GANDHINAGAR, May 22:

BJP today said invitation toPakistan Prime Minister NawazSharif for swearing-in ceremonyof PM-designate Narendra Modiwas a step towards forging goodrelations with neighbouringcountries.

"It is in the interest of ournation to have good relationswith neighbouring countries.That is why he (Sharif) has alsobeen given invitation (for swear-ing-in ceremony). No one shouldhave any problem with that,"senior BJP leader VenkaiahNaidu said while interacting withthe media here.

Naidu was among a host ofsenior BJP leaders, includingparty chief Rajnath Singh, whowere in the state capital to attendoath taking ceremony of newly-elected Gujarat Chief MinisterAnandi Patel.

For the first time, SAARCHeads of State and Government,including Sharif, Sri LankaPresident Mahinda Rajapaksaand Bangladesh Premier SheikhHasina have been invited toModi's swearing-in on May 26.

Asked about the controversyover the decision to invite Sharif,Singh declined to comment. "Idon't want to say anything on thatmatter. I just want to say that he(Sharif) has been invited."

Meanwhile, Naidu took a digat Aam Aadmi Party chief ArvindKejriwal, who refused to furnishbail bond in a criminal defama-tion case filed by BJP leaderNitin Gadkari and chose to go tojail.

"He is not in picture now.Kejriwal has now become"Crazywal". He is just doingdrama and no one takes himseriously now," Naiduremarked. (PTI)
