ontvang dat daar n halfnaakte man

op di deel van Ou Paarl-weg loop.

Die polisie het uitgegaan om on-

dersoek in te stel, maar het Brand

nie opgespoor nie. Hy is kort daarna

    bewusteloos aangetref by die krui-

sing van La Belle- en Ou Paarlweg

slegs geklee in n kortbroek en

    sokkies, het Nimb ges.

    Die twee verdagtes is Woensdag

    vasgetrek nadat n verdagte motor

    dopgehou is, het Nimb ges.

    Die motor was onder observasie.

Dit is geparkeer gevind agter woon-

stelle agter die Pick n Pay-sentrum

    in Brackenfell. Die twee verdagtes

het Woensdag gekom om dit te kom

    haal.

    Die ondersoekbeampte is laat

weet, en hy het die twee binne-in die

    voertuig in hegtenis geneem, het

    Nimb ges.

Die twee het eers ges dat hulle

die voertuig by n vriend geleen het,

maar daar is bevind dat hulle jok.

Daar is sterk DNS-leidrade op die

    voertuig gevind, wat vergelyk is

    met die oorledene se DNS.

    Die bestuurder van die voertuig

het verlede Dinsdag in die Bellville-

landdroshof verskyn op n klag van

    strafbaremanslagmet verswarende

    omstandighede, het Nimb ges.

Die polisie wil graag enige voet-

    gangers waarsku teen die gebruik

van die kruising van die R300-pad

met Ou Paarl-weg. Gevalle is aange-

meld van rowers wat mense hier

voorl. n Kenmerk van die voorval-

le is dat hulle slagoffers eers beroof

en dan hul klere afneem. Dit was ge-

valle waar mense van nagklubs ge-

    kom het, het Nimb ges.

Beware of a busy intersection in

Bellville you may be hijacked he-

    re.

This was the warning a security

    company wanted TygerBurger to

convey to residents after an attempt

was made to hijack a vehicle at the

    intersection of Mountain View

    Drive and Eversdal Road.

    Patrick Hall, the community de-

    velopment manager for ADT across

the northern suburbs, said the at-

    tempted hijacking took place last

    Thursday at about 06:15.

Three men pointed a firearm at

a single woman in her vehicle at the

traffic light, but she managed to es-

cape. Please stay on the alert at all

    times, he said.

    He advised residents to drivewith

the car windows closed and doors

    locked. Hall said motorists should

    monitor their surroundings for sus-

    picious activity.

Single drivers must be careful at

traffic lights. Always keep an open

space in front of you it can be used

as an escape route, he said.

    Motorists warned of hijack attempt

    TygerBurger this year joined the

Twitter Blanket Drive (#TBD) to act

as a collection point for donations.

The Twitter Blanket Drive is a

    uniquely South African, communi-

ty-driven response to the needs of

the poor during the winter months.

The drive started with a single

    tweet in 2010. FounderMelanieMin-

    naar, contemplating the cold winter

ahead, tweeted: What if each per-

son on Twitter donated a blanket?

    Since then, the#TBDmovementhas

    grown in leaps and bounds.

    All efforts promoting the national

drive focus on Twitter. All benefici-

    ary organisations are non-profits

    registered with the department of

    social development.

    Collection points have been crea-

ted across the country and at Twee-

tups Twitter users tweet about do-

nating their blankets and enjoy a

    meal ordrinkat the collectionpoint,

    usually a restaurant or cafe.

The Twitter Blanket Drive has in-

jected a true sense of community in-

    to the South African Twittersphere,

as users unite to help disadvantaged

    people keep warm during winter.

The Twitter Blanket Drive has al-

    so expanded to neighbouring coun-

tries, as seen during a successful

    event in Zimbabwe in 2012.

There will be Tweetups in Cape

    Town, Johannesburg and Durban

on Thursday 29 May 2014. The main

event in Cape Townwill be at the Fi-

re & Ice Hotel in the CBD.

    Northern suburbs residents can

drop their blankets off at the recep-

    tion area ofTygerBurgers offices at

the Bloemhof Building, on the cor-

ner of Bloemhof and Edward streets

    in Bellville.

ere it not that an innovative con

man pretended to work for Tyger-

    Burger, his cover would probably

not have been blown. Now he just needs to

    be caught.

    Amanwho introduces himself as aTyger-

Burger deliveryman, Ricardo Bester, is col-

lecting money in Goodwood for his mo-

thers funeral. Bester states in an affidavit,

signed and stamped at the Parow police sta-

    tion, that hiswheelchair boundmotherdied

    in a fire in Clanwilliam.

