Die ondersoek na ongerymdhede tussen

die polisiehos en Dawjee verloop reeds se-

dert 2013, met uiteenlopende betalings deur

Dawjee wat glo reeds sedert 2011 aan hulle

gemaak is.

Van die onrelmatighede sluit in beta-

lings vir verblyf, vliegtuigkaartjies, weel-

derige voertuie wat vir die beamptes ge-

koop of gehuur is.

Dawjee, van Plattekloof, het glo ook be-

taal vir swembaddienste enpetrolverbruik

by n vulstasie in Goodwood.

Luidens hofstukke is betalings van ten

minste R1,3 miljoen glo aan die Govender-

egpaar gemaak, met betalings aan Van der

Ross, die voormalige hoof van die Bellville-

polisiegroepering (wat die Bellville-, Pa-

row-, Goodwood- en Bothasig-polisiekanto-

re insluit) van sowat R7 000.

van sy fiets afgestamp toe ry die poli-

sieman van die toneel af weg.

Ds glo wat die fietsryer, n sakeman van

Oakglen (59), oorgekomhet toe n adjudant-of-

fisier in die polisiemag hom op Donderdag 9

April omgestamp en weggery het.

Die fietsryervertel: Ekhet opdieOuPaarl-

pad gery. Op die hoek vanHadley enOuPaarl

was daar n taxi besig om mense af te laai by

n rooi verkeerslig.

Daarwas n silwerNissanAlmera voor di

taxi, maar die Almera het geen flikkerligte

aangehad om te toon waarheen hy wou draai

nie.

Dis toe die lig groen raak en die fietsryer

verby die taxi langs die Almera ry, dat die

bestuurder van di kar skielik links begin

draai het.

Hy hetmy van die fiets afgery en aange-

ry. My oog het n stukkie van sy nommer-

plaat gevang.Hyhet so 200 of 300 meterver-

der na regs gedraai, vertel die fietsryer.

Di besluit toe om sy familie te bel, en

dan die man te volg. Die fietsryer vertel hy

het sy fiets opgetel en probeer regmaak so

goed hy kon; toe is hy agterna om by elke

woonstelkompleks in te kyk vir die silwer

motor.

Toe ek by die laaste kompleks inry, Vil-

la Bianco-woonstelle, staan sy kar daar

mt die groot, swart skraap waar hymy op

die fiets getref het, vertel die man.

Ek het die polisie gebel en hulle het uit-

gekom. Toe hulle daar kom, het hulle hom

gaan uithaal. Hy het n baie arrogante hou-

ding gehad. Waar het dit nogal gebeur?

wou hy weet.

Ekhet kwaad geraak,want hywoualles

ontken. Toe vra hy my: Nou hoekom het

jy nie in die fietsrybaan gery nie?, dan

wt hy mos wat hy gedoen het! Dis waar

hy homself vas-gepraat het, vertel die

fietsryer.

My linkerhand is gebreek. Ek moes die

Saterdag (11 April) n operasie ondergaan

waartydens hulle n plaat in my hand gesit

het. Daar is skrape oral op my liggaam en

ekhet ookmyregterknie lelik seergemaak.

Toe hy begin kwaad word, het k ook

kwaad geword, s die fietsryer.

besorg. Hy het n rang in die polisie. Iemand

in syposisie behoortmosvanbeter te geweet

het, s die fietsryer.

Di ding moet rugbaar gemaak word

maak nie saak wi dit is nie om te wys hoe

sommige wetstoepassers optree. Ek kon

dood gewees het.

Die 30-jarige polisieman se identiteit is

aan TygerBurger bekend, maar omdat hy

nog nie in n hof gepleit het op enige van die

aanklagte nie, mag dit nie bekend gemaak

word nie.

Die polisiebeampte het die geleentheid om

kommentaar te lewer, van die hand gewys.

Ek het geen probleem om enigiets te ver-

duidelik nie, het hy aan TygerBurger ges,

en verneem of die koerant die fietsryer se

regsverteenwoordiger is.

Ek voel nie gemaklik om oor die foon te

praat nie, en kan nie enige verklarings gee

nie. Dankie dat julle my ingelig het. Sodra

die koerant uitkom, sal ek stappe doen deur

my eie regsverteenwoordiging, het hy ges.

le polisie-taakmag.

he 22-year-old son of a local Welge-

dacht swimming club owner has been

charged with 18 counts of burglary at

a college in Alabama in the USA.

