Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Introducing the Year of Generosity

The year 2017 focuses on the element of generosity in our lives as part of Dynamic Catholic, Alive! In his thoughts of generos-ity, Matthew Kelly mentions that the happiest people he knows are also the most generous people he knows. This is not a coin-cidence. Generosity is not merely a financial plan for distribut-ing our money to help others. It is about how we spend each moment of every day. It is about how we maximize the gifts that God has given us as good stewards and faithful servants. During this year of focusing on generosity, we encourage you to stop and think how you are managing your time, gifts, and finances so that you may serve others. How much time are you spending using technology instead of with family and friends? Are you using your gifts to spread the faith or for personal gains? How are you spending your money? Let us be like Mary, the Mother of God, the lowly handmaid who brought forth Christ, the salvation of the world. May we imitate her generosity in opening herself to become a vessel for the Lord.

“Why do Catholics honor Mary?” Non-Christians sometimes believe that Catholics wor-ship Mary as a goddess who gave birth to our God. We Catho-lics do not worship Mary as we worship, adore, God. We honor her, respect her, love her and seek her intercession, pray-ing, “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners." We do not, ever, equate her with God nor replace God with her. Rather, we honor her, primarily because God honored her by choosing her to become the Mother of Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, when He took on our flesh and be-came Man. We learn the great truth that Mary is the Mother of God from St. Luke’s Gospel, in the message given by the angel to Mary: “You are going to be the mother of a Son and you will call Him Jesus, and He will be called the Son of the Most High." Once she said yes, the Holy Spirit created in her womb the human nature that God the Son would assume. Since moth-erhood is of the person and not of the nature alone, and since Mary is the mother of Jesus, true God and true Man, then she is rightly called the Mother of God.

PAPER RECYCLING - All newspaper, wrapping paper, magazines, shopping catalogs, mail, office and school papers may be placed in the recycling bin located on gravel drive north of the school. ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING - Please put your aluminum cans in tied plastic bags and place them inside the fry shed lo-cated at the end of the gravel drive north of the school. INK & TONER CARTRIDGE RECYCLING - Cartridges from printers (not copiers) may be turned in to the school office or placed in the box located at the front entrance of Church. CLOTHING DROP BOX - Unwanted clothing, linens, and shoes can earn money for our parish. Laundered items in tied plastic bags may be placed in the drop box located on the gravel drive north of the school.
