    The LaborG o v e r n m e n t sPNG vote bait is asimplistic policy to

appeal to the redneck votersof Australia that are drip fedpolitical propaganda thatasylum seekers are a nationalproblem and are threateningour way of life. This is a merepolitical diversion from boththe Labor and Liberal partiesto take our attention awayfrom the fact that our countryis in deep trouble with health, unemployment, education, economic and poverty issues. If the Government was reallyserious about stopping the

people smuggling trade, whydoes it not catch these tradersfrom Indonesia? If thousandsof asylum seekers know howto nd passage on a boat, whycant our Government?

We are signatories tointernational conventionsrelating to fundamental humanrights which require thesettlement a certain numberof refugees in Australia everyyear. The current PNG policymakes Australia a joke on theworld stage and we should beashamed. Kevin Rudd saysALL boats will be sent to PNG.This is a policy that will cost us$1 billion dollars and womenand children will not be sentto PNG. PNG is a very poorcountry with its own poverty, crime and economic issues.

Why are we burdening thepeople of PNG in order for theLabor party to be politicallypopular amongst rednecks?

The issue of asylum seekerstreated poorly is rampant. They are either declaredgenuine refugees and havebeen left to rot in Villawood, lost in red tape, or they aredenied procedural fairnesswith not being afforded legalrepresentation in applicationand appeal process. Why dowe treat those eeing frompersecution as dangerouscriminals. One asylum seekerlikened waiting in Villawood tobeing on death row. One doesnot know when their time hascome to be ordered to Manusor PNG or to be returnedback to their country to faceimprisonment, torture or evendeath. The refugees want tobe accorded their basic humanright to work, enjoy their

family, and freedom to voteand to live without fear.Being caged and separatedfrom their family causes manyto succumb to mental illness, depression, self harm, andanxiety. Inside Villawood theyare encouraged to participatein activities such as Zumbadancing and painting plasteranimals for $2. This is aninsult to their humanity.Asylum seekers are thepolitical sacricial lambsin this election. TheGovernment has demonstratedwastefulness and complacencyin the serious issue of crimeon a national level. Drive-byshootings and gang relatedcrime is thriving due to relaxed

boarder controls facilitatingthe entry of illegal weaponsand drugs to our shores,.Illegal weapons entering ourshores threaten our way oflife, asylum seekers enteringour shores dont. Much ofour infrastructure was builtby migrant workers and weshould welcome all those whowill help our economy prosper,it is our moral obligation todo the right thing. It maybe politically fashionable topersecute asylum seekers, butit is morally reprehensible.Zali Burrows is the PalmerUnited Party candidate for theSydney seat of Blaxland

Palmer United Party candidate Zali Burrows says:

Assylum seekers are thepolitical sacrificial lambs.

The willingness of manyEgyptians, including therecently-formed, butincreasingly powerful

    Tamerrud (rebellion) young leaders

to accept the overthrow (anddisappearance) of elected PresidentMohamed Morsi (Australiannewspapers spell it Mursi; there isno accepted transliteration systemfor Arabic) is very worrying. It is not so simple as that, of course.Morsi himself was increasinglyundemocratic. While talkingreconciliation, he awarded himselfthe power to pass executivedecisions without review, andto overrule the courts. Thesedecisions, which led to widespreadsupportive demonstrations (becauseof suspicion of corruption in thecourts themselves) in front of thelaw courts buildings, should haveled to his legal impeachment andremoval from power. Indeed, the Constitutional Court met withother judges in November 2012 toconsider just this action. However

the constitution of Egypt wassuspended when President Mubarakwas overthrown. And the court, also, made a mistake. They calledfor demonstrations to support theiractions. The United States categoricallyrejects the false claims propagatedby some in Egypt that we areworking with specic politicalparties or movements to dictate howEgypts political transition shouldproceed* - Barack Obama. This is a lie, of course, or close to alie. Its true insofar as the UnitedStates government may not havea particular outcome in mind, andcannot dictate one. But they aretalking to everybody they can, as infact they must, and nobody majoris going to do anything withouttheir tacit consent. The basis ofthe problem in Egypt is the powerof the military. After (Colonel)

Gamal Abdel Nasser overthrew themonarchy of King Farouk in 1952,he was faced with the problem ofwhat to do with all of these gun-toting types. Not having any Holy

