Dynamic Catholic, Alive! More Joy!
Happy Gaudete Sunday! How comforting and inspiring the first reading from Zephaniah is: God rejoices over us and de-lights in us! When we understand and stand firm in the truth that our God rejoices in us, we are able to rejoice and shout for joy as well. Just because we are joyful in the Lord does not mean that everything is perfect in our life or that there are no hardships we must wrestle with daily. We will continue to face trials in this earthly life - sickness, loss, and pain - but the joy of the Lord and our joy in Him will sustain us in the long run. Our challenge for today and the rest of this week is to pray for an outpouring of joy in our lives and a deeper understanding of the joy God has because of us. When we are truly grateful for the gifts we have received in life and embrace our identity as adopted sons and daughters of God, loved completely by our Creator, we can experience authentic joy and share it with oth-ers so that they too might experience the Good News of salva-tion. archstl.org/dynamic

Many people take this time of the year to catch up with their Sunday contributions to
the parish. Charitable contributions to the parish for 2018 need to be submitted by Dec. 30. The parish office will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Emil Frei & Associates has finished their work on the church windows. They sparkle during a sunny day! Those windows needing repair have been fixed. All the windows now have protective covering on them. A reminder that we need help with decorating the church for Christmas on Saturday morning, Dec. 22 at 9am. Younger people who are able to do some climbing are particu-larly needed. Let us pray for each other this week.

Stewardship Awareness “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.” Philippians 4:6 St. Paul reminds us that our God is an abundant God, the ultimate giver of gifts. He promises to give us all that we need. When we trust that God will take care of us, it is easier for us to share what we have been given.
Chili for St. Patrick Center If you are able to help, please take a foil pan in the vestibule, make a batch of chili, freeze it in the foil pan, then bring the frozen chili to church and place it in the vestibule on the 3rd Monday of the month, Dec. 17 by 9am. Thank you!
SCRIP CONTEST - Ends tomorrow, Dec. 17. Students have a chance to win free scrip by having
the most sales! First place will win $30 in scrip, second place will win $20 in scrip, and third place will win $10 in scrip. EARLY RELEASE - Fri., Dec. 21 at 11am CHRISTMAS BREAK - Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. School will resume on Jan. 3.

SUNDAY, DEC. 16 3pm - 4:15pm Bring your family and friends and come celebrate the reason for the season with a free Advent/Christmas concert offered by internationally known Catholic recording artist, Donna Cori Gibson and sponsored by St. Joseph Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus. More help is needed in decorating our Church for Christmas. Therefore, it will now take place on the Saturday before Christmas, Dec. 22 at 9am. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
With the introduction of tax reform this year, there are ways you can continue to donate and save taxes. If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can
use the IRA charitable rollover to make a tax-free gift to St. Joseph. The law allows you to transfer directly from your IRA without paying taxes on the distribution and this gift can satisfy all or part of your required distribution. The transfer doesn't generate taxable income or a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you don't itemize your tax deductions. If you are not 70 1/2, you can name St. Joseph as a beneficiary of your IRA. These assets remain taxable when distributed to a loved one, but are tax free when donated to St. Joseph. Another way to give and save taxes is to donate appreciated stock or real estate. Donat-ing these items to St Joseph could eliminate capital gains tax.
Josephville Wildcats Spring 2019 Baseball/Softball Registra-tion will take place Sun., Jan. 13 after the 7:30am Mass until 9:30am and after the 10am Mass until noon. Open to boys and girls ages 4 and up. Registration forms are available in the back of church. For more information contact John Knobbe at 314-313-2485.
