MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions for November

Universal: COUNTRIES RECEIVING REFUGEES That the countries which take in a great number of displaced persons and refugees may find support for their efforts which show solidarity.

Evangelization: COLLABORATION OF PRIESTS AND LAITY That within parishes, priests and lay people may collaborate in service to the community, without giving in to the temptation of discouragement.

Peace and good! As we reflect upon the mystery of death during this month of Remembrance – All Souls, I would like to share the following insights regarding the mystery of death. Pope Francis shared:

The Commemoration of the deceased has this twofold sense. A sense of sadness: a cemetery is sad, it reminds us of our dear ones who have gone, it reminds us also of the future, death, but in this sadness, we carry flowers, as a sign of hope, I can even say of celebration, but further on, not now. And the sadness is mixed with hope. And this is what all of us feel today in this celebration: the memory of our dear ones, before their mortal remains, and hope. We return home today with this twofold memory: the memory of the past, of our dear ones that have gone, and the memory of the future, of the path we shall tread – with the certainty, the security; that certainty that issued from the lips of Jesus: “I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:40) (http://www.zenit.org/english)

Let us join our prayers together as we do at each Mass of Christian Burial and Committal:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon them. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Help "Keep Christ in Christmas" by sending religious cards - an evangelization message from you! Cards will be available for immediate pickup and orders delivered at subsequent week-end masses. If you have any questions contact Jeff Sander at [email protected].

Thanksgiving Day Mass is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (There will be no 6:30 or 8:00 a.m. Masses, so that we all offer Thanks to God in a larger community setting.) We all have so much to be thankful for, for family, friends, and food, as well as for the countless other blessings God has given us. So please, feel free to bring something from your Thanksgiving table to be blessed. I’ve seen salt and pepper, rolls, desserts or wine brought forth. Tables will be near the sanctuary and after the homily the friars will bless the food. Don’t forget to take your food home after Mass and share the blessing with your family.

Music Ministry Advent /Christmas Notes

During the Advent season we will use the Mass parts from the Mass of Spirit and Grace which can be found in the music issue starting at # 926 in the Music Issue. We will sing # 927 for the Mystery of Faith which be-gins with the words: “ We Proclaim….” The Gloria is not sung during the season of Advent except on the feast days of Mary on Dec. 8 and Dec. 12. Christmas Eve the Gloria is brought back and is sung until Lent begins.

We will use the same Advent Gospel Acclamation we used last year which has a melody based on “ O Come, O Come Emmanuel”.

For additional information on the music check out the Music ministry website at: www.mamusicstudio.com.

Jubilee of Mercy As the Catholic Church concludes its commemoration of the Year of Mercy on November 20, 2016, we are reminded that we are sharers in God’s mercy. The month of days and holidays of November invite us to re-flect on the moments of closure. Thanksgiving Day is a time to look back: What am I grateful for? What good things have I experienced since a year ago? The Solemnity of Christ the King ends the liturgical cycle before we begin again with the First Sunday of Advent. This year, the Solemnity of Christ the King, on November 20, concludes the Jubilee Year of Mercy. May we continue to respond to God’s grace and gift of conver-sion in our lives.