Grail to send them in search of, andthe Ark of the Covenant being safeas everybody knows in Ethiopia,he gave them businesses instead. These businesses now account for40% of the Egyptian economy andworkforce, and the United Statesobviously worries about the 1.3billion of military hardware it givesthe military each year. The Arab Spring has turned outto be a very mixed bundle- as onemight expect. In some cases, it isproducing nations that are hobblingtowards some kind of genuinedemocratic system - corrupt, unrepresentative, but a lot betterthan the dictatorships they replaced. But in countries that already hada democratic system, such asEgypt, protests can also includemany people who dont believe indemocracy at all. Recently protests

have included guns and shooting. One place guns can come from isthe army; but terrorist groups arealso buying arms. The trade inrefugee organs by Bedouin peoplesmugglers is providing at least $100million a year, much of which isgoing on arms and going to groupsthat will destabilise governments, particularly Hamas.Protests are not always bad.The riots in England followingthe French revolution, that ledto the ight of the King and hisministers from London, eventuallyresulted in the Electoral reformAct of 1832, an important step inestablishing democracy. Withoutthe suffragettes, women wouldnot have got the vote either. Butthese were all to widen democracyin a state that did not have it. Ina democratic state, there is a tacitagreement between everybody as

to how far everyone can go. Forcesthat go beyond this - even to theextent that Pauline Hansen did - areseen as destabilising and dangerous.

It is interesting to note that

within British history there werewidespread protests against theestablishment of a standing armyand even a police force, as these wereboth seen by the public as possibleinstruments for the suppressionof the populace. The overthrow ofelections by the military in Burmaand Fiji were the start of longperiods of suppressive laws andmilitary governments. And its hardto know how to proceed when alarge part of the populace does notbelieve in democracy and there is agood percentage working actively toundermine it.History shows us that thesesituations seldom resolve fortwenty-forty years. That is how longit takes for the economy to fall intodisarray, for the populace to realisethat accepting different views is theprice of getting rid of violence, and

for a second generation of militaryofcers to take power and realisethat the country is falling into a pit.In the meantime, there is not muchthat can be done. Egypt is on a knifeedge. The international communityshould be leaning on the militaryto make sure that democracy ismaintained. They should totallycondemn all undemocratic actions,by whomever taken. They shouldact to cut off the major source ofincome for the destabilising forces, which comes from drug and organsmuggling. But if things go badly,it may take many years for solutionsto emerge. The West may bearthe burden of that for a long time.President Obama should make surehe knows what his representativesare doing. * Melbourne Age, 8 July2013.

    Salaams and Greetings All,

Just a special mention about our dear

Legal Editor of Al Wasat, Br Hyder Gulam whomade the Top 10 List of Muslims who save lives- see here like at Hufngton Post below. Onbehalf of the staff and management of Al Wasat,we would like to congratulate Br Hyder for histireless efforts in serving our Ummah: http://www.hufngtonpost.com/engy-abdelkader/top-ten-list_b_3701579.html.

    Top 10 List:

    Muslims Who Save Lives

Salaams All,Most readers would be well aware that on 26 April 2010, thethen Rudd Government announced the Board of Taxation (Board)would be undertaking a comprehensive review of Australias tax

laws to ensure that, wherever possible, they do not inhibit the expansion ofIslamic nance, banking and insurance products. In late October 2010, theBoard announced the release of a discussion paper on the Boards review ofthe taxation treatment of Islamic nance, banking and insurance products. The Board was asked to: Identify impediments in current Australian tax laws (at the Commonwealth,State and Territory level) to the development and provision of Islamicnancial products in Australia; Examine the tax policy response to the development of Islamic nancialproducts in other jurisdictions (including the United Kingdom, France, SouthKorea and relevant Asian jurisdictions); and Make recommendations (for Commonwealth tax laws) and ndings (forState and Territory tax laws) that will ensure, wherever possible, thatIslamic nancial products have parity of tax treatment with conventionalproducts. With the demise of Kevin Rudd as the Prime Minister, there was a distinctlack of interest by the former Government. However, with the return ofPrime Minister Rudd and Chris Bowen to the helms of Government, thereis renewed hope that this project will release the nal paper, which wassubmitted to Government nearly 3 years ago. As a refresher for readers, theprinciples underlying Islamic Banking & Finance as derived from the Shariahare: Prohibition of paying and receiving interest: Interest must not be chargedor paid on any nancial transaction. Prohibition of uncertainty or speculation: Uncertainty in contractualterms and conditions is forbidden. However, risk taking is allowed when allthe terms and conditions are clear and known to all parties. Prohibition of nancing certain economic sectors: Financing of industriesdeemed unlawful by Shariah such as weapons, pork and gambling isforbidden. Principle of prot and loss sharing: Parties to a nancial transaction mustshare in risks and rewards attached to it. Principle of asset backing: Each nancial transaction must refer totangible, identiable underlying asset. The Board looked at the tax treatment of Islamic nance products based ontheir economic substance rather than their form. Where an Islamic nanceproduct is economically equivalent to a conventional nance product, thetax treatment of the two products should be the same.I have no doubts that any moves to ensure a level playing eld for Islamicbanking and Takaful product would conclude that amendments to Australiantax law are required. The key question is whether any adjustments can bemade to existing tax frameworks rather than the development of specicprovisions directed solely at Islamic nance products. The later would nodoubt have the Islamophobes up in arms based on their myopic ignorance, and lack of foresight about Australias national interest, especially in theseeconomically uncertain times with jobs lay offs.

