IEEE Student Branch at Poornima University, Jaipur

The IEEE Student Branch has been opened under Advanced Studies & Research Center (ASRC) of the

Poornima University vide welcome letter dated 22 June 2016 having Student Branch

code STB1014 and School Code is 60108724. The basic objective of opening this branch under ASRC

has been to further open different Society Chapters in var ious departments of the University thereby

involving all Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students and faculty in IEEE activities and awareness

through conduction of Technical Seminars, Workshops, Conferences and other technical & cultural

activities leading to promotion of IEEE and advancement of technology in right perspective. At present

there are more than 90 IEEE Student Members and more than 15 Professional members under the

branch.

About the Speakers

Maria Ganzha System Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences Warsaw, Poland

Maria Ganzha is an Associate Professor in the System Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences;

SRIPAS). She has an MS and a PhD degrees in Mathematics from the Moscow State University, Russia,

and a Doctor of Science degree (in Computer Science) from the Polish Academy of Sciences. Maria has

published more than 150 research papers, is on editorial boards of 6 journals and a book series, and was

invited to program committees of more than 150 conferences. She is also the Principal Investigator, of

the SRIPAS team, in the INTER-IoT project. Here, her team is responsible for use of semantic

technologies in the context of interoperability of IoT platforms

Marcin Paprzycki

Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland

Marcin Paprzycki is an associate professor at the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of

Sciences. He has an MS from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, a Ph.D. from Southern

Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and a D.Sc. Degree from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He

is a senior member of IEEE, a senior member of ACM, a Senior Fulbright Lecturer, and an IEEE CS

Distinguished Visitor. He has contributed to more than 450 publications and was invited to the program

committees of over 500 international conferences. He is on the editorial bo ards of 12 journals and a

book series.

Talk 1: Introduction to Semantic Technologies

Dr. Maria Ganzha started her session with the

fundamental concepts, advantages and

limitations of Semantic Technologies. She

discussed in details about Ontologies as data

models on the Semantic Web. She also discussed

the RDF framework and associated technologies

such as RDFa and SPARQL. She gave

information about Web Ontology Language

(OWL), OWL sublanguages and OWL2 profiles.

She discussed that Linked Data lies at the heart

of the Semantic Web: lare scale integration of,

and reasoning on , data on the web.(W3C).

Linked Data is a set of principles that allows

publishing, querying and browsing of RDF data,

distributed across different servers. She talked

about Linked Data design principles and Linked

data evolution. Lastly, she also discussed about Semantic Databases and its design & Implementation

Introduction to Actors, Agents, Assistants & Avatars

Dr. Marcin Paprzycki explained ongoing

research in a virtual reality environment where

visitors can interact with agents that help them

to obtain information, to perform certain

transactions and to collaborate with them in

order to get some tasks done.

He further added that in a multi-user version of

the system visitors can chat with each other.

He discussed standards that are under

development for designing such environments.

He further explained the different researchers

attempts to let this environment evolve into a

theatre community where we do not only have

goal-directed visitors buying tickets, but also

visitors that that are not yet sure whether they

want to buy or just want information or visitors

who just want to look around, talk with others,

etc. He further added that we need a multi-user

and multi-agent environment to realize our

goals and that we need to have a unifying framework in order to be able to introduce and maintain

different agents and user avatars with different abilities, including intellectual, interaction and animation

abilities.