DuncanBonney, a standout athlete and

student at theBirmingham-SouthernColle-

ge, is said to have raided his college mates

dorm rooms while they were on spring

break.

This was reported by the AlabamaMedia

Group on their website, AL.com on Wed-

nesday 8April. According to theAL.comre-

porter, Carol Robinson, Duncan is said to

have perpetrated the burglaries after stea-

ling a master key to the dormitories.

Duncan is the son of Gary and Su Bonney

from Welgedacht in Bellville, who own the

well-known Vineyard swimming club,

which trains at various venues across the

province.

AL.coms Robinson reported that Dun-

canwas chargedwith 18 counts of third-de-

gree burglary, quoting Birmingham poli-

ce spokesman, Lieutenant Sean Edwards.

A native of (Bellville), South Africa, the

college junior was arrested Monday (6

April) by Birmingham detectives. He re-

mains in the Jefferson County Jail today

with bond set at $180,000 bond, Robinson

quoted Edwards.

Campus police contacted Birmingham

police after the spate of break-ins between

March 13 and March 22, Edwards told the

reporter.

According to Robinson, Bonney actually

claimed to be one of the victims and staged

his dorm room to appear to have been bur-

gled. She reported that campus detectives

didnt buy Bonneys story of being a vic-

tim.

Robinson said the police investigation

showed Bonney stole the master key and

took textbooks, valuable calculators, wat-

ches and electronics. He was selling the

textbooks on websites that buy back the

class material. He was also selling the elec-

tronics mostly PlayStation and X-box on

eBay, Edwards told Robinson.

She reported that Bonney had an out-

standing swimming season last year, win-

ning various titles, including that of Male

Swimmer of the Year for the second season.

He is said to have won both the colleges

Newcomer and Swimmer of the Year

awards in 2013.

Duncan is a good youngman and has co-

operated fully with the investigating detec-

tive, Birmingham attorney Chris Daniel

told AL.com.

His family in South Africa have expres-

sed their complete support and we are wor-

king through the legal process together.

neys for comment, they refrained from

using the opportunity.

No comment, Su Bonney said, with

husband Gary reiterating with: We have

nothing to say to the media.

The Vineyard swimming club trains at a

number of swimming pools including that

of the Durbanville High School, the Bellvil-

le municipal pool, as well as at pools in the

Helderberg, Paarl and Rondebosch.

sal die polisie en die departement van ge-

meenskapsveiligheid ook binnekort verkie-

sings aankondig om hierdie nuwe komitee

ook vir die nuut gestigte Tygerberg-hoof-

kwartier aan te wys. Vir di doel sal daar

n nuwe voorsitter en komitee saamgestel

word vir die nuwe Tygerberg-groepering.

Blaauw het ook aangekondig dat, met die

onlangse registrasie van die Door de Kraal-

buurtwag, lke woonbuurt in die Bellville

polisie-wyk nou gedek is met n buurtwag.

n Totaal van 21 buurtwagte is nou by die

Bellville-GPF geregistreer.

Tans is nog net die Tygervallei-sakege-

bied uitstaande, maar aksies is reeds aan

die gang om ook hier n stadsverbeterings-

distrik te vestig, s Blaauw.

Polisiekantore eersdaags

Kunz Rousseau (77), geliefd veral by die ge-

wilde opskoppe in Bellville van die boere-

musiekgilde-tak in Kaapstad, het sy stryd

teen kanker verloor.

Di innemende en gevierde banjo-speler

en ondervoorsitter van di gilde-tak is Son-

dag om 11:00 oorlede.

Louis Hurter, streeksvoorsitter van die

Suid-Kaap-gilde, s Kunz laat met sy sterfte

n n lang siekbed, n reuse-leemte.

Kunz het n wye kennis van grondwetli-

ke sake en regulasies gehad, en was baie be-

trokke met die herskryf van die grondwet

van die Boeremusiekgilde.

Hywas ook jare lid van die LouisHurter-

boere-orkes en het n groot bydrae gelewer

toe hulle drie keer as nasionale wen-orkes

aangewys was.

Louis s Kunz is ook al as beste banjo-spe-

ler aangewys.

Vir sy bydrae tot boeremusiek is sy

naam ook aangebring op die Boeremusiek-

gilde se monument by Leeupoort. Hy het

ook in die verlede op dieOakdale-klub se ko-

mitee gedien en daar is selfs n saal na hom

vernoem. Hy gaan wyd gemis word.

Die begrafnisdiens is Vrydag om 11:00

vanuit die NG Kerk Bellville-Uitsig.

