Under the most able and intellectual stewardship of our learned Chairperson Prof. S.M. Seth, members of PJF Advisory Board and Board of Management of Poornima University, it has been our sincere endeavor to develop proper system of learning in the university, which can promote brilliance and enable us to develop trust, fairness, respect and accountability among all the stakeholders.

This along with our motto of “YOUR DREAMS OUR GOALS” has contributed to remarkable growth in all fronts through systematic well-structured and focused goal oriented philosophy, processes and actions. PU takes students as they are and makes them industry ready employable youth and launches them on the path of career growth and success which can be measured by the placement of first two batches of MBA and one batch of BCA, BBA.

The University presently has six schools namely School of Engineering and

Technology, School of Architecture & Planning, School of Management, School of Commerce, School of Design and School of Basic and Applied Sciences. The state of the art research facilities and modern amenities like well stocked libraries along with project centers create a conducive environment for teaching - learning process. The University is committed to bring about perceptible change in society with its innovative and equitable practices and systems.

As we are aware that the challenge before the educationists today is to channelize the intelligent, creative and enthusiastic youth of the country into the nation building process. We strongly believe that right mix of education focusing on head, heart and hand can substantially help in meeting this challenge. The need therefore is to

  • reorient education that concentrates on the development of right attitude, knowledge and skill set of the students and that is what we are concentrating upon here.

Presently the University is running 7 branches of engineering having 4 year degree courses in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science with Cloud Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Our most ambitious program of higher studies and research has also come a long way in a very short span of time with lot of success. The University has

  • established a very high reputation for our master’s and doctoral programs due to emphasis on hard core academics and research oriented activities.

Based on the publications brought out by the students and the faculty members of the University in last three years, a compilation in two volumes has been brought out this year comprising of about 200 papers. • Appendix 4 CHANCELLOR’S ADDRESS

    (Dr. S.M. Seth) (3rd Convocation at PU–24.09.2016)

Chief Guest of this convocation ceremony Padma Shri Madhu Pandit Dasa Ji, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Bhatia, Members of the Board of Management, Deans of Schools, Members of Academic Council, Degree Recipients, Faculty, Staff, Students and above all distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Morning! I extend a warm welcome to all of you to Third Convocation of Poornima University. It is special honour for us to have an inspiring role model, a globally sought after speaker the originator of great NGO ‘Askhaya Patra’, IIT Engineer Padma Shri Madhu Pandit Dasaji as our Chief Guest on this memorable occasion. I also welcome Waterman, winner in 2015 of the Stockholm Water Prize, also known as "the Nobel Prize for Water", Shri Rajendra Singhji who will be honoured today with the award of Honoris Causa Doctorate Degree of Poornima University and all our distinguished guests and well-wishers. I am very happy to be here before this distinguished audience and the 627 scholars and students who are graduating today. I also extend a very special welcome to these bright stars of this ceremony today– It is because of them that we are gathered here. I also warmly welcome the parents, family members, friends of the graduating students and colleagues who have joined us on this memorable occasion. The graduation ceremony is the most awaited and significant occasion in any University’s calendar. It is a moment of pride for the graduating students as much as it is for their teachers, parents and those who had any part in shaping their lives so far. Today is a very special day for this University, as the first batch of B.Tech. students shall be graduating to realize their dreams and we are fortunate that the Convocation Address will also be delivered by an engineer. The last four years have been remarkable for this University. I am particularly happy that not only is this University a young university, but it is also fresh and youthful in terms of vigor, ideas and directions. On this special day let me complement our faculty members across all schools who are working very hard to make sure that the vision with which this University was started, sees the light of the day. The fruits of the team’s toils have started to become visible as the University was awarded as the “Best Upcoming University-2016” by ASSOCHAM at their 9th Higher Education Summit-2016 held in New-Delhi. Now a few words, to the BCA, B.Com, B.Com Honours, BBA, B.Tech, MBA, M.Tech, and PhD degree recipients. My heartiest congratulations to you all who are receiving their degrees across various courses and disciplines – Congratulations, you have done very well and deserve to celebrate today. Convocations mark a transition in an individual’s life. I would like to particularly congratulate two awardees of PhD Degree Nupur Jain and

  • Anurika Mehta and also the awardees and parents of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, SES Gold Medal, the Gold Medal and the Silver Medal.

