Prayer of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritu-ally into my heart. I embrace You as if You have al-ready come, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Our parish has received a limited supply of the May issue of Give Us This Day, a monthly

prayer companion that includes the daily Mass readings as well as prayers and reflections for the month. You are invited to pick up a copy from the front entrance of Church.

From Head to Heart The primary goal of stewardship is to transform the lives of both the individual and the parish community. The whole point is to strengthen our relationship with God, live a more Christ-centered life and use our gifts interdependently to build God’s kingdom on earth and ultimately, help each other get to Heaven! Our idea of stewardship needs to move from our head into our heart. Before any of our efforts will bear sustainable and long-term good fruit, we need to internalize this idea of living a grateful and generous life into our hearts. Stewardship is not just a list of activities, rather it is a transformative life-style where we grow in love with God and with each other. It’s all about building relationships. When St. John Paul II canonized St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), he said, “Do not accept anything as the truth if it lacks love. And do not accept anything as love which lacks truth! One without the other becomes a destructive lie.” Archbishop Robert Carlson said, “Some think the truth is the truth, no matter how it’s stated. But some words breathe forth cynicism and sarcasm rather than love; we’ve seen too much of words that incite violence rather than promote peace. Those words are alien to Jesus, even when they’re true, because they don’t breathe forth love.” Is our sharing mechanical because we do it out of obli-gation and it checks off a box to make us look good? Or, do we share out of love, in gratitude for everything God, our Father, has given us? Of all the gifts that God has given us, the gift He wants the most is our heart, not our possessions. Let us pray for the strength and courage that all we do be for the glory of God’s name and to use our gifts out of love for one another.

and Leadership Formation

Stewardship Awareness “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?” Luke 24:32 How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us? Are our prayers always petitions, asking Jesus to do things for us? If so, that’s a one-sided relationship. Living our faith means devel-oping a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time in silence to listen to what Jesus is asking of you.

St. Catherine of Siena - Feast Day April 29 St. Catherine of Siena was born during the outbreak of the plague in Siena, Italy on March 25, 1347. She was the 25th child born to her mother, although half of her brothers and sis-ters did not survive childhood. Catherine herself was a twin, but her sister did not survive infancy. Her mother was 40 when she was born. Her father was a cloth dyer. When Catherine was 21, she had an experience she de-scribed as her "mystical marriage to Christ." Despite Cath-erine's religious nature, she did not choose to enter a convent and instead she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic. She often visited hospitals and homes where the poor and sick were found. Her activities quickly attracted followers who helped her in her mission to serve the poor and sick. Catherine was drawn further into the world as she worked, and eventually she began to travel, calling for reform of the Church and for people to confess and to love God totally. She became involved in politics, and was key in working to keep city states loyal to the Pope. From 1375 onwards, Catherine began dictating letters to scribes. She petitioned for peace and was instrumental in persuading the Pope in Avignon to return to Rome. By 1380, the 33-year-old mystic had become ill, possibly because of her habit of extreme fasting. Her confessor, Bl. Ray-mond of Capua, ordered her to eat, but she replied that she found it difficult to do so. That year her illness accelerated her inability to eat and drink. Within weeks, she was unable to use her legs. She died on April 29, following a stroke just a week prior. St. Catherine is credited with composing over 400 letters, her Dialogue, which is her definitive work, and her prayers. These works are so influential that St. Catherine would later be declared a Doctor of the Church. She is one of the most influen-tial and popular saints in the Church. St. Catherine's feast day is April 29. She is the patroness against fire and illness, of United States, Italy, miscarriages, people ridiculed for their faith, sexual temptation, and nurses.

St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us!
