  5. 5. GASHOLDERREVITALIZATION The majority of the workers will be in facto- ries, where it will be much safer. The entire buildings will be powered from turbines and solar panels( gas holders are located in one of the highest point near Alexandra Palace ). The turbines will be located between each of the floors. The solar panels will be located on the roof. The building is constructed around a cen- tral core; each floor is composed of individual pie-like sections that are pre-built and hoisted up the central core. Most parts of the building will be prefabricated as modules in factory what is safe, save time labor and cost. 7. 7. DESIGN OBJECTIVE: TRANSFORM FARADAYS MEMORIAL TO INFORMATION VISITOR CENTRE & EXHIBI- TION AT ELEPHANT & CASTLE ROUNDABOUT POTENTIAL CLIENTS: SOUTHWORK COUNCIL MAINE INVESTORS: TRANSPORT FOR LONDON SOUTHWORK REGENERATION PROGRAME TARGET AUDIENCE: ELEPHANT & CASTLE RESIDENTS TURISTS Southwark Council are leading a 1.5bn, 55 acre Elephant and Castle programme which will create a new exciting destination for London over the next 15 years. Almost 3,000 news homes Up to 2,988 new homes Over 6,000 new jobs 1.5 million investmentin local schools REGENERATING ELEPHANT& CASTLE FARADAYMEMORIAL The stainless steel box-shaped structure was designed by Brutalist architect Rodney Gordon in 1959 and built in 1961 on the centre of the northern roundabout of the Elephant and Castle gyratory system. It commemo- rates Michael Faraday's importance as a scientist and was placed in Elephant and Castle because Faraday's birthplace is nearby in Newington Butts. The interior of the construction contains a London Underground electrical substation for the Northern Line and Bakerloo Line. In 1996 the monument was given Grade II listed building status EARLY STUDY EXTRUDING VERTICALLY EXTRUDING HORIZONTALLY SPACE EXTENDED VERTI- CALLY. 8. 8. THE DESIGN WAS BORN OUT OF NEED TO CONTROL THE GROWING TRAFFIC AND HIGH LEVEL OF CYCLIST ACCIDENTS IN ELEPHANT & CASTLE CYCLIST ROUNDABOUT AT ELEPHANT AND CASTLE 7 M -HIGH 72 DIAMETERS FARADAY MEMORIAL SOURANDING AREA My proposal is to design raise roundabout for cyclist and walking. With this design, a significantly higher degree of safety is achieved in exchange for perhaps a very slight de- crease in convenience. This saves time because it's possible to take a short-cut across the ground round abound reduces exposure to risk BACK ELEVATION FRONT ELEVATION PLAN ELEPHANT & CASTLE ROUNDABOUT DESIGN PROPOSAL FARADAYMEMORIAL FARADAYMEMORIAL
