REPORT ON NATURAL WATER CONSERVATION

Department of Civil engineering (PU) organized 5 days Awareness Campaign on

Natural Water Conservation, with special emphasis on Rainwater Harvesting,

Watershed Management and Water Purification done by water Club,

“BOOND in different schools across the city of Jaipur. This program was

coordinated by Ms. Ramaa Singh, HOD, department of Civil Engineering. The

activities of this program were supervised by Dr. Tarakeshwar Senapati, Mr. Vivek

Gupta, Mr. Pawan Sharma & Mr. Dhiraj Agarwal .

Without water, life is not possible on the earth. We totally rely on water for public

health and equitable progress. It is essential for food and energy security, and it

underpins the functioning of industries. Our Water Club Members took the vow

and have accepted the challenge to make the people, especially the student

community, understand the importance of water conservation. For this purpose, the

Water Club Members visited ten schools across the city of Jaipur. They gave

presentation of the different methods of water conservation with special reference

to rainwater harvesting, watershed management & water purification. A quiz

contest was also conducted in every school relating to different water issues in the

schools. The winners of the contest from each school were felicitated in the closing

ceremony of the program on 20th July-2015 at Poornima University.

On the opening ceremony of this program, all the dignitaries imparted their

valuable knowledge regarding water crisis around the globe. At the beginning of

the program, Ms. Ramaa Singh briefed the audience about the activities of the

awareness campaign. Dr. K.K.S. Bhatia, President, Poornima University, shared

his precious experience with the audience regarding water issues. Dr. Manoj

Gupta, Provost & Dean, Poornima University, with his inspirational talk, gave a

special pledge to the students on the efficient use and conversion of water. The

Chief Guest of this ceremony was Mr. S. L. Mathur, Chief Engineer, Water

Resources Planning Department, Govt. of Rajasthan. In his expert talk, he

enlightened the audience about the importance of water conservation in Rajasthan.

He informed the audience that, in India the use of water is 10% for domestic

purpose, about 80-85% for agricultural purposes, and about 5% for Industrial

purposes. Therefore, his emphasis was on the conservation of water in all the

aspects. This water conservation campaign was highly praised by him. Mr. Rakesh

Koushik, Sr. Engineer, Water Resources Planning, Govt. of Rajasthan was the

Special Guest of this program. Dr. R. P Rajoria, Chief mentor and advisor,

Poornima Foundation also shared his precious knowledge with the audience.

The Chief Guest of the Closing Ceremony was Dr. Manohar Singh Rahore,

Director, Centre for Environment and Development Study, Jaipur (Rajasthan). Mr.

Rathore interacted with the audience and threw light on the ways and means to

save water. He stressed on the fact that the a proper study and research must be

conducted before visiting a village, as every village has a different type of water

need and that some villages in India have good water level and some don’t. Hence,

it is important to know beforehand the type of awareness to be spread in villages to

have a fruitful and steady impact.