The camouaged couphad to engineer thenumbers to make itlook like General Sisi

was really responding to the willof the people. Tony Blair whoseprecise information over WMDsin Iraq is no secret told us thatthere were 17 million Egyptianson the streets. Then, he whomust be believed, the US StateDepartment told us there were22 million. Then, the DemocracyIndex informed us that there were30 million. The nal bid went toMona Makram Ebeed who tolda US audience that there weremore than 30 million protestingagainst Morsi. The population of Egypt is about90 Million. If you take awaythe Morsi staunch supporters(about 11 millions based on the

constitutional referendum), thechildren, elderly and the non-politicised, you can quickly seethe comical side of the numbersclaimed. Off course Aljazeeracame to the rescue again andbrought an estimation expertwho told us that no more than1.5 million can possibly exist inTahreer square. The pre-plotted coup camouagedas a civilian president and vicepresident (Mr Elbaradei whosehands has Iraqi blood). The coupdid not forget religious legitimacy

by getting endorsements from thehead of Alazhar (SheIK AhmedEl Tayeb and the head of theEgyptian Church. It is no secretthat Sh Eltayeb was appointed

by Mubarak in Al-Azhar and wasin the policy making committeeof his party. All political dealsare made with Gen Sisi notthe president. The Egyptianwell known intelligent humourdecided to call the coup president Tartour meaning a puppet butliterally means a clowns hat.Minutes after the coup Islamicchannels were shut - some whileon air. To date, 1800 have beendetained including leaders of theMuslim Brotherhood, Al WasatParty and anyone else who dared

to speak against the coup. Fewdays later we had the massacreof the prostrators (83 dead) andfew days ago we had the secondmassacre (200 dead and 4500injured in 3 hours). I have achildhood friend who was shotin his lungs in the rst massacre. The bullet missed his heart by acentimetre and he tells me thestory how the shooting startedin the last prostration of theirmorning prayers. It is possible to argue about theefcacy of Morsi as a presidentand possibly the efcacy of theFreedom and Justice Party asa majority party; but what isundisputed is that what happenedin Egypt was a coup and it wasintended to carve Islamist frompower and thwart their projectfrom existence.

From day one as president, Morsi, his wife and children was on thereceiving end of the most lthymedia regurgitation. Media hurledabuses at him and his wife who isdressed in a traditional Islamicdress. Islamophobia showed itsugly face in Egypt. Police forceand constitutional courts stoodagainst him. Electricity and fuelwas intentionally stopped andsold in black markets to topple thegovernment. Morsi put his handinto the wasp nest of corruptionand those who benetted came

out to defend their privileges. The biggest disappointmentfor me is how some Secularistsand socialists were able to stepon their basic human valuesin precedence of not seeing anIslamist succeed in runningEgypt.Millions are again on the streetsdetermined to have Morsi back inpower. And while some Islamistleaders are willing to compromiseto reach a diplomatic settlement, the street is absolutely notwilling to move one inch on theirdemands of going back to pre 3rdof July date. Those on the streetshave taught the world a lesson inperseverance and patience. The people in the streets inEgypt realise the regionalimplications of a retardationof Egypts freedom of choice.

They realise the implications onTunisia, Turkey, Libya, Syria andPalestine. They remember themilitary coups in Turkey (1980)and Algeria (1991) against ademocratically elected Islamicgovernment. They rememberwhat happened in Gaza and theyare determined to defend theirchoice till the last drop of theirblood.

To win the votes of the African-Australiancommunities on 7 September 2013 federal election; thefollowing issues are important.Whichever party wins the forthcoming electoral contest;there are ten main things that the African-Australiancommunities are looking for.1) The leaders of the African-Australian communities toparticipate and advise on policy issues regarding theircommunities at all levels of government. The African-Australian communities still suffer fromtop-down plans imposed without consultation, producingunrealistic, unworkable schemes. The communitiesand their leaders stand ready to provide the advice andsupport that comes from their close involvement with thegrassroots. This is the only way to produce practicable, effective planning.2) EmploymentThe greatest problem within the emerging communitiesis the high levels of unemployment, which comes frombarriers to employment such as inappropriate training, misunderstanding, and implicit racism. Withoutemployment, there is the risk of the creation of apermanent underclass. These are the most importantprograms to design and support for new settlers inAustralia Employment equals settlement.3) Youth issuesThe young people in new and emerging communitiesface, as they have always faced, the risks of exposure todrugs, vandalism, and exploitation by those who woulddrive them to lives of crime. This can only be combatedby Youth Services that concentrate on building strongfamily values and community networks.

