Dog Training Through Positive Leadership

Among the many important responsibilities dog owners have, train-ing a dog in a positive way is among the most important. Positivetraining focuses on the entire relationship with your dog based ontrust, respect and joy. Research shows dogs descended fromwolves and are pack animals so hierarchy is a large part of theirworld. In order for your dog to know its place and feel secure, youmust be the pack leader which will allow your dog to relax and sim-ply learn to please you. A well-trained dog is easier to care for andlove, causes less damage to your home (and theirs) and lives a hap-pier life. A calm, under control dog makes for good relationshipswith people and other pets. Training your dog is a wonderful wayto bond with your pet while teaching him how to behave so every-body wins in the long run! Dogs must be six months or older andcurrent on all vaccinations. Register early to get a list of suppliesyou will need to bring. A signed waiver of liability is required. Allowners/handlers of small and large breeds will meet on the first night at 6 p.m. in Room 105 in Chappell Hall. Please do notbring your dog to the first night of class. Please do bring proof ofvaccinations.

Save a life! Drive defensively! More than 34,600 people lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes annually, and over two million moresuffered disabling injuries, according to the National Safety Council. For teenagers, cars are still the leading cause of death. “Deathby driving” is the third highest preventable cause of death. The triple threat of high speeds, impaired or careless driving and notusing occupant restraints threatens every driver, regardless of how careful or how skilled. Driving defensively means not only takingresponsibility for yourself and your actions, but also keeping an eye on "the other guy." GC is proud to be your partner in striving toprevent automobile accidents. In addition, you can save money on your auto insurance (or, parents can save money on your teenag-er’s insurance!) by successfully completing this National Safety Council Defensive Driving course. Georgia Senate Bill 433 requiresinsurance companies in Georgia to give families with good driving experience a 10 percent discount on portions of their auto insur-ance upon completion of this course. Eligibility for the discount will continue for three years, provided that no driver commits a mov-ing traffic offense or has a claimagainst the policy based on anat-fault accident. Consult withyour insurance agent to deter-mine exactly how completion ofthis program will affect yourinsurance rates. Please bringpaper and pencils to class. This course is not for pointsreduction.
