"The ongoing tightening of non-performing loans (NPL) recognition norms mean that the minimum standards for NBFCs will match those of banks, a cred- it positive," Moody's Vice President and Senior Credit Officer Srikanth Vadlamani said. Moody's Investors Service expects that non-banking finan- cial companies (NBFCs) will see their asset quality stabilise over the next 12 months, although the reported NPL ratio may increase due to changing recognition norms. It said the new NPL recogni- tion norms, which bring the defi- nition of NPLs in-line with the definition used by banks, will likely push up reported NPLs by 80-100 basis points over the next 12 months, it said. 100 basis points is one per cent. "However, this change in norms will mean declining prof- itability for many NFBCs. The additional credit provisions need- ed to meet the tighter NPL norms will dent their return on assets by 20-30 basis points," Moody's said. (PTI) NBFC asset quality to stabilise over next 12 months: Moody's NEW DELHI, Oct 9: Income Tax Department has slapped fresh tax notice on Nokia India, tax authorities said today. The Finnish telecom firm, however, wants the fresh demand to be included in the ongoing negotiations between India and Finland to resolve the Rs 2,000- crore tax dispute. "Fresh tax demands notice has been served to Nokia India for dis- pute relating to other assessment years, apart from the one being contested currently in ITAT," a senior Finance Ministry official said. The official, however, did not reveal the demand raised or the action that the Income Tax Department has proposed. NEW DELHI, Oct 9:
The asset quality of non-banking financial companies inIndia will stabilise over the next12 months, but profitability couldtake a hit on account of higherprovisioning requirement,Moody's Investors Service saidtoday.
"The ongoing tightening ofnon-performing loans (NPL)recognition norms mean that theminimum standards for NBFCswill match those of banks, a cred-it positive," Moody's VicePresident and Senior CreditOfficer Srikanth Vadlamani said.
Moody's Investors Serviceexpects that non-banking finan-cial companies (NBFCs) will see
their asset quality stabilise overthe next 12 months, although thereported NPL ratio may increasedue to changing recognitionnorms.
It said the new NPL recogni-tion norms, which bring the defi-nition of NPLs in-line with thedefinition used by banks, willlikely push up reported NPLs by80-100 basis points over the next12 months, it said. 100 basispoints is one per cent.
"However, this change innorms will mean declining prof-itability for many NFBCs. Theadditional credit provisions need-ed to meet the tighter NPL normswill dent their return on assets by20-30 basis points," Moody'ssaid. (PTI)

Income Tax Department hasslapped fresh tax notice on NokiaIndia, tax authorities said today.
The Finnish telecom firm,however, wants the fresh demandto be included in the ongoingnegotiations between India andFinland to resolve the Rs 2,000-crore tax dispute.
"Fresh tax demands notice hasbeen served to Nokia India for dis-pute relating to other assessmentyears, apart from the one beingcontested currently in ITAT," asenior Finance Ministry officialsaid. The official, however, did notreveal the demand raised or theaction that the Income TaxDepartment has proposed.
The department had in 2013slapped a tax notice of Rs 2,000crore on Nokia's Indian subsidiaryfor violating the withholding taxnorms since 2006 while makingroyalty payments to the parentcompany in Finland.(PTI)