4)Support rather than punitive approaches to disaffectionThe communities are alert to, and greatly fear, thattheir young people could be led by demoralisation anddissatisfaction into involvement with extremism andterrorism. To combat this requires support, not continualsurveillance and the creation of fear, which will pushyoung people towards radicalisation.5) Refugee and Asylum seekers SupportThe communities are looking for humane answers torefugee and asylum seekers questions. Our families, loved ones, close friends are living in often desperateand life-threatening conditions overseas. This affects ourability to work in freedom and happiness and contributetowards our loved new home. We need to maintainand expand the family reunion program, and for thegovernment to nd some workable, humane solution forrefugees and asylum seekers arrivals.6) Support for sporting and arts programsThe main ways for our young people to develop moraleand hope, are through sporting programs. Over thecenturies, sport has shown itself as a away to integrateyoung people and to teach them their value, and the valueof co-operation and discipline. Support for our young

actors, musicians and other arts people also helps usnd a voice, to dene ourselves, and promote positiveperspectives.7) Employment in Australian defence force, Federalpolice and other government servicesMoves towards developing employment programs for ourpeople to enter defence force, AFP, public servants andgovernment ofcials advisory body have been movingvery slowly. Wed like to see a denite commitmenttowards intakes from our communities.8) Encouragement of openness within NGOsWe would like to see standards put in place withinfunding requirements that encourage NGOs also to followthese points - getting advice, consult, working withcommunity leaders, participation and employment, witha concentration on the programs outlined here.9) Development of public transport infrastructureIt is pointless to provide jobs unless there is some meansof getting to them. It would be good to see some small, exible transport solutions, such as more light rail andtrams, and the expansion of private minibus services, toenable access to work outside daylight hours.10) Recognition of the value of the community in building

relations with AfricaAustralia has $50 billion invested in Africa. The membersof African communities here speak the languages, knowthe cultures, and have many contacts, including manywith inuential people and leaders. This is a goldmine ofexpertise for Australia.Dr. Berhan Ahmed,Chairperson, African Think TankE:[email protected]

    The Muslim Legal Network

(MLN) was recently contactedby a client who requiredurgent assistance for an

intervention order hearing that was xedfor a rapidly approaching date in April. The client worked on a casual basis anddid not have a permanent job. As a result,he could not afford to engage a lawyer toassist. The MLNs Legal Referral Servicefunctions as an avenue of support forclients who are disadvantaged. The clients ex-wife (applicant) appliedfor an intervention order against theclient after two years of no contact. Theclient claimed that his ex-wife ed withtheir children and another individualwho she later married. In her afdavit, the applicant claimed that the clientstole her money, abused, raped andassaulted her on several occasions, all ofwhich the client denied. The claims madeagainst the client could have had seriousramications on his life if accepted by

the court.Abdul Rahman Mohamed Saleh, a lecturerat Victoria Law School who also assiststhe MLN, took the initiative to supportthe client by preparing an afdavit. It was hoped that it would assist ingetting the other party to withdraw theapplication but the applicant persistedon pursuing legal action.

As a result of the applicants decision

to continue with legal action, the clientrequired a lawyer to represent him. Theprincipal solicitor at Amicus Lawyers,a senior member of the Muslim LegalNetwork, volunteered to act on behalfof the client. He assisted on a pro bonobasis due to the clients disadvantagedsituation. After lengthy negotiationswith the applicants barrister, theIntervention Order application againstthe client was withdrawn. The principalsolicitor notes that the client wasecstatic with the support he receivedand with the outcome of the case. All members of the MLN worked togetherto achieve the best possible result for theclient in a very short period of time. A Most Informative ElectionJust as it allseemed lost for the

    Australian LaborParty, the return of

Kevin Rudd as Prime Ministerhas given the party a new leaseof life making it competitive inopinion polls. The nexus of the holy monthof Ramadan to this yearsfederal election has presentedtremendous opportunities forpoliticians as they not onlyattended one Iftar (nightlybreaking of the fast dinner)after another (sometimes twoIftars in the same evening), butsome, like those in the SouthWest of Sydney, held their ownIftar. Prime Minister Ruddeven made a surprise visit toone such Iftar in the Sydneysuburb of punchbowl, he gavea Salam greeting to Muslimswho in return gave him a rock

star reception. Not to be outdone, a fewdays later, the leader ofthe Opposition Tony Abbottshowed up to an Iftar in theSydney suburb of Lidcombewhere he also received a rockstar reception and cheers to hispromises to support a multi-faith Australian society. As if to lock in some muchneeded support from theMuslim community, ForeignMinister Carr asserted hissympathies for the Palestinianpeople on the day of Eid tothe consternation of Israelapologists who were veryquick to express their concern.I dont know where thecoalition stands on this issuetoday, but in earlier weeks, they had threatened academic

institutions with withdrawalof all funding if they supportthe BDS movement. To be fairto the coalition, Tony Abbots22 July 2013 speech to theAustralia-Israel Chamberof Commerce has ten fewerreferences to Israel than hisspeech in July 2010. This isnot to say that his support haswaned, it merely says that he iswatching his words in the hopeof reclaiming some supportfrom the Australian Palestiniancommunity after his foreignAffairs spokeswoman declaredthe coalitions unquestioningsupport for Israel. The Labor government wenteven further pledging tenmillion dollars to the Lebanese