Een van die twee duikwe by die Bellville-

treinstasie is reeds geruime tyd gesluit en

n leser hetTygerBurger genader om te pro-

beer uitvind wanneer dit weer sal open.

Di leser s vele navrae oor die kwessie

aan die Passenger Rail Agency of South Af-

rica (Prasa) het egter onbeantwoord gebly.

Die duikweg naaste aan die Bellville

treinstasie se polisiekantoor is reedsmaan-

de lank gesluit, terwyl dit net vir n kort

rukkie gesluit sou gewees het, aldus die

pendelaar, David Virgin.

Hy meen die enigste ander duikweg die

een naaste aan Bellville-Suid, is oor-ge-

bruik en daar is gereeld n opeenhoping

van pendelaars wat almal hierdie enkele

duikweg moet gebruik om aan die Voor-

trekkerkant van die treinstasie uit te kom.

Dit raak n nagmerrie om te probeer om

op die platforms te kom of dit te verlaat,

s Virgin. Hy reken die enkele deurgang

hou n besonderse gevaar in die geval van

n brand in.

Dis veroorsaak veral n groot veilig-

heidsrisiko gedurende spitstye tussen 06:00

en 07:00 wanneer pendelaars van platform

2 na die Voortrekkerkant wil uit, en pende-

laars van daardie kant af weer op di plat-

form kom.

Riana Scott, Metrorail se woordvoerder,

het ges: Aldus Prasa (se afdeling) wat die

kontrakteurs bestuur, wag hlle vir twee

kritiese installasies onder meer tegnolo-

gie, sodat hulle kaartjies kan verkoop,

asook finale toegangsbeheer alvorens di

duikweg oopgestel kan word.

Die installering van di stelsels behoort

na raming sowat agt weke te neem, het

Scott op Maandag 13 April ges.

Motoriste wie se motors gereeld in die par-

keer-area in Bloemhofstraat geparkeer

staan, het verledeMaandag lelik onder boe-

Di gewilde parkeerplek, wat minstens

sowat 100 motors van nabygele kantoor-,

verkoops- en ander personeel bedags huis-

ves, is verlede week deur die Stad se wets-

toepassingseenheid aangevat.

Volgens Peter Lourens, hoofinspekteur

oor area-noord, is di kaartjies aandieniks-

vermoedendes uitgeskryf, omdat hulle op

die sypaadjie parkeer het.

Hoewel daar geen afmerkings op di oop

stuk geteerde grond is nie, en dit reeds jare

lank as parkeerplek gebruik word, meen

Lourens die padverkeersrels is duidelik

oor waar jy mg parkeer.

Daardie voertuie was almal op die sy-

paadjie geparkeer. Motoriste behoort be-

wus tewees van die padrels wat bepaal dat

jy nie binne 1,5 m van n pad mag parkeer

nie. Boonop was hulle in die verkeerde rig-

ting geparkeer, s Lourens.

Ongelukkig is daar mense wat stds

daar parkeer.Hulle het nog tweedae grasie.

Daar is reeds n opdrag uitgereik om vol-

gende week weer daar op te tree, het hy

ges. Een van die motoriste wat beboet is,

wou weet wr gaan ons dan parkeer?.

Die boetes beloop elkR300 en kan dispuut

word deur n brief te stuur na: Verkeers-

dienste, Privaatsak X19, Roggebaai 8012

Niksvermoedendes loop deur

Die Ridgeworth en Stellenridge-buurtwag

het op Saterdag 18 April sy eerste fondsin-

sameling gehou ten behoewe van sy kring-

televisie-projek.

Di buurtwag samel tans geld in om lisen-

sie-uitkenningskameras (LPR) te laat in-

stalleer.

(Die maatskappy) iTrack LPR het vir

ons die demonstrasie kom doen van die ka-

meras wat hulle gaan insit, het Myburgh

du Plessis, voorsitter, ges.

Hy s daar was baie belangstelling in die

buurt en die buurtwag het positiewe terug-

voer ontvang. Dit blyk almal daarwas gre-

tig om betrokke te raak.

In totaal kon die groep toe 300 boerewors-

rolle verkoop, asook koeldrank en koffie en

ander eetgoed.

Hy s vir n eerste poging is hulle dank-

baar vir die R5 300 wat in totaal vir die ka-

mera-projek ingesamel is.

Myburgh s hulle is steeds besig om die

bure te werf vir hul ondersteuning en by-

draes ten opsigte van die projek, en moedig

almal aan om betrokke te raak.

