think when they saw the signage on my bakkie they got a fright,” Russell explained. The suspects sped off, then waited for him around the bend on Vorster Avenue. As he came past, the passenger got out and shot several rounds at him. Russell ducked and his vehicle swerved on to the pavement.“I wanted to shoot back, but by the time I looked up again the vehicle had sped off.” The suspects were described as two coloured males. It was reported that another hijacking with the same modus operandi took place at a dealership in Midrand a few hours after the shooting in Vorster Avenue.Russell explained to tame TIMES that Sandton and Fourways are hotspots for this type of hijacking. “It is an easy target - there is only one person to remove all the vehicles off one truck and vehicles are not registered so they cannot be traced.”Cst Elizabeth Mnguni, Mondeor SAPS spokeswoman said, “A case of attempted murder has been opened.”

SCENE OF THE CRIME: The police indicated where the bullet casings fell by marking them with white paper and stones.

How do you handle it when someone swears directly at you? I experienced this last week and was quite insulted.I had picked up my nephews from school and dropped them off at their house. As I was pulling out of the driveway, I saw a man walk past and take a good look at the property. By the time I had started down the road, he was a few houses down and as I drove past it looked to me as if he were looking over one of the neighbours’ walls.I immediately stopped and turned around to go and confront him (please note that I do know this was not a safe thing to do - however, I attribute my Rambo confidence to attending the scene on Vorster Avenue where the shooting occurred (pg1) earlier that day.)I asked him, “Why are you looking over the wall?” He responded with, “Who are you?.... F*$! you. Are you bloody mad?” and motioned with his hand that he was urinating. I was so taken aback by the swearing and his constant hand motions by his waist area that I had no come-back and thought the safest thing would be to drive away. Now, even if he were urinating, that is still not acceptable - number one, it is illegal and, secondly, he was urinating against someone’s property and there were no trees for cover.I only wish I had been quick enough in my response to his swearing to tell him that.It is ironic, though, that I could be insulted by him swearing at me when I was insulting him by assuming that he was a criminal.Lesson learnt.

Booysens SAPS are still searching for Alex Thomas in connection with the murder of Winette Nyamakari, which took place in Thomas’s house in Turffontein on 28 June.It was reported in The Star newspaper that Nyamakari was found, lying in a pool of blood, by her mother at Thomas’s house. She had been decapitated with a grinder.Nyamakari was last seen by her mother on 24 June. It is alleged that Thomas had gone to Nyamakari’s workplace and asked that she be given the day off as he wanted them to go somewhere. The mother told The Star that on 25 June Thomas had called and asked her to fetch their son from crèche; however, they never came to pick him up.When the deceased‘s parents went to Thomas’s house, they found the door open and noticed that the house appeared to have been ransacked. Nyamakari’s mother saw blood and followed the trail to

the bathroom, where she found her daughter’s body covered in a blanket. It has been reported that the mother removed the blanket and saw that her daughter’s lifeless body was naked from the waist down and that her head was hanging.W/O Lorraine Van Emmerick, Booysens SAPS spokeswoman said, “Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of this person should please contact W/O Yende on 011 433 5200 or 082 557 6984. All information received will be kept confidential.”

The Samsung Store at The Glen Shopping Centre was robbed last Wednesday afternoon at around 14:20. Two armed men entered the store pretending to be customers and asked for an S3 battery. The Samsung shop assistant told them they did not have stock, but went to check the stockroom anyway. While he was busy there, one of the fake customers came in with his colleague, instructed them both to kneel down and held him up at gunpoint, demanding that he open the glass cabinet containing all the shop’s cellphones. The suspect then told him to put all the phones in a box and to open the safe. After tying up the two Samsung employees, the two armed men left the shop. Cst Rebecca Bila Moffatview SAPS spokeswoman said, “The following items were taken: Galaxy fame,X4 Galaxy Tab, X5 Galaxy S4 ANS s5, X2 Galaxy, X2 Gear, with a total value of R200 000.” Glen Maboe, General Manager of The Glen Shopping Centre said, “We can confirm that a robbery took place at the Samsung store and there were no injuries. We are currently co-operating with the law enforcement agencies in regard to the incident; furthermore we are continuously reviewing our security strategies in an effort to minimize and prevent such incidents from occurring. The Glen would like to assure our shoppers of our continued commitment to ensure a safe shopping environment.”