    Tall story

    Goodwood resident Richard Smith says

he believed this story when he first heard

it andmade a contribution. But threeweeks

later he was presented with another, simi-

lar affidavit by the sameman, also stamped

by the Parow police. Only this time, themo-

ther apparently died in Oudtshoorn. Bester

either lost two wheelchair bound mothers

in fires within three weeks in different

towns, or he was trying his luck.

The latter seeming more probable, Smith

this time insisted on a death certificate.

Bester then started threatening him. When

he left, Smith called the Parow police. He

learned there are 56 outstanding cases

against Ricardo Bester, although the police

told him there could be more than one per-

    son by that name.

A couple of weeks ago one of your delive-

rymen, Cecil Booysen, was collecting mo-

ney for two of his colleagues who were kil-

led in a stabbing incident, says a Parow re-

ader, Laurette Nel. She says he had an

affidavit stating the story and people were

    contributing huge amounts.

Yesterday he came again. This time he

had an affidavit stating his mother died in

a fire, she says. She took pictures of the sig-

    ned and stamped affidavit.

This affidavit bears the same handwri-

ting and street address as the one Bester

presented to Smith in Goodwood. The ad-

dress on top is in both cases Sage Road, Ath-

lone, although on the one it is number 6 and

    on the other, number 61.

    According to Ulrich Steynberg, operati-

    onsmanager for OnTheDot,TygerBurgers

    contracted distribution company, there is

no employee named Ricardo Bester or Cecil

    Booysen.

    Aliases

It could be that this trickster is operating

under other aliases aswell, as other readers

phoned in the past weeks with similar sto-

ries. A Parow woman says a man claiming

to be a driver of the TygerBurger delivery

vehicle has an affidavit stamped by theAth-

lone police, detailing the tragic death of his

mother and sister in a fire in Oudtshoorn.

Thewoman says people on the list contribu-

ted up to R200 per person. She gave the beg-

gar R20, for which she received a thankless

    swear word.

Steynberg said On The Dot, TygerBurger

and Peoples Post do not support or approve

    any formof door-to-door donations, begging

    or collection by their employees.

We normally make a donation from the

company if there is death in the family of

an employee and they can present a death

certificate, he says. He asks the public to

not support any begging in the name of any

of the companies and asked they phone the

    police immediately if someone does.

    Conman uses TygerBurger for lie

Majedien Norton made history in South Af-

rica, but for the wrong reasons. He was the

first person in the country tobe foundguilty

in a court of law for pirating a movie.

This, according to technology news site,

Broadband.com, as well as Son newspaper.

According to the tabloid, the 29-year-old

father of two from Epping pleaded guilty on

Thursday 17 April to illegally uploading the

    gangster-themed movie Four Corners onto

    the internet.

Because of Norton, the movie which re-

cently started showing in cinemas locally

was available to all and sundry since the

end of last year for as little as R5, the tabloid

said, causing themovie to suffer huge losses

    at the box office.

Helen Kuun of Indigenous Film Distribu-

tion, tasked with distributing the movie,

told the paper the box office suffered becau-

se pirate copies were freely available before

    the premire.

Norton pleaded guilty in the Bellville

Commercial Crimes Court on charges of il-

legal copying and distribution and was sen-

tenced to a three-year suspended sentence

and a R3000 fine, the tabloid said.

Norton, an employee at a mechanical

workshop, will be retrenched at the end of

the month. He said he got the Four Corners

CD from a friend who was selling it on a

    street corner in Parow.

According to Son, he admits to having

uploaded the CD to the internet to share

with others, and admitted in his plea barga-

in that hewasnaive and ignorant of the con-

sequences financial loss to the producers

    and distributors.

    Norton helped Giant Film Productions,

the producer, remove themovie from the in-

ternet and admitted to feeling regretful. He

apologised to the producers and the court.

    The technology news site, Broad-

band.com, reported Nortons sentence as a

five-year suspended prison sentence and no

    fine.

According to the site, technology lawyers

    had said previously that themaximumpen-

alty for a repeat copyright offender was five

years in prison and/or a fine of up to R10

    000.

First time offenders could look at three

years in jail and a fine of up to R5 000 for

    distributing copyrighted content without

    the proper license, Broadband.com repor-

    ted.

The site quotedFour Corners director Ian

Gabriel as stating that while he is pleased

the film is reachingmore people, in the long

run unchecked piracy will literally mean

    the end of film-making.

