Addressing a largely attended NMC activists' rally at Gandhi Nagar, its president, Subhash Shastri, said there is no justifica- tion on the part of the State Government for withholding pending installment of DA to its employees and pensioners, as the same has already been released by the Centre as well as many State Governments during model code of conduct, which is now over and so there should be no hitch on part of J&K Government in releasing the DA arrears as it is a part of the salary and pension. Shastri also pressed the Government to release 4th install- ment of 6th Pay Commission arrears, alleging that the funds for the same has already been ear- marked in the current State Budget of the State. The other demands highlight- ed by Shastri include enhancement of medical allowance to Rs 1000 per month, early amendment in SRO 64, removal of all pay anom- alies in SRO 93 particularly cleri- cal staff, regularization of services of all daily wagers working in var- ious departments of State Government, issuance of regular- ization orders of 180 daily wagers working in RDD, merger of 50% DA into basic pay and pension and enhancement of wages of daily wagers to Rs 10, 000 per month. Army refutes girl having died of left over explosive Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, May 20: Army today claimed that the girl who was killed in Drang area of Budgam district did not die of the explosion left over by the Army after carrying out firing drills in Tosamaidan artillery firing range. An Army spokesman said that media has blamed Army for leav- ing the shell unexploded after car- rying out firing drills. "It has been brought out that a 12 yrs old girl, Simran Riyaz died on the spot while her brother Fayaz Ahmed Parray lost both his legs when they walked over a lit- tered shell," the spokesman said. He said the location of inci- dent was a house instead of nal- lahs and the explosion cannot be related to an artillery shell because explosion of even a smaller caliber artillery shell would have caused the room or the house to collapse or get dam- aged. "There was only a small crater of few inches. Artillery shell could not have drifted from the impact area and come to Lassipora as there is no nallah connecting impact area and the village. In fact the intervening features are such that no amount of rain could cause this. Also as per the reports, the explosion took place in a field. However, the explosion has taken place within the house of Manzoor Parray," the spokesman claimed. He said notwithstanding the reason of the incident, the Army on request of the family and on humanitarian grounds took on the treatment of the child and admit- ted him at the Badami Bagh Base Hospital.