Muslim Association for theconstruction of an 80 to 100bed nursing home. To try andinuence support away from

Lebanese Christian Liberalcandidate for Blaxland andHonorary Consul Generalof Bangladesh Mr. AnthonyKhoury the Labor governmentpledged ve million dollarsto Christian Lebanese SaintCharbel to build an 80 bednursing facility and anotherve million to the MaroniteEparchy of Australia fornursing care facilities.Political spin aside, would thishappen if the election wasnot looming - and so near thefestival of Eid? Although weMuslims are supposed to lookafter our parents in their oldage the same way they lookedafter us when we were little, there does exist a need fornursing facilities and Muslimcommunity organisations havebeen lobbying for nursing caresupport for nearly 20 years.Did we as a nation have to saveup this money or was it madeavailable now because Laborcares?Of course there is more on theALP palate; ALP Secretary ofIranian Muslim origin SamDastyari is being slotted intoSenator Matt Thislethwaitesposition, along with Ed HusicFederal Labor will have twoALP Muslims. What Labor is saying is thatthe Muslim vote in the SouthWest of Sydney is worth tenmillion dollars along withsupport for just Palestinianrights and two Muslim ALPloyalists on their tickets. As

for the Lebanese Christianvote, this had to be placatedwith $10 million and a richhistory of Christian Lebanese

in various parliamentsaround the country, the mostinuential of these being EddieObeid. I dont know what theyestimate the worth of Muslimsin Victoria to be when it comesto a federal election, thoughMr. Dastiyari did go there towork on the ALP campaign. To the Coalition, we are openlyworth an Iftar and one Muslimcandidate in Victoria. At therecent Muslims Australia Iftarwhich I attended, CoalitionImmigration Spokesman ScottMorrison lavished exceptionalpraise on one LebaneseMuslim Association leaderthereby highlighting thestrong relations the coalitionenjoys with the LakembaMosque. This leaves no doubtin my mind that whateverLabor offers, the coalition islikely to match and up the antewith perhaps an extra kitchensink or two.To the new Palmer UnitedParty, Muslims seem to beworth even more, not onlydo they have three Muslimlower house candidates John(Mohammad) Nasser forWatson, Nadeem Ashraf forReid , and Raheam Khanfor North Sydney but othercandidates including BlaxlandsZali Burrows have expressedcommendable support andconcern for minority rights. The only PUP candidate tomake an uninformed commentabout the faith (in Queensland)was quickly referred to a

disciplinary committee withMr. Palmer himself calling

Muslim leaders to reasserthis support for an inclusivemulticultural multi-religiousAustralian society. In thepast, Tony Abbott resisted thetemptation to censure CoryBernardi for his Islam-phobiccomments. Further, the PUPtrumps both the ALP and theCoalition on their refugeepolicy and in recent times, Mr.Palmer has made some verypromising statements on theenvironment. The Greens appeal to Muslimshas always been through theirrefugee, environment andanti-war policies. In Aprilthis year, the Greens beattheir drums and blew theirpipes over the promotion ofa moderate Muslim womanto the NSW upper house to

replace Cate Faehrmann whovacated her seat to contest asenate position. However, atthe last NSW state election, the Australian National ImamsCouncil issued a very clearstatement telling Muslims notto vote for the Greens becauseof their vocal support for samegender unions . However, itremains to be seen whetherthis makes the AustralianGreens a spent force as far asMuslims are concerned.Whilst Australia as a nationis coming of age by showingmore acceptance of MuslimAustralians, we need to askourselves the question: havewe, the Muslims of Australia, come of age?Do we know or appreciateour worth and what we can

contribute to our adoptednation? In terms of Australias budget, grants to Muslim organisationsare literally no more thancrumbs (in this case, 10million out of 3.7 billion isless than .003% of the livinglonger budget to cover morethan 2% of Australians). When it comes to the partysMuslim nominations at thefederal level, these are partypeople and party nominations, not nominations by thecommunity, whilst we wishthem the very best, thesenominations are part of theALP machinery, they are ALPpeople and they cannot besaid to be representative of a