You all are also entering a world, which is exciting as well as challenging. The world you inherit is beset with great challenges. Change is upon us – if we want it or not. Yet – you have the greatest opportunity in generations: to be the architects and builders of a new world. Drucker was the master in bringing things to the point – “you cannot manage change, you must get ahead of it” – first in your minds and then in your practice and your lives. You will have purpose like no generation before you. They say that institutions can’t build the future of the young, but they can build the young for the future. At Poornima we have equipped you fully with skills and tools to deal with this challenge most confidently. Today marks an important day in your lives – yet, it is a beginning of a journey. To get to this point was an important achievement in itself to which I commend you. The personal competencies that got you here – passion, commitment, tenacity, open minds to learn – will be important throughout your lives. Nurture them. They will be even more important than what you have learned. ई वर का दया कभी अ प नह ंहोता, जो टूट जाये वो संक प नह होता हार को ल य से दूर ह रखना, य क जीत का कोई वक प नह ंहोता There is a final point I would like to make though – to live fulfilling lives in this new emerging world and to become an architect of the future, you need to know yourselves. And you need to be ready to reinvent yourself throughout your lives –I wish you the best for your lives – embrace the challenges and get ahead of the change. Find your purpose and take your share in shaping the new world. Become creators of the future. You can do it and my best wishes are with you. My friends, there is great news for you. India is becoming a land of huge opportunity. Let me end by saying that it was always great to be an Indian. But now, it is great to be in India. Let's all come to this and celebrate thanking all those that have gone before us and pledging ourselves to continue this wonderful tradition in even new ways. Whatever choice you make, as graduates of this University, you represent the values and principles this University stands for. The Sanskrit phrase on the University’s logo – ‘ ानम बना न कम प सा यम’ (Without knowledge nothing is possible) is our guiding beacon. I believe

you all shall become good ambassadors of the University and shall always strive for the pursuit of knowledge. Be grateful to your families, your teachers, mentors and everyone elsewho have sacrificed a lot to ensure that this day becomes a reality. As you celebrate today, be grateful for all the support that you have received, and go out into the world as a transformed individual, equipped with new knowledge and skills, willing to share and give back. It is our duty as civilized, patriotic Indians to protect our environment to ensure sustainability and leave a better future for our future generations. Dear Degree Recipients, I would like to quote E.O. Wilson - "You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. The world needs all you can give."

  • I congratulate Dr.Bhatia, Vice Chancellor and all officers, faculty members, staff and students of Poornima University for successful organization of this third convocation in a meticulous manner. I would like to express our gratitude to Trustees of Shanti Education Society for providing all moral as well as financial support all along. I congratulate all the degree and medal recipients. In all the ups and downs; highs and lows that you shall witness going forward, may God grant you wisdom, success and true sense of fulfillment of your dreams and goals. May the education you have received here serve not just your lives but our country and society well in the years to come. May your lives be richly rewarding and fulfilling, and may you enjoy much happiness. Congratulations and good luck. I am grateful to all the distinguished ladies and gentlemen who are here with us at this convocation. Dear Degree Recipients, finally I would like to conclude with the following couplet काम करना ऐसा क पहचान बन जाओ, हर क़दम चलना ऐसा क नशान बन जाओ िज़ दगी तो सभी काटते ह दो त , तुम िज़ दगी ऐसे जीना क मसाल बन जाओ

Jai Jai Poornima Sansthan! Jai Hind!

CONVOCATION ADDRESS (By CHIEF GUEST – SH. MADHU PANDIT DASA)

    On 24th September, 2016)

Respected Sri S M Sethji, Sri KKS Bhatiaji, Dr. Rajendra Singhji and all the respected academicians on the Dias and dear students.

Good morning to all of you.

I am pleased to be here today which is a special day for all of you. It is a special day for you because you are being decorated with a degree. A special day for you because your hard work and sacrifice to study has been crowned with success.

You are today tasting the good feeling of success of a major milestone of your life. Now that you have completed a major milestone of your life you are at the cross roads of life with a big question before you. What next?

So far in your student life, from childhood it has been a life of more of 'taking' than that of 'giving'. Taking from society, taking from parent, taking from the family, taking from teachers. Now, for the rest of your life it is your turn to start to do what. Say loudly. It is for 'giving' service to the people. Please repeat loudly. Life is for 'giving'.

Educating men and women is successful only if we can turn out individuals who learn to give to the society, many times multiplied what they have taken from society. Progressively giving back to their family , giving back to their children, give back to the society, giving back to their country and give back to the world and most important giving back to God in service of humanity. God who has given us this body, families, our society or nation and our world to live in.

Seva is the dharma of the soul. Nobody can escape Seva. One is constantly serving the demand of his body and senses or the family or the society or the nation or the world or God Himself. Just as light and heat is dharma of fire, Seva is dharma of the soul. Seva is about sharing oneself, ones abilities and ones possessions with others for their needs though not for others greed.

Today I am going to talk something that you don't learn formally in universities. It is about the needs and greed’s. We have needs. Our family has needs. Our society has

  • needs. Our nation has needs and our world has needs. But greed is a creation of our mind. It is not an objective need.

If you draw a circle of needs around your bodily self, a circle of needs around your family, a circle of needs around your society, a circle of needs around the nation, a circle of needs around the world and circle of concern around God you will discover that each of these circles of needs grow bigger and bigger. And smaller circles are included in the bigger circles. The smallest circle of needs is the needs my once own body and senses. And the biggest circle will be the circle of concern around God.