    Narsis is iemandmet

    oormatige selfliefde

Wie en wat is n narsis? Narsisme is n

. Oordrewe gevoel van sy belangrik-

    heid en prestasies;

    . n Obsessie met die eie ek;

    . Doelwitte is oordrewe, onrealisties

    en selfgesentreerd;

    . Wil altyd die beste van alles h;

    . Ervaar vinnig verwerping;

    bereik;

. Het fantasie oor sy eie sukses,

    aantreklikheid en intelligensie;

    . Word geweldig jaloers;

. Soek voortdurend aandag en erken-

    ning van ander;

. Sukkel om gesonde verhoudinge te

    handhaaf;

. Gebrek aan empatie en begrip vir

    ander;

. Nie n opregte omgee vir die gevoe-

    lens van ander nie;

. Reageer met woede, skaamte en

    vernedering op kritiek;

. Vergroot sy prestasies van die

    verlede.

Bostaande inventaris gee n goeie idee

wie en wat n narsis is. In werklikheid

homself. Hy leef met n oordrewe selflief-

de. Aanvanklik wanneer jy die narsis

ontmoet, bendruk hy jou met sy sjarme

en charisma. Sodra jy hom egter beter

leer ken, sien jy agter hierdie fassade

skuil arrogansie, snobisme en n egosen-

triese persoonlikheid. Hy is n akteur

wat n aangename beeld aan die publiek

    voorhou, maar is inderwaarheid n

    patologiese leuenaar en manipuleerder.

Die narsis se beeld van homself is

wanaangepas en hy sien homself as

    buitengewoon aantreklik in voorkoms.

Hy ervaar sy prestasie en sukses,

intelligensie en vermons as iets beson-

ders. Die narsis lei aan n grootheids-

waan en is arrogant en meerderwaardig

teenoor ander mense. Jy moenie die

narsis probeer kritiseer nie hy hou

    niks daarvan nie. Enige verhouding

Hy is uitermatig jaloers

en dit versuur natuurlik sy verhoudinge

    en lei tot konflik.

    Die narsis sal verskillende strategie

en metodes gebruik om homself te

beskerm. Hy sal byvoorbeeld n ander se

mening en prestasies afkraak en met

    vyandigheid bejen. Hy is vyandig

teenoor enigiets wat sy ego sal skaad.

Kortom: n Narsis ag homself as uiterma-

hree alleged thieves gave new mean-

ing to the term family jewels.

    A stop-and-search by police resulted

in a number of articles finding their way

out of the suspects backpacks, socks and

    even their underpants.

Two vigilant officers from the Bellville

    police, tasked with combating housebreak-

ings in De la Haye, made this discovery last

    Wednesday around 13:15, said police

    spokesperson Captain Fienie Nimb.

    Sergeants Trevor Doubell and Eileen

Conrad were busy with patrols in De la

Haye. They saw three men dressed in blue

overall pants walking in Constable Street.

One of the men had a blue beach bag over

    his shoulder.

The men were stopped and searched. In

the beach bag was an iPad tablet, a cell-

phone and two pairs of expensive running

shoes. The iPad tablet was covered in a kid-

    dies beach towel, she said.

Nimb said one of the suspects had a green

backpack, inside which two more iPad tab-

lets and two cellphones were found.

They could not provide reasonable ex-

    planations regarding these possessions.

Nimb said after a more thorough search,

jewellery was found in the shoes of one of

    the suspects.

The three men were arrested for posses-

sion of stolen goods. On their arrival at the

    police station,more jewellerywas found in-

side the underpants of one of the suspects.

Nimb said the threemen aged 40, 29 and

    33 are from Bontheuwel.

She said a housebreaking in Van Eyck

Street, De la Haye, was reported at the Bel-

lville police station later that evening.

She said a back window of the house had

been forced open and the stolen property

    identified by the house owners.

He ducked some bullets, ran for cover, and

    shot back at would-be burglars.

All this happened on Wednesday night

when Sithembele Gabelana, an armed res-

ponse officer, investigated an alarm trigge-

red at a property in Boschendal Street in

    Oude Westhof.

    Security companyADTs statement notes

Gabelanaarrived at thehouse at 19:01, ame-

re three minutes after the alarm went off.

There (Gabelana) noticed the gate was

open and that a black Audi, with its park

lights on, was reversed into the driveway.

Gabelana exited his vehicle to investiga-

te, and as he entered the property a suspect

fired shots at him. The officer took cover be-

hind his vehicle, from where he returned

    fire, the statement said.

The suspect then called out to his accom-

plices. Two men exited the house into the

    car which immediately sped off.

    Gabelana thenradioed tonotify thepolice

When police arrived, they discovered the

suspects had derailed the driveway gate

and forced open the front door.

We commend Officer Gabelana for his

    bravery and quick-thinking under pressu-

re, said Rob Dale, Managing Director of

    ADT Security Western Cape.

No-one was injured during the incident,

and police are investigating the matter.

Dale said residents can takepractical pre-

cautions to enhance their safety as well as

that of their loved ones and property.

