Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Betrothal of Mary and Joseph

Was Mary really an “unwed mother”? As Matthew makes clear in today’s Gospel, the answer is clearly no - Mary and Joseph were really “betrothed,” she was his wife, and Joseph was really contemplating divorce. Marriage customs were such that the last stage of the marriage was that the betrothed came to-gether to live as husband and wife. The Annunciation - and the Incarnation of Jesus - take place after betrothal but before they lived together. What would you have done if you were Joseph? (Catechism of the Catholic Church 437, 488, 1846)

Christmas Message from

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson We rejoice in our Savior’s birth - remembering the great gift of faith He has given us through the mystery of His incarnation and the saving power of His death and resurrection. Each year, the people of our Archdiocese have been asked to make a special gift on Christmas Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who have responded to Christ’s call to follow Him, are truly a gift to the Church and to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ 2,000 years ago to future generations here in the Arch-diocese of St. Louis. I ask you, once again, to pray for vocations and for all our priests and seminarians. I also ask you to be generous in your donation to the Christmas Day collection, which helps pay the day-to-day expenses and maintenance of our seminary. Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season of Christmas. May the Lord of life come into your hearts and homes in a special way during this holy time of year.

Stewardship Awareness “When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had com-manded him and took his wife into his home.” Matthew 1:24 As we prepare for the birth of our Lord, pray for the strength and cour-age to be a model of discipleship, just as Joseph was. Put your com-plete trust in the Lord without expecting anything in return. Strive to put God first in all things and follow Him wherever He may lead you.

Christmas Poinsettias Each year forty poinsettias are purchased to decorate the Church for Christmas. If you would like to make a donation for a poinsettia in your honor or in memory of a loved one, please send $10 in an envelope along with the name to be rec-ognized and bring it to the parish office by Mon., Dec. 19. The names will be printed in the bulletin the weekend after Christ-mas.

THE GREAT COMMISSION: Share Your Story By Michael Horn, Archdiocesan Evangelization Coordinator

As human beings, we are attracted to stories. We are drawn to them, whether we read them in a book, watch them in a theater, or listen to others narrate them. It is a wonderful thing to know those special people in our lives- family mem-bers, friends, actors- who have a gift for telling a story. They captivate us as they tells tales that are funny, sad, interesting, or inspiring. The story of our Catholic faith is glorious. Salvation history is laden with instances of God showing His unending love and faithfulness to His people. An angel announces to a 14 year old that she will give birth to the Messiah. The Savior chooses twelve ordinary men to accompany Him in His mission of saving mankind. Jesus dies and rises. His apostles preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The story continues today. As Catholics seeking to evangelize others, we must become comfortable sharing our own personal story of faith and the beautiful stories of the Gospels and the lives of the saints.

Christmas Mass Schedule December 24 4:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. December 25 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
