At Connect2Care we have a positive vision of what apprenticeships can do: improve individuals’ skills and therefore their life chances;
make businesses more efficient; and boost the economy. People are at the centre of everything we do; that goes for our own staff as well as those we serve. We take pride in helping people become the best they can be.
03
Welcomeprofessionalism of your staff will also help to motivate individual staff members benefiting you through improved retention and reduced staff turnover.
At Connect2Care, we understand the needs of owners, managers and employees within the health and social care sector. We can work in partnership with you to ensure that your organisational and individual training requirements are met. You will gain access to our team of 250 trainer-assessors across the country, all with practical experience of this sector. Connect2Care’s involvement will help boost your business performance and increase your personal competence and skill set.
Work-based learning is recognised as the most successful learning route to gain new workplace skills. Astute employers build work-based learning and apprenticeships into their organisation and embed the concept within their work routines. Connect2Care’s work-based learning and apprenticeship programmes are delivered on-site with the minimal off-job and
off-site training. Connect2Care accesses government funding for apprentices and adult skills training, making our fees for NVQ delivery and assessment substantially cheaper than commercial, university or college course fees. The government will fully or partly fund most apprenticeship programmes and provide ‘student’ loans for employees to undertake NVQs at all levels, including supervision at Level 3 and management at Level 5.
At Connect2Care, we have sourced what we believe are the pre-eminent programmes and qualifications within the health and social care sector. Call us today for an informal chat about how you or your organisation could benefit from Connect2Care’s training and development programmes.
Jill Whittaker FCA CONNECT2CARE - MANAGING DIRECTOR
When people search for care provision for a family member or friend, there is a lot to consider including location, cost, activities programme, facilities, menus, and health care. It is so important to get everything right. Because people tend to do business with people they like and respect, the deciding factor will be the friendliness, professionalism and attitude of the staff. Care staff are the front line ambassadors of the business, so investing in their training and development will pay dividends. When care staff perform at the top of their game, reputations are enhanced, good inspection reports achieved and maximum occupancy is obtained.
With an increasing aging population, health and social care is one of the few sectors that continues to expand and recruit more staff. Perceptive employers know that staff development is the smart way to help grow their business. Well trained, enthusiastic and competent employees are a valuable asset and can help a business maintain a competitive edge by delivering improved efficiency, enhanced levels of customer service and increased margins. of care providers to analyse their training
requirements. This enables Connect2Care to
identify any training and development needs
of an individual or organisation and plan their
development for the future.
Clients we currently work with will gladly provide you with testimonials of the staff development work Connect2Care has undertaken for them.

as continuing to recruit new apprentices to ‘grow our
own’ we will also be promoting apprenticeships to
existing staff members within a variety of roles across the
sector, with the same credibility as a degree pathway.
Sharon Stead, Employability Services Manager,
Care Plus Employability Services
My experience with Connect2Care has been extremely positive. Our Connect2Care
Trainer-Assessor, always keeps me apprised of the progress of all our apprentices, and
her patience and understanding of their needs has been remarkable. It’s because of this person-
centred approach that we see such fantastic progress for our staff. We plan to continue enrolling
more employees in further training to help them improve their knowledge and realise their
ambitions. These objectives quite simply wouldn’t be achievable without the help of
Connect2Care and HIT. Wendy Dunk, HR Manager, Signature at Moorlands Lodge
I am truly grateful to have worked with my Trainer-
Assessor, who provided me with a great deal of support
throughout the NVQ Level 2 course that I completed with
Connect2Care. By consistently seeing the best in me and
encouraging me to achieve my goals, he helped me to
gain more confidence and believe in myself.

The Chancellor’s 2015 budget announcement of a levy from 2017 to pay for apprenticeships was confirmed in the Autumn Statement setting the rate at 0.5% of a company’s payroll to be paid by all companies with an annual payroll over £3million. If you are responsible for the staff training and development of your company, now is the time to take advantage of the current apprenticeship programme. The next page details the full depth of apprenticeship provision, dispels the myth that it is only for 16 to 18 year old school leavers and explains how higher apprenticeships at levels four and five can be used to develop your management and senior management teams. For 2016 only, until the levy starts in April 2017, apprenticeships will still be fully funded by the government, so you will have no cash contributions to pay for any of your staff who you sign up before that date.
It makes sense to get involved with apprenticeships now at every level. So talk to us today about how you can maximise your levy contributions and be ahead of the game when the levy is introduced.

Apprenticeships are not just restricted to school or college leavers!
In fact there is no age limit. They are available to any of your existing staff who require new skills or are moving to a new job role.
The only restrictions are that apprenticeships are not available to employees who already have a first degree unless they are taking a Higher Apprenticeship at Level 5 or above. Certain restrictions also apply to foreign nationals from outside of the European Union. If they do not meet this criterion they can still apply for an apprenticeship. A local Connect2Care consultant can discuss a self-funded option suitable for you or any of your staff.
So all your staff at all levels can benefit and you can use the apprenticeship programme to fund your training and development budget.
Those aspiring to senior management, or those already in post without a formal qualification, can undertake a Level 5 management qualification, equivalent to a Degree.
Apprenticeships for all your staff
Intermediate Apprenticeships at Level 2 provide any new or existing staff who need to upgrade their skills with the opportunity to gain qualifications with Connect2Care, accredited by Pearson BTEC. These cover all job roles in the hotel and catering industry.

