Fall and winter are the time to discover new avenues of expression, improve on skills and talents, and broaden personal and professional development. Arts Continuing Education offers students a wide range of classes, professional instruction and excellent facilities.

We offer a range of learning options including day, evening and weekend classes, part-time study and online delivery.

For your life-long learning we offer noncredit classes for Personal and Professional Development and credit classes through Open Studies.

Open Studies (University Credit)If you want to test-drive some of our credit classes, get a head start on your credential or take a few classes for personal interest, then browse through our Open Studies Section (page 15) to see what’s available. There are no admission criteria for Open Studies classes; however you are required to meet all applicable prerequisites and co-requisites.

Apply to Open StudiesFirst time Open Studies students must apply online at www.ApplyAlberta.ca and pay an application fee before enrolling. You should apply at least five days prior to the start of any class. Students are sent a Network ID and password. These are used to login, enrol and pay tuition online at www.myMacEwan.ca.

Students who have taken a credit class at MacEwan University in the past do not need to apply and can enrol directly through the student portal. If your Network ID login is not active, call 780-497-5000 to have your account re-activated.

Withdrawals | To withdraw from a course in person, complete, sign and submit a withdrawal form to the Registrar’s Office. Withdrawal Forms are available from all Information Centres or the Registrar’s Office. To withdraw by phone contact the Registrar’s Office at 780-497-5000. Contact the Registrar’s Office to be advised of the last day for withdrawal from a credit course without academic penalty. Students are held responsible for courses in which they are registered, until they formally withdraw within the deadline dates. Non-attendance, stop payment on a cheque, notifying the instructor or ceasing to attend lectures does not constitute withdrawal from a course. A $20 processing fee is charged for all withdrawals. Art Fundamentals: Introduction to Art and Portfolio PreparationThis introductory course covers the principles of drawing, sculpture and design for students preparing fine art portfolios, and those interested in a general introduction to the visual arts. Using a range of media, projects focus on: the essentials of composition and formal unity; drawing skills and materials; figure drawing with a focus on observation, anatomy and proportion; achieving depth, volume and space in two-dimensional work. German for SingersThis course is designed to help singers as well as language students to acquire a mastery of German diction. UPCOmINg CONCERTS AT THE CONSERvATORy OF mUSIC

The Midday Music at Muttart Hall Concert Series is on Thursdays from 12:10 - 12:50 pm on October 24, 31, November 7, March 6, 13, 20 and May 22. Come experience exquisitely beautiful music presented in a relaxed and inviting manner. Bring a lunch!

The Fall Music Festival Gala Concert will be held on Saturday, November 16 at 2 pm and the Fall Music Festival Student Concert will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 2 pm. Come celebrate the musical accomplishments of the festival participants.

The AIMTAC Scholarship Concert will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 2 pm and will feature Conservatory Faculty performers with all proceeds to support student scholarships.

The Connections Concert Series is presented on Sundays at 2 pm on March 23, May 25 and July 6 and features emerging student musicians and esteemed faculty from the Conservatory. A reception follows. Come support classical music.

The Alberta College Conservatory of Music has been enriching musical education in the Edmonton community since 1903.

Whether you are seeking a self-paced approach to instruction or are a more serious musician preparing for performance opportunities or examinations, our exceptional teacher-performers can guide your music education. We offer Private Music Lessons, Courses, Ensembles, Music in Early Childhood and special events such as the Fall Music Festival.

The Fall Music Festival was created by music teachers, to encourage and guide musical understanding and performance skills in musicians of all ages. The festival is held November 20 to 23 with a gala concert on November 16 and a student concert on November 30. Over $5000 in scholarships will be awarded to participants. This annual event, held early in the instructional year, inspires students to incorporate the valuable comments provided by the adjudicators into their studies. Call 780-633-3725 for information.
