The Disappearance of Alice Creed(2009)

Bio of the film: A rich man's daughter is held captive in an abandoned apartment by two former convicts who abducted her and hold her ransom in exchange for her father's money. The main factors when researching the film were the budget, which showed if it was an expensive film to make or inexpensive which allowed us to relate back to ours. As well as the type of institutions incorporated with the film.

Institution Info:CinemaNX was a production company, however now is merged into Isle of Man Film therefore when conducting research I did it on Isle of Man film. IOFMF regional screen agency, part of Isle of Man Government’s Department of Economic Development. They have co-financed and co-produced over 100 feature films e.g. Miss Potter and television drama and are one of the busiest institutions in the British Isles. They ‘offer a package of services for film producers and production companies. Equity investment via our partner Pinewood Pictures, a wealth of natural locations, a talented crew base, experienced facilities and services companies come together with a film-friendly Government.’

Dead Man’s Shoes(2004)

Bio of the film: A dissatisfied soldier returns to his hometown to get even with the thugs who brutalized his mentally-challenged brother years ago.

Institution Info:The institution ‘Warp Films’ is very unique and different in comparison to many other companies in this field. They have been placed as ‘one of the most exciting and respected UK production companies.’ This is because they aren’t afraid to take risks and are working towards becoming the best with the launch of prestige shows on Channel 4, Sky Atlantic and Canal +. Their current genre consists of sci-fi, emotional drama, thrillers, literary adaptations, historical mysteries and many more.

TriangleBio of the film: The story revolves around the passengers of a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean who, when struck by mysterious weather conditions, jump to another ship only to experience greater havoc on the open seas.

Institution info:Icon Entertainment International founded in 1999 is one of the UK’s leading independent film distributors. They have a library of over 200 titles ranging from mainstream hits such as Paranormal Activity, 30 Days of Night, Transporter 3 and What Woman Want and many more. Similar to Isle of Man Film, both companies have produced/distributed films that became successful so therefore they are more of an aware company. This is in comparison to Warp Film although they have a different approach to the type of films they are incorporated with.

Distribution and Exhibition The Disappearance of Alice Creed: The film was distributed by West End Films but was also apart of BFI’s funding for New Models and they used the technique of digital innovation to attract the audience. The film was screened at the 2009 London Film Festival, the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival in 2010. After a well publicised Facebook campaign to choose a Cinema to host the World Premiere of the film, Southampton University Student's Union won the event, which took place on 20 April 2010. As for home media, the film was released on DVD in the UK on 4 October 2010.Dead Man’s Shoes: The film was distributed by Optimum Releasing and was released in the UK on 1 October 2004. There wasn’t a lot of information on how the film was released except for on 17 November 2012, as part of Warp Films 10-year anniversary celebrations, Dead Man's Shoes was re-scored live at the Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham by musicians Gavin Clark, Joel Cadbury, Jah Wobble and more.Triangle: The film was distributed by Icon Home Entertainment and then the institution distributed the film on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on 1 March 2010, whilst First Look Studios distributed the title on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 2 February 2010. Millennium FilmsWe chose the institution Millennium Films as although our film inspiration ‘P2’ was produced and distributed by eOne (Entertainment One), which we did research on but we didn’t think it suited our genre as well as it could of. Millennium Films was founded by Avi Lerner who now has more than 350 films to his credit, he is one of the most experienced and successful independent producers of our time. The institution had created other genre of films which we didn’t think associated enough, therefore we found Millennium Films when researching other companies. We thought this fit our genre and opening well as many of the films they are incorporated are thriller, mystery, sci-fi, action or horror. Although being founded in the U.S, they still produce British films for example a newly released film ‘London Has Fallen’, ‘Before I Go to Sleep’ and more. ‘London Has Fallen’ has been the most recent film for the company and was only released on the 3 rd of March, the film is thriller related as well as crime therefore showing they still produce relevant films related to our opening.
