Registered unrecognisedpolitical parties and those wholost their recognition more thansix years ago will now get a com-mon symbol for their candidates ifthey contest more than 10 per centof the total seats.
The Election Commission hasallowed all such political partiesto apply for the same six monthsahead of elections instead of justbefore the elections.
The concession to a particularparty for a common symbol will,however, be available only as aone-time facility and a party,which has availed of the facility,will not eligible for a concessionin any subsequent election.
The concessions to candidatesput up by such parties comes in thewake of repeated requests from
parties which could not contest ona common symbol in the State orin parliamentary poll.(PTI)