Fake customers steal Samsungs worth R200kTwo men were arrested on the night of 29 July at a plot in Voortrekker Road, Walkerville after the South African Police Services were tipped off. It is alleged that police caught the men in the act of manufacturing drugs when they burst in, although some of the suspects managed to escape.Gauteng SAPS spokesman Col Lungelo Dlamini said, “Drugs, chemicals and equipment with an estimated value of more than R12 million were confiscated.” He added that the garage on the property was allegedly used to manufacture drugs.Chemicals in both powder and liquid form, pots, gas-burners and Mandrax powder in pre-tablet form were found. The two men, one in his mid-fifties and the other in his early forties, are believed to be part of a syndicate that distributes drugs to various dealers in the country. One of the men is the owner of the plot. The two men appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has moved the traffic light on the corner of Middle Lane and Oak Avenue in Oakdene. It was in the middle lane, preventing normal traffic movement, but is now on the pavement. However, Clr Jane explained that this is not the end of the robot saga at the intersection. “There will be another change within the next few weeks (hopefully). The slipway has caused the total width of the road to exceed the limit that allows for robot placement on pavements. What is now required is a cranked pole with a robot head above the ‘slow’ lane, like the one at the Prairie/Verona intersection.”Clr Jane added, “In addition, legislation also requires that an engineer design the sequencing of the traffic lights not only at the intersection in question but also at adjacent intersections. All these designs and plans should be deliverable soon, so keep an eye on the intersection for the final installation.”

This traffic light keeps changing

CORRECTED: The robot has been moved into the correct place so traffic can flow properly.

Fuel price increases for August are likely to be lower than was predicted by the mid-July data. This is according to the Automobile Association (AA) which said that unaudited daily fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund on 30 July showed a more favourable picture than the mid-month outlook.

“The average exchange rate has remained steady since our update of two weeks ago, but the important factor has been a flattening of international petroleum prices,” the AA said.“This has allowed the petrol price in particular to make up some lost ground, with data currently predicting 93 octane petrol to remain largely unchanged, while 95 octane is set to increase by about three cents per litre. This contrasts positively with

the 26 cents per litre increase shown by the mid-month data.” The Association commented that increases of around ten cents per litre were likely for diesel, and eight cents per litre for illuminating paraffin. However, the AA warned that the flattening trend for fuel prices may not last. “The basic fuel price has shown some upward momentum since 25 July and motorists would be advised to keep a close eye on their driving techniques and vehicle use in case this trend continues through August.”

The Green Business Platform held their monthly meeting last Friday at Thaba Eco Hotel. Rochelle Ludick, Regional Manager of Pikitup, was the guest speaker and spoke about Pikitup’s new programme Jozi@work - keep our planet clean.Pikitup is implementing a number of new approaches and measures for combating illegal dumping, littering and providing easy-to-implement recycling initiatives. This is a key priority for the City of Johannesburg (CoJ): “a World Class African City.” Joburg’s transformation into a world-class city begins with presenting a clean and hygienic environment to all city residents and visitors. The Jozi@work will pilot in Zonde, Soweto this September with the rest of CoJ to be implemented in the beginning of 2015. Ludick explained that currently Pikitup’s transport cost for waste collection is R1 million and this project will involve the community taking responsibility for service delivery issues - with the community and Pikitup meeting half way and teaming up to clean up Johannesburg. The objectives are: to divert waste away from landfills- this will save valuable airspace and ultimately reduce transportation cost of waste to landfills, conversion of waste into a resource; reduction in littering and illegal dumping through the educational value of the project, a clean, liveable environmental and sustainability; support for City’s Jozi@work- developmental service delivery efforts; contribution to the City’s poverty alleviation efforts as it provides opportunities for sustainable job creation and enterprise development; promotion of active citizenship through enabling all communities to take part in preserving and protecting the environment; over the long run creating electricity and power for the people and re-engaging communities and civil society to respond to service delivery.