Kameras ook hier prioriteit

Baie mense uit die gemeenskap het gekom

om die projek te ondersteun ten bate van

lisensieuitkenningskameras vir die buurt.

Dromkrappers bly n groot hoofpyn op

vullisverwyderingsdae, en nou het hulle

ook begin om die materiaal in die Stad se

groen-deksel-herwinningsdromme te her-

win, maar vir eie gewin.

Opportuniste bedreig die Stad Kaapstad

se herwinningsinisiatief, s Pieter

Blaauw, voorsitter van die Bellville-ge-

meenskapspolisiringsforum (BGPF).

Hy s die Stad het by n onlangse vergade-

ring van dieBGPFgewaarsku teen opportu-

niste wat sy herwinningsinisiatief bedreig.

Dit is n paar jaar gelede ingestel om die

herwinning van huis-afval te bevorder.

Di bedreiging het ontstaan deurdat die

herwinningsmateriaal uit die herwin-

ningsdromme met die groen deksels ge-

plunder word deur haweloses met winkel-

trollies, wat nou hierdie nuttige bron ont-

dek het, s Blaauw.

Hierdie projek is deur die Stad in bedryf

gestel om die enorme hoeveelheid afval be-

ter te bestuur.

Hy s daar is in die herwinningsinisiatief

juis voorsiening gemaak om van die hawe-

loses van werk te voorsien in die Stad se

Waste Plan-projek.

Hierdie opportuniste se dade kan hier-

die goeie inisiatief verongeluk, meen

Blaauw.

Derhalwe is teenwoordiges aangemoe-

dig om hierdie dade by die Stad se wetstoe-

passingseenheid aan temeld ten einde hier-

die euwel te bekamp.

Groen dromme nou in visier

Hier is een van die sogenaamde dromkrap

pers besig om herwinningsmateriaal uit die

Stad se dromme vir homself te herwin.

Anxiety is a natural condition of life. If we

utilise our nervous energy, it can be a very

powerful motivating force to perform, to

reach deadlines, and not to be complacent

with the status quo. Life without some

anxiety is not life at all! However, anxiety

can, if not managed, become uncontrolled

and even turn into pathological anxiety that

can cause emotional difficulties (an

overwhelmed feeling, frequently feeling on

edge or frightened, burnout, irritability, or

evenpanic attacksor depression), cognitive

difficulties (overthinking, ambivalence and

impaired concentration), social impairment

(substance abuse and difficulties with

interpersonal relationships), or physical

difficulties (appetitedysregulation,sleeping

problems, excessive tiredness and

decreased immunity).

A panic attack is a sudden rush of

uncomfortable and unpleasant physical

symptoms (such as dizziness, shortness of

breath, or chest pain), together with

thoughts of impending doom (such as

making a scene, having a heart attack, or

losing one's mind). After a few of these

episodes, the individual can become

physically and psychologically tense in

preparationof thenextattack.

When you suffer from an anxiety disorder, it

is important to ensure a thorough

evaluation to confirm the diagnosis and

ident i fy st ressors and tr iggers . A

multidisciplinary and holistic treatment

approach is the most effective. Medication

is not always necessary and should be used

judiciously. Changing destructive thought

patterns and learning effective relaxation

techniques coupled with coping strategies

through psychotherapy is important.

Lifestyle changes such as regular exercise,

avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and certain

painkillers or fat burners; and a regular

sleeping pattern can also enhance one's

quality of life and reduce unnecessary levels

ofanxiety.

Oakglen-buurtwaghou jaarvergadering

With large numbers of foreign nationals liv-

ing in Tygerberg, two local organisations

have stood up against the xenophobic at-

tacks currently in the news.

TheGreater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP)

and Voortrekker Road Corridor Improve-

ment District (VRCID) have spoken out

against the inhumane attacks.

Chris OConnor (GTP CEO) and Derek

Bock (VRCID COO) in a joint statement said

their organisations represented a local com-

munity of diverse nationalities.

They saidmany Africans live and work in

the Bellville CBD and surrounding neigh-

bourhoods, and have lived in the country for

over a decade.

The GTP and VRCID support integration

of these communities into the Tygerberg re-

gion, and discourage any similar violent at-

tacks against these members of our commu-

nity.

As such we will support any initiatives

aimed at preventing such unacceptable ac-

tion, they said.

Both organisations work with representa-

tives from across the African communities.

Programmes include promoting affordable

housing, supporting the establishment of

business watch initiatives and the annual

HeritageFestival in September andOctober.