God does not have a circle of need but he has a circle of concern. And that circle of concern around God is the concern for the wellbeing and happiness of all living entities in this world. The circle of 'need' of everyone is respectable. But if we were to draw a circle of greed of people, family, society and nation then it is not at all respectable. It is selfish and is not supported sustainable.

The largest circle is called selfless circle of devotional service to God and humanity. That is obviously the highest Seva for the entire life on earth. Vasuda Eva kutumbakam. Vasudha means earth Eva means only and kutumbakam means family.

The goal of life is move ones Seva domain into bigger and bigger circles of needs. Perfection of life is to attain the seva in the circle concern of God, which is to do Seva for the wellbeing and happiness of all living entities on earth. The happiness one derives in life progressively increase as one moves his one's more and more Seva into bigger and bigger circles. This is real success in life of a human being according to the spiritual traditions of our great country. Please make it your ambition in life to attain Seva in bigger and bigger circles and reach the biggest circle of working for wellbeing of happiness of everyone.

Please note that I said that only the circles of needs are respectable and not the circle of greed around individuals, families, societies nations and the world. There is no philosophy of life that exists which can harmonize the circle of greed of man, family, society, nation or the world. Such a life is unsustainable. The earth cannot sustain such a life. Nature is designed to react negatively to such abuse of earth and its resources at individual level as well as at family, society and nation or global level. And that is exactly what is happening to this world today. The world is moving at a dangerous pace of greed.

Today the common man of this world has become a victim of consumerism through advertisement in converting so many things in life from being an item of greed to a need. This is the phenomenon of consumerism that has grabbed this country.

  • Consumerism in west which exists for decade did not create a better western society of better and happier human beings. Now Indians are following the western life style blindly in the name of progress.

And that is the reason why in spite of so much of material progress in technology, an average man of today is unhappy than a man even ten years back. Technology has changed everything on this earth except two things which remain as old as before. Birth and death.

According to the world happiness report 2016 prepared by sustainable development solutions network , a global initiative of United Nations the rate of decline of happiness, India takes a place lower than China, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh and even Somalia.

What has created this situation? It is ignorance of the divine nature of the self. Each one of us is divine. Divine means godly. When I say 'you' I don't mean your body which is just a sophisticated machine. 'You' means the soul in this body. The real 'you' is the residing and travelling in this body in a journey from birth to death. The real 'you' never dies. When you realize you are divine, your desires and interests will be divine and your power to fulfil those desires too will be divine. This would include divinizing your material life too. If you think you are only the body, your divinity is lost.

This body is a machine. How can you reduce yourself to be just a sophisticated machine? A machine of flesh and bones. You are much more than that. If you think ignorantly that you are the body, they will have only body desires and bodily power and that is what today's ignorant world is all about.

When your forget that you are divine you think you are only this body then the quality of experience of life will be closer to animal life and your powers to fulfill those desires are limited by your own karma.

What is my real divine nature? What is this divine power? What is nature of God? The answers to these questions are available in our ancient scripture and the summary of which is revealed in Bhagavad Gita. I advise you to never stop asking questions and you will find all the answers to the fundamental questions of life through study of Bhagavad Gita As it is by

Realizing ones divine nature is not to earn divine power to exploit material energy more.

  • Real divinity is to realize the self-knowledge as to who we are beyond this body and to guide ourselves to live a life in this body harmonious with the principles of nature designed by the creator.

Education basically teaches man to think for himself more than giving him domain knowledge. For fifteen years you all have been trained to think. Learning is about questions and answers. In your student life most of the questions and answers were given to you. Rest of your life you have to now ask relevant questions and find answers. You should never stop asking questions. You should go on asking questions to point of who am I? Why was I born? Where will I go after death? What is the purpose of life?

Don't think that if I ask these questions of life I will become a sadhu and leave material life. That is a stupid logic. It is just like saying if I hear the knowledge of nutrition from a nutritionist for my good health then I will become a nutritionist. For everyone to become sadhu is not the goal of life and it is not goal of engineering education to make engineering professors. A few engineers will become professors. Some will become sadhus if it is their calling life. Sadhus are like spiritual nutritionist. They will tell you how to feed and take care of your soul while you are a professional, while you are a family man, while you are a politician or anything in life. Take their association to learn how to care for your soul in whatever position you are in life.

I implore you to ask questions about modern way of life. Think independently as to its sustainability. Don't take for granted and think that all is well with this world and the way it is moving. If not all, at least some of you will become lead thinkers of this country.

I congratulate all of you once again and pray that you all succeed in making a meaningful life of your future guided by God of your own religion. I want to end with a piece of advice that you start your day by remembering God seeking guidance and end you day with gratitude to God. Success in life happens by the combination of man’s effort and God's grace. God helps those who help themselves.

    Hare Krishna.

    Thank you all.