Ludick said the biggest challenge is the by-laws as a Pikitup officer cannot issue a fine to illegal dumpers and there is no way to ensure that JMPD is following up to ensure the dumpers are getting fined. She explained the plan is to establish Pikitup rangers that are linked to a depot. They will be trained and will be able to issue out fines and will get assistance from the courts. She added that 75 percent of illegal dumping is attributed to building rubble, so building rubble plants will be set up where builders will be able to dump their rubble free of charge. This plant will crush the rubble in order for it to be re-used in road surfacing or recycled back into construction materials. To view Ludick’s full presentations please visit www.klipsa.org.za.

Cotlands celebrated their 78th birthday last Friday on 1 august with 70 cupcakes – each with an orange C on top - donated by mad maude Celebration, for staff to enjoy.Even though Cotlands has much to celebrate with their many great accomplishments and the wonderful way they are impacting communities with their toy libraries, they had to downplay their celebration as times are tough financially. As Cotlands enters their second financial quarter, they find themselves almost R4 million short, which places a tremendous burden on their ability to meet operational demands.

Each child that visits a Cotlands toy library or attends their early learning playgroups is special. So, each donation the community makes, each fundraising event that it participates in, each tin that gets filled, is an expression of South Africa’s commitment to that child. For 78 years Cotlands has cared for thousands of children, having watched them grow, thrive and shine. Cotlands plan to do this good work for at least another 78 years and refuses to allow the current obstacles to stand in the way of caring for children who are South Africa’s future - so please help Cotlands to turn their financial situation around.

By far the biggest transport issue presently on the lips of South Africans is e-Tolls. This issue has been handled poorly from the very beginning. The voters of Gauteng have been making their feelings felt with their peaceful defiance campaign by not signing onto the e-tag system. Their feelings were clearly further demonstrated when they reduced the ANC’s support from 64, 4% in the 2009 election to 53, 59% in this year’s election. The ANC is Gauteng is now desperate to show its voters that it is on their side on this issue and is trying to fool them into thinking that they are doing something positive for them there. The partly failed SANRAL bond auction on 2 July which only raised R275 million out of the total bids of R465 million shows that investors are nervous.Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s announcement of the Gauteng Provincial Government review of the e-Tolls system is nothing more than a public relations stunt. The e-Tolls system is governed by national legislation; therefore the only body that is empowered to legitimately review the system and make pronouncements on its future is Parliament, through the Portfolio Committee of Transport. The review panel must therefore be a Parliamentary Committee. Why is Minister Peters remaining silent on this while Premier Makhura continues with this charade? The DA is calling on the Minister to show leadership, and support the need for the review of e-Tolls to take place in Parliament. The terms of reference for the Gauteng E-Tolls Review Panel announced by the Premier clearly indicates that the panel is not empowered to take any action against e-tolls.The people of South Africa need to see action on this issue, and not just a “talk-shop” in Gauteng that has no legal powers. The cost of this Review Panel will take public funds away from other critical needs, yet it can make no meaningful changes to the e-Tolls scheme. The DA will continue this fight against e-Tolls, which are an economic burden and were imposed upon South Africans without any meaningful consultation. Our position is that the fuel levy ought to be directed solely to road construction and maintenance, which will further negate the need for e-Tolls.I have already written to the Head of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Robert McBride, to request an urgent investigation into the utilisation of the traffic enforcement agencies by SANRAL for the purpose of coercing motorists to purchase e-tags.

I would like to thank Laurelle from tame TIMES for her assistance with the pensioner rebate form as we do qualify for a rebate. However, what bothers us is that we do have to pay an amount for the bins. When we received our accounts this month we had an increase of almost R29 to R30 on this. At this

rate, the amount will be as much as we paid before the rebate.

EDITOR’S NOTE: tame TIMES has requested clarification on this query. Clr Dennis Jane’s response will be published next week.

Thank you tame TIMESA Glenvista Renaissance Retirement Village resident writes:

I would like to honour the following four gentlemen - Antonio Germano, Paseka Matlhaku, Richard Stevens and Thomas Maboho - for always doing their best by dedicating time to make sure that Donnington Drive Park becomes the best park in Glenvista. They really deserve praise without a doubt. They also devoted 67 minutes on Mandela Day to cleaning the park, also creating employment by hiring three young men to

assist in the cleaning of the park. The spirit is high among these community members and they do everything in their power to ensure the success of the park by making every day Mandela Day. They improve every day as a team and they have seen how tough it is to upgrade the park from day one; and, with the support of City Parks and other community members, they keep on pumping until they realise their dream of having a flagship park.