Bespoke training and short courses
In addition to our range of professional qualifications,
Connect2Care is able to create bespoke training solutions
tailored to your specific organisational needs. We partner with
professional training organisations so we can offer a variety
of short courses to help you develop your staff, comply with
legislation and grow your business. Whether it be soft skills
like Communication and Teamwork or compliance training
in Food Safety and Nutrition or Manual Handling, we will
work with you both pre-event and post-event to ensure
that your staff receive the highest level of training and
understanding from our expert trainers.
Whether your team would benefit from a tailored
offering of one of our existing qualifications, or a bespoke
training course developed to meet your specific needs, we
would welcome the opportunity to work with you to create a
personalised programme.
More importantly, your input ensures that the final product has an
applied and practical approach that will impact on your workplace and
produce results that match your objectives.
TraineeshipsTraineeships provide a programme of work experience for a school leaver or unemployed young
person, giving them their start for a career in the health and social care industry.
At Connect2Care, we work with employers and prepare young people
for the world of work with fundamental employability qualifications,
such as food hygiene or customer service. They then participate
in unpaid work experience for up to five months. At no wage
cost to your business, you could have a young person on
full time work experience beginning to learn a trade in
our sector. At any time during their five months work
experience, if you have a suitable apprenticeship
vacancy and the trainee’s work is satisfactory, you may
offer them employment.

Equipping staff to deliver the best care
At the heart of any care provider is the care itself. Employers need to know their care staff and supervisors are delivering high quality, person-centred care 24/7 as this reflects positively on the quality of services provided. Equipping staff with the skills and knowledge to provide this care through quality training programmes is always a good investment.
Supporting and developing individual staff enriches their lives and those that they care for, and
gives the organisation tangible commercial benefits too. Well trained competent staff will work
more efficiently and perform better, ultimately delivering improved care. These professional
care qualifications will enable staff to improve their practical skills and competence to deliver
high quality care to residents or clients. Uniquely the Connect2Care trainer assigned to work
with your team will have had a background in the sector
and understands what constitutes good care.
Enabling and encouraging staff to study for
accredited qualifications through bite-
sized chunks of learning will also lead
to enhanced work skills, increased job
satisfaction and lower staff turnover.
Ultimately, outstanding standards
of care will satisfy CQC inspectors.

Strong leadership is the key to outstanding care
Excellent care and positive experiences stem directly from strong leadership, so the inspiration and direction provided by supervisors and managers to your care staff is crucial. The success of any business is determined by the ability of the staff to deliver its promises. This in turn is defined by the quality of leadership the management team shows.
Investing in training to improve a manager’s skills and boost their performance will
pay dividends which will permeate through the whole organisation. Enabling and
encouraging senior staff to study for accredited qualifications will lead to improved
technical and supervisory skills, greater job satisfaction and lower staff turnover.
Ultimately, delivery of outstanding standards of care will satisfy CQC inspectors.
These professional care qualifications will enable
staff to improve their practical skills and
competence to deliver high quality care to
residents or clients. Most Connect2Care’s
Trainer-Assessors have a management
background in the care world, so we
understand the ins and outs of the
sector and will help you develop
your supervisors and grow your
existing management team.

Enhance the dining experience
For residents living in care homes or those receiving care elsewhere, mealtimes
are one of the highlights of the day. People eagerly look forward to their meals
and relish tasty, appetising, healthy and well-presented dishes. Just as important
to the meal-time experience is the decor, atmosphere, food presentation and the
customer service and welcoming skills of the staff.
Investment in staff training and development is the key to ensuring success in these
important areas. Staff must be confident and competent to deliver what’s required.
Highly trained chefs, cooks and catering staff who are skilled, reliable, demonstrate flair
and produce meals within time and budgetary constraints are desirable. Serving staff must
know how to use their waiting skills appropriately for
your service users, blending communication
and a friendly ear with technical ability.
These professional catering qualifications
will enable staff to improve their
practical skills and competence.
The learning is delivered by
HIT Trainer-Assessors with a
background in care sector
catering and practical
experience of the relevant
occupational competence.

First impressions count
A welcoming atmosphere, light and breezy decor, with a clean and sparkling environment should be the first impression visitors receive. This will ensure maximum occupancy and a care home maintained to a high standard.
Housekeeping, cleaning and facilities staff must be well equipped to deliver what’s
required with confidence and competence. This comes from investment in high quality
staff training and development, and Connect2Care is your ideal partner. Our policy of
putting trainers and learners from the same skill sector together adds value to the learning
experience and benefits your organisation with professional training and advice.

Getting the front and back office right
A warm welcome from a friendly attentive receptionist will ensure every visit gets off to a good start. Residents, staff and volunteers will also enjoy a pleasant exchange with the front of house team. As well as being the first person that visitors meet, the receptionist is the eyes and ears of the organisation, so customer service skills must be second to none.
Professionally running a care home is managing a business, so a strong back office team is
invaluable. Business administration, staff rotas, ordering stationery and supplies, managing the
accounts, performing the HR function, liaising with residents and relatives and even fundraising
for the activities programme; you need to be able to rely on
these important staff to perform all these duties, and
more. Good training can make all the difference.
Connect2Care’s team of trainers

administration which ensures
the training hits the mark and
produces tangible commercial

Well trained, enthusiastic and

Without them, information would be hard to find, meetings would be missed and businesses would be less productive.