Muslim constituency. Severalmonths of discussions with

the ALP to accept a communitynomination have taught meone lesson and that lessonis that the party continuesto be parochial, interestedpredominantly in people ithas groomed, or stars such asformer Midnight Oil front manPeter Garrett or Sheryl Kernotwho was poached from theAustralian Democrats.Where does this leave acommunity which has beenkicked around like an unevenpolitical ball for the last twentyor so years?I know that there are threegroups within the AustralianMuslim community thatwould rather ignore the entireprocess, they cite the Muslimforay into politics in Algeriaand more recently in Egypt

as examples where practicingMuslims will be underminedand overturned even wherethey win overwhelming publicsupport. These groups need to knowthat the Australian politicallandscape is vastly andcompletely different.Firstly, Muslims cannot wina majority in any Australianparliament to be able to form agovernment as was the case inthe two North African nations.Secondly, there are decisionsthat are made at parliamentarylevel that have not beenexposed to proper scrutinyin terms of their impacton Australian minorities(especially Australian Muslims)and on the rift they createwithin society.

Thirdly, they need to realisethat such an electoral effortneeds to be open to other fair-minded people in Australiaso that we reect the exactnature of our faith, that weare inclusive people as we hadbeen historically. We needto prove that our presence inparliament is for the good ofthis nation which I genuinelybelieve it to be.If we choose to continue tolive in Australia, we need tomake a positive difference inevery sphere, especially thedecision-making sphere ofparliament and show everyAustralian that we are peopleof values and principles even inthe arena where we have seen

politicians prefer expediencyover justice and fairness.

In disappointment withcontemporary politics, I wrotethe following ode to reectthe dichotomy of values thatI have witnessed in todaysMachiavellian politician:

To me, I epitomize all valuesand ethics dearMy fall from grace may to all bevery clearTo me, my errors areunderstandable, in the mainNothing is my fault, I willaccept no blameNever will I let you pronounceme with shameYes, when I am wrong, myvalues are obscureBecause I never err, for I ampureFor I am the dichotomy thatshapes my weakness

Racist opposition to people who do not looklike us (i.e. of Anglo-Celtic origin), has along history in this land. It is no longer adominant theme, but we should be aware of

how pervasive it has been until the quite recent past.It was not until the 1972 Whitlam Labor Governmentthat the White Australia Policy was nally wiped out.Hopefully the Department of Immigration is aware ofthat change.Between the World WarsAn obsession with the peopling of the empire with thewhite race dominated discussion of migration in theperiod after the Great War. Sir Rider Haggard, author ofthe immensely popular novels King Solomons Minesand Allan Quartermain had visited Australia in 1916on behalf of the Royal Colonial Institute to study the

question of the emigration from Britain of soldiers andtheir families at wars end. It was understood in Britainthat when the troops returned there would be a greatindustrial disturbance. The men might not wish toreturn to their old jobs, many of which had been takenby women anyway. That meant they would emigrate, probably to the United States. As they would be lostto the British Empire if this happened, Britain wasseeking possible opportunities in the dominions. Thescheme was openly racist. According to Haggard; TheEmpire is not over-populated with white folk. In fact,it is greatly under-populated. That being so, it is surelyhighly desirable that at any sacricethe Empire shouldattempt to retain the sons who have fought for her. These sons did not include non-Anglos who had alsofought in the war.Italians, who had fought on the side of the British, didnot count as sons, especially if they were from thesouth. Nor did Indians, who had died in their thousandsfor the Empire. The Protestant Federation of the timesupported the Big Brother Movement. Its slogan wasBritons for Australia and Australia for Britons. We cansmell its decaying corpse in the present hysteria aboutboat people and refugees in Australia right now.It should be understood that the general level of racismwithin Australian society was at a high level during theinter-war period. The relations between the dominantAnglo community and indigenous Australians illustratesthe atmosphere of the time. As late as 1929 there werereports of the murders of indigenous Australians inthe outback by white pastoralists and their henchmen. The Federal Board of Inquiry constituted to inquireinto several such shootings in 1929, consisted only ofofcials and relied heavily upon the word of reputablesettlers who were present at the shootings andhad apparently taken part. The Australian Board ofMissions, a church body, in a resolution sent to thePrime Minister Mr Bruce, expressed its dissatisfactionwith both the composition of the Board and its ndings.Among the causes given for the dissatisfaction of theaborigines there had been no reference to injustice andwrongdoing on the part of any whites. Indeed one ofthe causes of dissatisfaction, according to the Board ofInquiry was unattached missionaries wandering fromplace to place, having no knowledge of blacks and theircustoms and teaching a doctrine of equality. This wasthe only wrongdoing of whites that came up.Echoes of this past history still exist in the culture ofa fortunately diminishing section of the Australianpopulation. Nowadays racism is often hidden under thegleaf of Islamophobia, as the old attitudes have beenso discredited. We hope that those who are introducing disgustingpolicies pandering to this redneck cultural survival, willlearn their error through the ballot box.