Prominent Walkerville businessman Steve Badenhorst sadly passed away on Sunday, 20 July 2014. He will be deeply mourned by his loving family and friends. Steve was the owner of Walkerville Feeds for the past 25 years and leaves behind Sanet, with whom he has been for 23 years. Sanet will now be taking over all the responsibilities at Walkerville Feeds. tame TIMES wishes his family strength in this difficult time.

Condolences to Badenhorst family

It goes from bad to worse. First, we hear that the NPA will be prosecuting motorists who have not paid their e-Tolls. Now we hear from the Minister that the NPA is not going to prosecute. The constant flip-flopping is a farce. The truth is that it simply cannot prosecute because the e-Toll billing system is in shambles. The regulations state that SANRAL has to issue invoices for road users to pay. Motorists qualify for a discount if they pay within 7 days. This is where the problem comes in - invoices are only issued 40 or 50 days later so no one is able to pay a discounted amount in the first place. The Minister’s announcement that the payment period has been extended to 51 days is a de facto admission by her that this system in its current form is a disaster. But the story does not end there. What happens to all the bills issued in the last 7 months since the system went live? Are these exonerated? There has been no clarity on these matters. It is clear that the Minister is trying to fix this system long after the system has been launched. I am asking the Minister questions in this regard. The replies will no doubt be most interesting.

Halt on NPA prosecutions creates questionsManny de Freitas DA MP, writes:

Dikwels is daar baie eenvoudige verduidelikings vir snaakse omstandighede.

Three suspects were arrested in Vosloorus by Sgt Hlatswayo from Moffatview SAPS for hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm on 22 July.Detective Sgt Hlatswayo received information from an anonymous person that a vehicle used in a hijacking was seen. The member also received information that the original rims from the hijacked vehicle had been sold and the vehicle now had different rims on.The SAPS officer visited the address. A group of males were seen, as well a Renault parked in the yard. A black Audi was also parked next door. Back-up was requested. The members entered the house. One male was found in possession of a firearm which he could not produce a license for. Another firearm was found in a handbag in a room and a second person was arrested. Two car keys were found in their pockets - one was for the Audi and one for a Mazda. The members proceeded to open the Audi and saw the dashboard was tampered with. Sgt Mpai searched the Audi and found items which were linked to a case he was investigating. The chassis number/registration was checked and it turned out to be a black Audi which was stolen in Brackendowns. The members proceeded to search another male, who was also arrested. The members, together with the suspects, proceeded to the place where the rims were sold and obtained a statement.

He was given bail, but never returned to court. His photograph was then placed in two local newspapers.Sgt Magane was the investigating officer.

Booysens SAPS would like to warn the owners of the said businesses that it is an offence to buy stolen property and these planned operations will be an ongoing campaign in the Booysens area.Station management would like to thank all role-players who assisted with the operation for their hard work and dedication in the fight to beat crime.

The JHB SAPS Cluster kicked off Women’s Month by holding a road block in Prairie Street, Rosettenvile next to Junction Mall in conjunction with JMPD and the SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) on 1 August.Ninety percent of the officers were all female officers, with just a few male officers to help search the men who were stopped.Brigadier Susan Pitout, Sophiatown SAPS station commander, told tame TIMES that the aim of the road block was to check for drugs, unlicensed firearms and hijacked vehicles in each policing area’s hotspots.“We are mostly women here, and the initial thought of the road block is to celebrate our female officers as we are the salt of the earth

and add a softer approach to our services. As you can see, we all have a passion and love for our jobs,” Brigadier Pitout said. While tame TIMES was on the scene, a vehicle was pulled over. The vehicle had Botswana registration plates and license disc; however, after further inspection it was found that the license disc was a photo copy and that the vehicle was actually from South Africa. The vehicle was impounded and tame TIMES is still awaiting confirmation on what happened to the driver.tame TIMES would like to wish all female SAPS and JMPD officers a happy Women’s Month and thank them for their brave and dedicated service.

