WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO IDENTIFY AND CHOOSE THE CORRECT INSTITUTION TO CREATE AND DISTRIBUTE A FILM?

• It is very useful to research different institution as they may have other genre’s inputted to their work and it is important to analyze and compare the films distributed by certain institutions, and then consider which would be the most suitable to distribute our thriller. Moreover, it is also significant that the distributor thinks about which films will suit within its content.

• In terms of the audience, they would initially have expectations of different types of institutions that they may be aware of. The audience may have watched a film in the past, by a certain institution that they thought they were safe watching. Ultimately, this will impact the other films that the institution will make as this will build trust towards the audience as they have had past experiences within the movies they had produced.

• The industry reputation of a particular institution would need to impress and satisfy the audience and they would continue to build their interest with the new movies they distribute to the fact that they have released movies in the past that the audience felt engaged with and satisfied. Therefore it is key that the films are distributed with the correct institution so that the audience feels comfortable when watching their films and would build their trust in watching another movie of theirs.

WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR THRILLER AND WHY?

• After doing my research and looking into various different types of distributions, myself and my group has come up to choose the ‘Dimension Films' to distribute our own thriller project which is named ‘The Unseen’ . They are an American company that were originally owned by ‘The Walt Disney Studio’ and are now officially owned by ‘The Weinstein Company’. Additionally, the reason as to why we chose this specific one is that it relates to our movie and meets the target audience in terms of the movies they produce such as Sin City, it contained themes such as mystery and thriller.

• Once I looked into ‘Dimension Films’, it states that they usually produce movies that are rated 15 age rated or over, which is ideal for my thriller film as the age rating is 15. Furthermore they mostly produce thriller-sub genre movies which is similar to my groups thriller, The Unseen, is part of this thriller sub-genre.

• Dimension Films were the distributors for the movie named ‘Scream’ and this contained elements such as mystery which are used in our thriller film as well as horror. Alternatively, another reason as to why ‘Dimension Films’ is the most reliable institution to distribute my product is because of Scream’s success, it had received excellent feedback and a high viewership therefore if this institution would be able to maintain the popularity from the viewers and combine this with my product due to Screams success.

COMPARE YOUR THRILLER TO EXISTING THRILLERS MADE BY THIS INSTITUTION

• To begin with, Halloween is a well known Horror/Thriller which was distributed by Dimension Films. To compare, ‘Halloween’ was set during ‘Halloween’ itself and ‘The Unseen’ is set during the same time. Furthermore within our thriller film, we placed pumpkins at the entrance of our victims home in our thriller movie to convey that it was ‘Halloween’.

• On the other hand, there was also Scream that was our major comparison towards my thriller opening as they both had a wide range of similarities. Scream itself, includes horror/thriller. The Unseen had an essence of mystery to it as the antagonist was not visually seen in detail and had his identify hidden by the use of mask. This also relates to the thriller Scream as the antagonist wears a mask that hides the males identity. Furthermore the similarities between ‘The Unseen’

WHAT BENEFITS WILL CHOOSING THIS INSTITUTION HAVE ON YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

• Now that I have chosen the ‘Dimension Films‘ as the institution for my thriller movie, the popularity of my project would have an increase in views as this intuition is well known and the audience would continue to watch movies that contain their distributors as they may have previously watched their films be and were satisfied.

• Not only will this increase viewership, but this will also improve its given reputation due to the fact that Dimension Films has produced movies that had outstanding outcomes such as ‘Halloween’, ‘Sin City’ and ‘Scream’. As a result, this would have a huge impact towards my thriller due to the fact that its viewership will be raised as its past success has lifted this institutions popularity. Another benefit for this would be that my thriller movie would have a large amount of people watching this internationally as well as nationally due to the fact that Dimension Films has a relatively impressive reputation within thriller movies.

• Moreover, I will also be able to receive feedback from our own media product such as the advantages and disadvantages therefore myself and the group could look back on this and see if any improvements could be made as well as how we could improve it. Ultimately, this should forget audience as they would need to personally like the film so that this can be put towards its revenue and increase the popularity.