So much has been happeningin our world, from Muslimprisoners being force fed inGuantanamo, to outrage and

turmoil in the Muslim World, and to ourvery own Australia getting in on theaction with the closing of the doors onpeople seeking asylum.Of course, this current state of ourworld needs no introduction. It seemslike not much happiness is going on andunfortunately, it seems to get cruellerand crueller by the day.On a happier note though, our painsseemed to have been pushed aside withthe birth of the Royal Baby not longago. At not even an hour old, that baby made

headlines worldwide and still continuesto do so.The level of importance the media andthe world allocate to stories such asthe royal baby is beyond a joke. Whileso much tragedy is occurring, it isobvious that this royal blooded babys

life is of greater signicance than theblood of those thousands of people whoare dying every day from starvation, persecution and torture.Civilisation as we know it will not goon if tragedies like this continue. Ourworld is being destroyed before oureyes and our brothers and sisters arebeing slaughtered in every corner ofthe globe. We are reminded over and over againwith what is happening but feel that weare too far away to do anything.Wrong. We are missing the point. It is not just about Syria or Egypt orBurma or Palestine anymore. Doingour part is not just about sending somecharity and clothes their way. We donot realise that this humiliation is areection of our failure as a nation.Allah Subhanaahu wa Taaalah said inthe holy Quran:

Verily Allah will never change thecondition of a people until they changethemselves(13:11)We, as Muslims, cannot sit back and

presume everything will get betterbecause it wont.

The Muslim Nation is like a body. When one part hurts the rest of thebody feels it. It does not look like thisis happening. We are clearly in a lot oftrouble and perhaps these atrocitiesand the humiliation of Muslims aresigns telling us to wake up. So, enoughwith these ridiculous corruption-lled weddings. Enough with theseall-nighter card and shisha sessions.Enough with the hatred, jealousy andresentment towards one another. Isthis the way of life Muhammad (peacebe upon him) preached? Is this how youthink the dignity and honour of Islamwill be restored?Brothers and sisters, focus on whatis important and what should be yourpriority. Bring Islam back to yourhomes and back into your lives. LiveIslam. Spread Islam. Breathe Islam.

During August 2013 theAustralian Institute ofManagement holds itsNational Networking

Week [August 5 to 9]. The initiativeacknowledges the importance oflearning through networking alongwith the personal and businessdevelopment opportunities that alsocome with effective and genuinenetworking.I learnt the value of networks very earlyon; in one of my earliest businesses mywork came from networking. When your self employed the relianceyou have on networking simply cantbe over stated, after all, to pursueentrepreneurial dreams means in noshort part that you have to learn how tosuccessfully and effectively network. After all, in my case if I didnt securework for my emerging business, I didnteat. Ones survival instincts soon kick inand make for a powerful motivator.

While that phase may have been manyyears ago now, the value of networkinghas only grown and now with tools suchas LinkedIn its easier than ever before.Having a network with which you canshare ideas, knowledge and experiencewith are just some of the basics today;however, dont attempt to network ifyou are not prepared t o give more thanyou will receive.Networking must be done withgood and genuine intent, approachnetworking from the perspective thatits an opportunity for you to give notwhat you can extract from it.

Successful networking is indeed a key

pillar to a successful business and asuccessful professional career, my top10 (secrets to success) lessons for thosewanting to improve their networkingcapabilities are:

Be clear about what Networking isand how you will approach it Learn to think on your feet and adaptto circumstances as they change Pay attention to those around you;learn from those that do it well Educate yourself on other peoplescustoms and practices; be culturallyaware especially before engaging with

them Dont mix your social and businessnetworks, especially online Be enthusiastic Be real, genuine interest is nevercontrived Maximise your networkingopportunities and set time aside eachweek Follow up and thank people Keep track via a system such asLinkedIn to assist in bringing yournetwork to lifeNetworking is, as much about people asanything else, if you dont have genuineinterest in others, dont network for ifyou do, you will be remembered for a llthe wrong reasons. How will you know if your networkingefforts are being successful? If you are facilitating connections, opportunities and learning for othersyour networking efforts are indeedsuccessful..

My policy re Asylum SeekersThe issue of asylum seekers is a national one thatneed consistent attention, it shouldnt be broughtto the media during election time. It is a humanright issue that doesnt deserve to be traded forvoters content.

According to DLP policy and my own judgment, Iwill support a policy that guarantee fair onshoreprocessing for asylum seekers, I will also urgeAustralian legislative and executive bodies toincrease humanitarian intake through the UnitedNations high commission for refugees, and thisprocess will work best in collaboration withcountries in the region by working hard to stoppeople smugglers from endangering human lives..

