We offer learning opportunities that fit your busy schedule with evening and weekend courses and workshops, and online options. Whether for personal enjoyment or professional development, we offer new skills and creative explorations for the mind, body and spirit.

With professional instruction, small class and excellent facilities, you are sure to find courses that are both stimulating and fun.

We offer both non-credit classes for Personal and Professional Development and credit classes through Open Studies.

Continuing Education is about life-long learning.

Test-drive some of our credit classes, get a head start on your credential or take a few classes for personal interest in our Open Studies Section (page 15). There are no admission criteria for Open Studies classes; however you are required to meet all applicable prerequisites and co-requisites.

Apply to Open StudiesFirst-time Open Studies students must apply online at ApplyAlberta.ca and pay a one-time application fee before enrolling. Students are sent a Network ID and password. These are used to login, enrol and pay tuition online at www.myMacEwan.ca through the student portal. Students who have taken a credit class at MacEwan University in the past do not need to apply and can enrol directly at myPortal.Macewan.ca. If your Network ID login is not active, call 780-497-5000 to have your account re-activated.

Online | Using your network ID and password go to MacEwan.ca. Select the myPortal login at the top of the page, enter myStudentSystem, Student Centre to enrol with VISA/Mastercard/debit.

Withdrawals | To withdraw from a course in person, complete, sign and submit a withdrawal form to the Office of the University Registar. Withdrawal forms are available from all Information Centres or the Office of the University Registar. To withdraw by phone contact the Office of the University Registar at 780-497-5000. Contact the Office of the University Registar to be advised of the last day for withdrawal from a credit course without academic penalty. Students are held responsible for courses in which they are registered, until they formally withdraw within the deadline dates. Non-attendance, stop payment on a cheque, notifying the instructor or ceasing to attend lectures does not constitute withdrawal from a course. A $20 processing fee is charged for all withdrawals. For more information on withdrawal dates and refunds see MacEwan.ca/refunds.

Cancellations | MacEwan reserves the right to cancel classes that do not reach minimum enrolment requirements. If the class for which you have registered is cancelled, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded.

Tax receipts for tuition are available online at myPortal.MacEwan.ca. 2014 tax receipts are available by the end of February 2015. 2015 tax receipts are available by the end of February 2016. Art Fundamentals: Introduction to Art and Portfolio PreparationThis introductory course covers the principles of drawing, sculpture and design for students preparing fine art portfolios, and those interested in an introduction to the visual arts. Projects focus on: essentials of composition and formal unity; drawing skills and materials; figure drawing: observation, anatomy and proportion; achieving depth, volume and space. Design Fundamentals and Portfolio PreparationDevelop skills in two-dimensional design and understand the communicative importance of form and composition. Composition Essentials“A well-composed painting is half done.” Pierre Bonnard. Strong composition is the backbone of art in any subject matter or medium. Good composition unites technique, skill and inspiration. Strengthen your understanding of composition while applying these principles to a range of subject matter from still life and landscape to the figure. Drawing the PortraitExplore the expressive potential of portraiture using a range of drawing materials, techniques and styles. Exploring the Basics of Realistic DrawingUnderstand the methods and materials to make realistic drawings while working from photographs. Draw a variety of subjects from portraits to animals to figures. The Alberta College Conservatory of Music has been enriching musical education in the Edmonton community since 1903.

Whether you are seeking a self-paced approach to instruction or are a more serious musician preparing for performance opportunities or examinations, our exceptional teacher-performers can guide your music education. We offer Private Music Lessons, Courses, Ensembles, Music in Early Childhood and special events such as the Fall Music Festival.

The Fall Music Festival was created by music teachers, to encourage and guide musical understanding and performance skills in musicians of all ages. The festival is held November 19 to 22 with a gala concert on November 15 at 2 p.m. and a student concert on November 29 at 2 p.m.. Over $5000 in scholarships will be awarded to participants.
