THE ETERNAL GOD King David wished that the ark of God might have a more permanent home. David may have envisioned something like the cedar palace where he resided. God had in mind something more: a throne where David's descendants would rule for ever, a kingdom where Jews and Gentiles alike would be welcome. Mary's prayerful nature led to an even more disturbing message. She would conceive and bear a Son though she was not yet married. "How can this come about?" Mary wondered. "The Holy Spirit will come upon you," she was told (Luke 1:35). Mary's acceptance of this difficult challenge ushered in this, the final age of God's reign. What was once a secret known only by chosen people like King David and his descendants must now be made clear to all so that, as Saint Paul wrote to the Romans, we can be brought to the "obedience of faith" "according to the command of the eternal God" (Romans 16:26). RECORDATORIO MUY ESPECIAL

Seventh grade giving...Congratulations to our 7th grade class who spent the month of October creating and implementing a service project from scratch. The class created and sold buttons with the Beatitudes on them. They raised enough money to purchase four chickens, one goat, one bucket of clean water, 60 fruit trees, and five pairs of shoes for a community in Haiti. What a wonderful way to put your faith into action -- great job, seventh grade! Free Tuition or $2500!...Once again, Parent Club is hosting our It's Hip to Be Square contest in which school families can win free tuition for a year or non-school families can win $2,500. Squares are $100 each and can be split between families. All pro-ceeds from the board goes directly to the purchase of a Smartboard. This contest is open to EVERYONE! The square board will alternate between parishes each week. This weekend the board is at St. Joseph, and next weekend the board will be at St. Charles Borromeo. For more information and to read the official rules, visit www.hfcatholic.org. Meet our faculty...Mrs. Janet DeBartolo is the 8th grade homeroom teacher and the 5th-8th grade math teacher. Mrs. DeBartolo has taught for over 15 years. She joined St. Charles Borromeo in 2000 and has been teaching mathematics, pre-algebra, and algebra at the middle-school level. She holds a BA degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois Chicago with a Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership from Roosevelt University, and is Illinois-certified in elementary education for grades K-9.

Qualities of a Holy Family “When the magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.’” -Matt 2:13a

Reflection: A father, a mother, a child! A family com together for the long haul, be the weather fair or foul. And we have here a “holy” family for it was love that empowered Joseph to assume his heavy responsi-bility of protecting and providing for Mary and Jesus. It was God’s love that enabled Mary to continue her life of obedience and self-giving. It was the Spirit of love that Jesus made manifest in his concern for his parents and the whole world. St. Paul reminds us that a family and a community need to be holy. The apostle to the Gentiles writes: “Put on, as kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a griev-ance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do” (Col 3:12-13). He then goes on to proclaim that love is the bond of perfection that holds everything together. Living in close proximity is no easy task. We step on each others’ toes; we can so eas-ily be inattentive to others; we are bothered by various eccentricities. Without the presence of the Holy Spirit to assist us, we los patience, become hard of heart, and even bitter. Family life, meant to be holy and life-giving, turns into an atmosphere of negativity and discord. St. Paul gives us a secret in all of this: be grateful for the blessings given and welcome Christ to dwell deep within us.

Meditation: What do you have to contribute to fam-ily life? What qualities do you consider to be essential for a family to be holy? What advice would you give to a newly married couple regarding how they can fos-ter a holy family?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you lived with Mary and Joseph for so many years. You shared with them your joys

and sorrows, your dreams and hopes. Help us to become communities of deep sharing and love. Empower us to be holy and compassionate. Send your Spirit into our hearts and into the heart of our families. Daily Rflections for advent & Christmas-Liturgical Press

"Woman's Choice Services (WCS) was founded in 2005 as a concrete response to the need in our communities for real options and true choices. At Woman's Choice Services we open doors for women who believe them to be shut. Those women who may feel alone, abandoned, scared, or pressured; they may feel they don't have a choice. By providing vital counseling and resources Woman's Choice Services helps women to see that they have a real choice for themselves. Our mission is to provide outreach, counseling and referrals to create a culture where no preg-nant woman will feel forced to have an abor-tion, to provide support for those women who decide to have their babies and to help in heal-ing for those who have been personally im-pacted by abortion." Please spread the news about Woman’s Choice Ser-vices. Thank you for promoting life at all stages and prayerfully supporting our women who come through the doors of WCS, in Lombard and Crest Hill.