Why I am running for Calwell seat? I lost trust in the Major Parties. Their election promises expire once they are inofce. Their democracy is selective and not inclusive. They failed to deliver on any issue of nationalconcern. Their priority is o be in power by any mean. We need new values and new voices Together we can make difference.

    The basis of the

    2011 Egyptianrevolution wasaish, hurriyah

wa karama insaniyya (bread, freedom and dignity). Theconcept of participatorypolitics was non-existent due toHosni Mubaraks authoritariangrip being favoured by theWest, as it gave them a falsesense of stability in the region(albeit Egypt was in a stateof emergency for over fourdecades). The current courseof events, again, reasserts theWests hypocrisy when it isexpected to assert its authorityin upholding the legitimacyof a democratically electedgovernment. The rule of law is a complexyet universal mechanism thatensures the orderly operationof societies. Everybody isaccountable under the lawand when this very order isdisrespected, society plungesinto chaos and disorder. TheMiddle East - the blood-lledregion where populations areruled by vampire-like dictatorswho pillage the peoples

    wealth and resources; where

rulers and their henchmen arebeyond the realm of the law - isa great example of the absenceof law and order. In Egypt, grave human rights violationshave been committed againstcivilians resisting illegitimacybrought about by the Egyptianarmy, bolstered by theshameful support of oil-richSaudi Arabia ($12 billion),the US ($1.5 billion), andthe European Union ($1.3billion), all of which havebeen nancing the massacresperpetrated by the Egyptianarmy. When a beret-wearing general, donning fatigues, ordersstate television to declare thesuspension of the Constitutionand that the President is nolonger President, the termcoup is tting like a gloveto a hand. Why then, has theObama administration refusedto call a spade a spade, andeven gone further to announcethat Egypts military isrestoring democracy whenit ousted elected PresidentMohamed Morsi in early July?

Under US law, the ForeignAssistance Act 1961 (section508) outlaws assistance to anycountry whose duly electedhead of government is deposedby military coup. The US has

cunningly avoided using theword coup which would havetriggered US law and requireda suspension of military aidaccording to legal experts.Despite the US recentlyannouncing the temporarysuspension of military aid toEgypt, it has fallen short ofaccepting its legal obligations, according to American lawprofessor Michael C. Dorf andothers. The US has accustomeditself to being the belligerentinterventionist in the MiddleEast, prominently establishinginstitutions and governmentsinclined to the West in theregion. Morsis governmenthas been accosted for being anIslamist democratic partyas it was assumed that theMuslim Brotherhood would behostile towards the norms ofinternationalism (i.e. Westernvalues); hence the AmericanIsrael Public Affairs Committee(AIPAC), disdainfully stating,at this point, its army oranarchy. This statement itselfshould raise alarm bells, as it

demonstrates the irrationalitybehind Morsis ousting. Itperpetually assumes that anyIslamist government is a foe ofthe West. Turkey is one of thevery few states which has taken

an active stance in denouncingthe coup, leveraging Turkey tobeing in precious isolationin the region as many OICstate members have sidedwith the West and havefailed to exonerate thoseinicting the violence; thus, the Muslim Brotherhood andits proponents have beensidelined, with many afraid tocall on injustice. The peaceful rallies inMelbourne and abroad aretestament to those who havebeen martyred in the pursuitof justice. We have becomeaccustomed to the inhumanityand injustice that permeatesour world, but we will neveraccept it. The one who remainssilent in the face of falsehoodis like the tongueless devil.

Protesters started at State Library andended at Federation Square. In a loud but peaceful rally, the protestorscarried the yellow Rabia sign. A sign

made by raising four ngers. The sign hasbecome a global icon for solidarity withEgyptian protesters after Prime MinsterErdogan used it in a public address. Rabiameans four or fourth in Arabic and hence

the four ngers.Speakers at the rally told of familymembers who had been martyred by theEgyptian army in the aftermath of thecoup and led demonstrators in chantscalling down down Sisi down and noto bloodshed. The demonstrators alsocalled for condemnation of Syrian BasharAl Assad. The grand Mufti of Australia, Ibrahim AbuMohamed, addressed the rally and called

for an immediate end to violence in Egypt,a condemnation of the military coup in thestrongest possible terms, the release of allpolitical prisoners and a halt on attackson places of worship whether they be

mosques or churches. The large crowd gave the Victorian Policea loud cheer when Adel Salman told thecrowd the Victorian Police is makingit easy for us to protest today as hecompared Australia to Egypt and addedAustralia is a land of freedom and justiceand we demand nothing less for people inEgypt and Syria. The rally was organized by a coalition ofIslamic community organizations and the

organizers were inspired by the sense ofunity and solidarity across the Muslimcommunity in Melbourne. That diversitywas obvious in the rally.