Its very important that the alarm is ar-

ulle is sulke goeie aktrises dat hulle

paaie met Los Angeles Hollywood se

    tuiste maar net ms kruis.

Di hulle is twee jong Bellvilliete, Abi

Ma-

    lan.

    Hul dramajuffrou, Zandra Duvenhage,

    Championships of the Performing Arts-

    kies as haar toegewyde passie.

gedoen in vyf kategorie: sang, dans, drama,

    modelwerk en instrumenteel.

Zandra vertel dat Abi net so goed gevaar

het. Abi Combrink is van Januarie verlede

jaar n dramaleerling by my. Sy is ook baie

talentvol en werk besonder hard vir iemand

wat maar in graad 3 is! s Zandra.

Sy het merkwaardige stage presence vir

haar ouderdom en kan alreeds n stresvolle

verhoogsituasie met n groot gehoor op

n gedissiplineerde wyse hanteer, en stds

    haar beste lewer.

    vertolkings was besonder noemenswaardig.

    inleef.

    Huil

Met haar dramatic was die gehoor be-

sen hierdie twee is vir toneelspel, s Idel.

Amelia vertel verder Carla het by die SA

    kampioenskapsbyeenkoms sonder verwag-

    ting vyf medaljes ingeryg.

Carla was stomgeslaan en heeltemal on-

tes.

    hulle!

The Your Street campaing launched by

Subcouncil 3 chairperson James Vos hopes

to get residents actively taking care of their

    surroundings.

I hope residents will begin to recognise

the possibilities and potential of the com-

munitys urban spaces and the other featu-

res their streets have to offer, said Vos at

    the latest subcouncil meeting.

Take a closer look at your street, and

then ask yourself: What would I have do-

    ne? said Vos.

He suggested one place to start would be

to report blockeddrains and stormwater sy-

    stems before winter starts.

We all know that regular cleaning and

clearing of stormwater drains is a basic ser-

vice, and an extremely important one.Good

news is that I have received confirmation

from the roads and stormwater department

that prior to the onset of the rainy season

all systems will be cleared and cleaned

    throughout our wards.

All our roads and stormwater gullies

must be cleaned ofweeds and litter, and our

drain inlets cleared to prevent the potenti-

ally dangerous situation of flooded roads,

    he said.

He said in many cases household waste,

including garden cuttings and used motor

oil containers, are the main reasons for

    blockages in the stormwater system.

The fact of the matter is that residents

also have a vital role to play in this regard

by taking more care of their front verges

and gutters as this will prevent the grass

and litter from accruing in the drains. It is

also important to ask anyone with a garden

service to insist that grass cuttings are col-

lected and taken away, instead of being

swept down the nearest drain, he said.

VResidents are urged to report blocked stormwater

    systems on 0860 10 30 54 or email watertoc@ca

    petown.gov.za.

Because of her love of musical notes, Ca-

ron, in grade 12 at Settlers High school in

Bellville, has earned herself a coveted an-

    nual meritorious award.

Caron was awarded the Hennie Joubert

Merit Prize for her UNISA grade 7 piano

examination in 2013, said Ilse Koeslag, Ca-

rons private music teacher from Loeven-

    stein.

This prize is awarded anually by UNISA

to the top three achievers per grade for all

    insruments countrywide. Caron obtained a

mark of 94% for this examination, Ilse

    said.

Caron has been playing the piano for 12

years. She started in grade 1 at StAugustine

    Primary school, Wynberg. Her favourite

composer is Chopin because hismusic is so

beautiful, but yet very challenging, saud

    Ilse.

Caron has always had a piano at home

andwhen shewas small the instrument fas-

cinated her and she would always play on

it. She could playmelodies by ear after hea-

ring them in church on Sundays or pieces

    her sisters would play.

According to Ilse, the young lady is also

    and excellent bassoonist.

She played her grade 7 UNISA examina-

tion for this instrument last year and obtai-

ned 88%. The two instruments keep her ve-

ry busy. She hopes to study music after

school, but if this does not happen, she will

    never stop playing the piano.

    SLICE OF LIFE

    SA rugby sal

    iets drasties

    mt doen

    kompetisie.

Dit terwyl die Australiese spanne, wat

verlede jaar gesukkel het, nou uithaler-

rugby speel.

toekoms. En in di geval praat geld baie

harder as lojaliteit teenoor hul plaaslike

    span.

wees. Want wie wil nou eintlik spelers in

die Super Vyftien dophou as hulle na

    regte in die Vodacombeker-kompetisie

    tuishoort?

Borge gaan ook binnekort kopsku raak

om by di sport betrokke te raak. Ver-

    loorders trek histories nooit groot

    borgskappe nie.
