QUESTION 3:

What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

Firstly I believe social networking sites such as Facebook, Bebo, Twitter and My space have the

prospective of distributing and help promote ‘Ultimate’ This doesn’t have to be done by

another company its done at your own control so I have the authority to publish what I want the

reader to see in order to create publicity and get it more well known.

Secondly official well known media distributing firms such as IPC would be a great place for my magazine to be dispensed. I have done some research behind this

media industry to find that they actually currently don’t publish and R&B or hip-hop magazines they do a ranger of other portfolios such as NME, Nuts, What’s on TV,

Look, Now, Woman and home and much more.. This is great opportunity for a magazine like Ultimate to be also part of the collection as there is a gap in there

portfolio, meaning less competition between similar magazines allowing Ultimate to be able to get more publicity and be recognised. It also it offers something new to the

actual business giving them an additional portfolio and potentially bringing in more varied customers in your social group. Also by using this method your customer base

has already been created, IPC has a website collectively which reaches over 20 million users every month. This is an advantage over other distribution methods e.g social networking. My magazine has a very female dominated theme which is ideal

for IPC as their Media is the UK’s leading consumer publisher for mass market women. They also deal with all the promotional side such as subscription

http://www.ipcmedia.com/subscribe/ However using such a huge distributing firm is a costly method also very time

consuming which might not even pay of as the customer base is only created because or the original portfolios and Ultimate being such a different genre might be

hard to find people who find this type of topic interesting. Not only this but the business does not specialise in this category nor any other genre anywhere near

R&B so there lack in knowledge could jeopardise the magazine.

Gigs & Festivals

Other options could be gigs and music festivals, could possibly do deals with record producers and negotiate with them. E.g if you was to have one whole page dedicated to that particular artist would they use there gigs and tours as a place of distribution or even to create

a better reputation on behalf of the Ultimate.

Finally.. Lastly shops and new agents would be a great place to use as a local

distributer its very accessible and direct to customers also stores like HMV would be an ideal place as its deeply related to the content of

the magazine.