These programmes and events were

aimed at promoting the heritage and cul-

tures of the vibrant and unique communi-

ties that interact in the region.

The GTP and VRCID strongly condemn

the senseless and unjustified violence.

April. I recall some letters last

year and remember a group of

protesters with placards calling

for closure of the circus which

is again on tour.

I agree with some of your

remarks but not all. You have

your right to say what you

feel. I would like to ask if you

feel the same way, and would

write to all media here and in

South Africa to put a stop to

some of the following places of

amusement.

The Aquarium at the V&A

Waterfront. Think of all the

sealife in their glass tronke

and that magnificent shark

swimming round and round in

its tronk getting fed what its

given. The ocean where it

should be is possibly 100

metres away. Then we can go

to Hout Bay to the World of

Birds and see all those animals

in their tronke. They have

Black eagles and others there

mountains close by but cannot

soar to hunt and catch their

you that I am disputing a water

bill of over R7000.

I disagree with the statement

that a water meter cannot jump

and an intermittent fault would

water lodges in the counter

mechanism, when it dislodges,

the mechanism suddenly rotates

at high speed and can skip a

gear tooth without leaving any

evidence because the gear teeth

are plastic and the foreign

and it was finally discovered

that the geyser overflow pipe

was pouring directly into a

drain which was not easily

visible. A plumber sorted out

the geyser and solved the

problem and rerouted the

overflow pipe, but I had to pay

for the water wasted.

What message are we sending our

children when the top cop in the prov-

ince faces suspension after charges of

corruption are levelled at him?

Western Cape police commissioner

Arno Lamoer and three senior officers

appeared in court and are facing suspec-

sion on 109 counts including corruption,

money laundering and racketeering, with

a Cape businessman.

These are officers who, filling the

highest policing position in the province,

should be beyond reproach to the

extent that a parking ticket could not be

held to their names.

Yet daily we are faced with stories

about police officers flouting the law.

The very men and women who are

meant to protect us, are committing

crimes and endangering others.

Where are the days when becoming a

police officer was an honour, a calling for

only the bravest and most trustworthy?

Perhaps it has seeped in from our

society, where breaking the law is so

widespread it has become the norm.

How often do we think nothing of

jaywalking, driving after drinking or

keeping money found on the street?

We turn a blind eye to drug dealing

and gangsterism, quick to pull our

curtains closed or avert our faces.

We should not only hold our police

officers accountable, reporting their

failures to uphold the law, but also our

community members, friends and family.

The fight against corruption is the

responsibility of each and every one of

us.

What do theCity, four robots and their cam-

eras have in common?Well, sewerage, of all

things.

This was at the heart of a media briefing

last Wednesday when the Citys mayco

member for utility services, Ernest Son-

nenberg, officially launched the first of four

robotic crawlers at theWater Technical Op-

erations Centre (WTOC) in Bellville.

This new staff member of ours will get

some brothers and sisters very soon, Son-

nenberg said about the other robots being

assembled in Germany.

The new robot is simply referred to as

robotic crawler for the function it will

perform: scouring the Citys piping infra-

structure for faults and obstructions, not

unlike a medical endoscopy.

We couldnt call him Wall-e that

names already taken by our water mas-

cot, Sonnenberg joked.

You can send the camera in at least

400 metres deep, he said of theR2.4 million

four-wheelers.

The remote-controlleddevices eachcarry

a 10 x optical zoom and 12 x digital zoom

camera that transmit the robots under-

ground footage to a linked computer.

The data obtained by the crawlers will be

sent to a central database containing infor-

mation on a number of linked pipe net-

works.

Gavin Nunn, South African distributor

of the robotic crawler technology and

crawler operator, said all the robots parts

are interdependent.

He said different combinations of the

crawler would be used for different-sized

pipes.

A project manager for the robot tender

said the system was waterproof up to one

bar pressure.

Through a hand-held tablet, one can see

the amount of dirt and cracks in a pipe, as

well as joint displacements, Deen Willi-

ams said.

He said the hand-held controller would

give the operator full control over all the

crawlers camera functions, making it easy

to manoeuvre inside the pipes.

Sonnenberg added that at a cost of about

R300 000 to fix a burst pipe, the crawlers

were an investment.

This investmentwill see significant sav-

ings in the years to come as the crawlerwill

assist the city in doing proactive mainte-

nance, Sonnenberg said.

The northern suburbs have of late been

under siege from burst pipes as infrastruc-

tural integrity of the systemhas beenweak-

ened by age.