Following a demanding and life-altering four months of hard work, dedication and sincere commitment to the environment and the community, the Miss Earth South Africa (MESA) organisation has announced the 16 finalists for the 2014 title. Two of the finalists are proudly from the South: Nita Kandasamy from Winchester Hills and Degrecia Zwane from Brackenhurst. The other finalists are: Ilze Saunders, Jennifer Williamson, Lara Botha, Lutholwethu Zimema, Margo Fargo, Michillay Brown, Mishka Patel, Odirile Sepeng, Reathibile Kolobo, Roxanne Watson, Shannon Roscher, Steffani Alexander, Tayla Robinson and Victoria Kitley. The MESA leadership programme kicked off in March with nationwide educational workshops, after which finalists were required to complete a list of tasks to make a real and sustainable difference in their communities. “I strive to be a role model for my generation and to set an example for future generations and to share my passion

for Mother Earth and conservation. With family as my centre, I am a grounded individual who loves a good challenge. Part of my reason for entering Miss Earth South Africa is to help preserve the beauty of nature and to create a sustainable green future to pass on to my family, community and the rest of the world,” Kandasamy said.Assignments were centred on tree planting, creating sustainable food gardens, several energy efficiency activations for Grade Four learners in partnership with Eskom and Carbontrack, and general humanitarian initiatives across South Africa. As these young South African women needed to display a strong consciousness towards supporting simultaneous social projects, they were tasked with drives for

stationery donations, second- hand clothing, blankets, non-perishable food and animal food collections. The young women enthusiastically collected and distributed clothing, reaching over 50 different homes with their donations nationwide. “My motto is to inspire, educate and uplift others through my actions; whether small or great. Miss Earth South Africa has given me the platform to focus on my actions to plant a seed in people’s lives and involve companies to support green initiatives and contribute to causes for positive change,” Zwane, an Environmental Consultant at Digby Wells Environmental said. Each participant went out, planned and implemented a sustainable food garden through sponsorships obtained by them to assist a school, a home or a community in need.

tame TIMES wishes Kandasamy and Zwane all the best going forward to the Miss Earth SA gala.

Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director of Miss Earth South Africa leadership initiative and JHB South resident, has been recognised as one of the Top 200 Young South Africans for 2014. Now in its ninth year, the Mail & Guardian initiative searched the country to find young people who have the potential to be future leaders. Nominations were assessed by collection of data from readers and editorial staff, as well as general research on each nominee. The task was to select 200 individuals aged 35 and under, who have an impact on arts and culture, business and law, civil society, education, health, film and media, politics and government, sciences and technology, sport and the environment.Having travelled across the world to share her passion for sustainable community development, Constantinides has shared platforms with heads of state, activists, international business moguls, celebrities, sports stars and freedom fighters, voicing the opinion of the youth of Africa, ensuring that their views are included as a key part of the global conversation in the development of the continent. “While I am sincerely honoured that my environmental efforts have been recognised, and to have been included as one of the Top 200 South Africans, my work is far from done. Until local policymakers, businesses, environmental experts, educators and communities can agree on a strategy to turn challenges into opportunities, we will always need to fight for the environment. I strive for an environment that is safeguarded and an earth that does not need protecting,” Constantinides said. The Archbishop Tutu African Oxford Fellow was also recognised as the Top Young Woman in Business 2014 and in 2013, and also received the Premier Business Award presented by the Department of Trade and Industry, Brand SA, Proudly SA and the Mail and Guardian Greening the Future award.

The ninth annual SOJO Christmas in July was held on 26 July at Calisto’s Restaurant and a merry time was had by all supporters. Cotlands was the selected charity for this year’s event and guests could purchase toys from Upcycle on the evening that would in turn be donated to Cotlands for their toy libraries.Upcycle, also known as the toy hospital, makes toys out of waste, turning trash into treasure. SOJO’s CEO Nicky Vakaloudis was proud of killing three birds with one stone through the event: helping the environment, while creating employment and educating a mother and child. The guests were treated to a typical Calisto’s three-course meal and lucky draws were held with prizes sponsored by Gold Reef City Theme Park (an overnight stay for a family of four with entrance to the Theme Park), Gino’s Pizzeria (meal vouchers), Sinzinani Spa (full body massages), Southview Lodge (two overnight stays for 6 people) were given to the lucky recipients.A delightful Christmas cake valued at R1500 and baked by Denni Dorning was raffled. The official handover of the toys will take place later this year.

SOJO would like to thank Graphic Printing Services for sponsoring the printing of the program, menu and invitations that were distributed, tame TIMES and Caxton for always supporting SOJO in their community work and events; Calisto’s for sponsoring the venue and Harry Talas and Sue Green for entertaining the guests and Panorama Pick & Pay Liquor for the table wine and not forgetting SOJO’s little helpers, Rowland Rudman, Megan Rodway, Trevor Pettit, Tacia Vakaloudis and Nicole Rodway.

Team South Africa have made fellow South Africans proud at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where we ended seventh on the Glasgow 2014 medal ranking. Team SA took home 13 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals - a total of 40 medals. Among the many local achievers at the Games was female wrestler Mpho Madi, from the Boksburg Wrestling Club. Madi won a bronze medal for her team, which is an exceptional achievement, as she is the first South African female wrestler ever to win a medal for wrestling at the Commonwealth Games.Madi locked horns with Shannon Hawke of Scotland on day seven of the Games for the bronze medal and beat Hawke in the first round by pinning her. Canada and India were two of Madi’s strongest contenders, but she did not lose hope and persevered until she had a medal in her hand. Madi’s coach, Nico Coetzee, Head Coach of SA Wrestling, Eastern Gauteng and Boksburg Wrestling Club, has been working very hard to prepare his team for the Games and is over the moon about Madi’s exceptional achievement: “I am extremely proud of her; her dedication is remarkable and, considering her back ground, even more so. Working with athletes like Mpho is inspiring and shows you sport can contribute to building and forming

people’s characters and life paths.” Madi’s fellow Boksburg Club wrestlers also fared very well: Adem Digovich finished ninth and Armando Hietbrink also won a bronze medal.Madi joined the Boksburg Wrestling Club in 2010 and has been training under Coetzee at a national level since 2006. Madi participated at the Games in India in 2010 and was placed fourth. Her goal was to medal at the 2014 Games and she achieved her goal. According to Coetzee, Madi gave the following comment about her achievement: “I feel extremely happy. I didn’t do it only for myself but for my coaches, mom and Kids Haven where I lived in Benoni.” According to Coetzee, Madi’s achievement will hopefully encourage more female wrestlers to join the sport. He believes that young South African women are determined to succeed and that South Africa has a great talent pool with which we can work.Coetzee is equally proud of all 11 wrestlers whom he coached for the Games and he hopes that they have made their fellow South Africans proud too: “I knew we would win medals and think we were extremely unlucky not to win at least two more. But it remains sport and small mistakes at this level make a big difference in the final result. Nevertheless, I am extremely proud of each and every team member.”

Wade “Warrior” Groth (26) has moved down to Featherweight division from Lightweight division and will face Peter “Kratos” Nyide this Thursday at the Extreme Fighting Championships (EFC) 32 at Carnival City. Groth told tame TIMES that he is looking forward to see how he performs in a lighter division and how his body will handle the cut in weight, adding that he is willing to fight anyone he has to fight in order to claim the Featherweight Title. The Forest Hill resident won over many fans with his last fight when he knocked out Alex Cheboub in the second round at EFC 29. This has made him the crowd favourite for this bout. His EFC fight record also proves his worth, as Groth won three out of his five fights. He won via KO (body hook) against Ashley Calvert; lost against Don Madge via technical knock-out (TKO); lost via submission against Marcus Taljaard; won via judges’ decision against Kalil Akleka and won the last bout via TKO against Cheboub. Groth said that he has learnt much from his losses and considers them great fights as well.Groth initially used mixed martial arts (MMA) as a fitness tool to better his endurance levels when he was doing pre-season soccer fitness four years ago. “I really enjoyed the training and how technical the training became. I was hooked pretty quickly,” he said.

He enjoys the discipline that is necessary in MMA - not only in training but also when stepping into the hexagon, as well as the lifestyle that goes with it.The 1.77m fighter explained to tame TIMES that he concentrates on strength and conditioning as well as being a well-balanced allround fighter when training. Nicholas White coaches him in the former, while Walter Wendt coaches him in the latter. He trains at Kombat Gym in Steeldale. “It’s more of a

family than a gym - a place you can call home during the long days of fight camp. Dom,

Christy and Walter make the gym work well for all who train there. You know when you walk in you are training under the best and with the best,” Groth said.Groth’s name Wade means warrior in Japanese, so tame TIMES hopes his

warrior skill will once again be a highlight of EFC 32.
