As you all know, for the pastcouple months we have been run-ning a contest for our readers. Whilewe have been giving away free presslevel Tampa Bay Rays’ game ticketsto the winners, our readers havegiven back to us as well. Literallythousands upon thousands of youhave entered our contest. We dohave 5 separate Neighborhood Newsand Lifestyles magazines here in theBay area, so we knew we would get apretty good response considering weare mailed to more than 80,000homes in total but when we receivedover 10,000 entries in the firstmonth, even we were surprised andhumbled by the gigantic interaction. We engaged in countless email, phone and even face-to-face conver-sations with many of our readers. While it was great to hear how much

our readers love what we do, we al-ways ask what they think we can dobetter. The usual response of wantingto see more coupons, more diningfeatures and more pages is a given.Trust me guys, we want the samething too! We did hear some things, however, that we can put into actionright away!

The first suggestion that we de-cided to put into action was a newlogo. After at least 10 people said ourlogo looked dated it got us thinkingabout a change. After over 20 peoplesuggested a fresh new look we had ameeting and decided to modernizeour Neighborhood News and Lifestylesbrand. My dad created the design forour logo using red block print inthe 90s and let’s be honest, the logoscreams 90s! We all know obnoxious, loud and in-your-face was “thething” in the 90s but these daysmore and more companies are reap-

ing the benefits of brand recogni-tion by incorporating clear, crisplogos. We wanted to go with some-thing professional, clean and classy.Tony and Ashley Sica, a very talentedhusband and wife design team whojust so happen to be a crucial part ofour Neighborhood News and Lifestylesfamily came up with this new logoand we couldn’t be happier! Wehope you like the new look.

The second suggestion we tookto heart dealt with the name of ourwebsite. Since we started this Rays’tickets contest we’ve had in excess of50,000 unique visitors to our web-site each month and over 500,000page views! Again, while that num-ber is fantastic, if we can do betterwe are going to do everything in ourpower to make that happen. Manyreaders told us the old website wastoo long and that was the primarycause for typos while searching forus. We decided to make it super easy. The new website iswww.NNLFlorida.com and thatchanges our email as well [email protected] for adver-tising and general information, andfor editorial submissions you canemail [email protected].

We hope you guys like thesenew changes as much as we do!

Several years ago when Jolene andRamesh Pershad were looking forchildcare for their children, they haddifficulty finding the right place. “Atthe time there was not a lot of devel-opment in the area,” says Jolene. “Ihad an idea in mind of the perfect day-

care center for my children and I had avery hard time finding something thatlived up to what I wanted.” Since ac-quiring Discovery Point Child Devel-opment Center in Lutz this pastFebruary, Jolene has been makingchanges to the center to make it a per-fect, safe, comfortable place for chil-dren to learn, grow, and have fun –

she’s made it into the kind of place shewanted for her own children. And par-ents are taking notice.

“There have been major improve-ments including a safer environmentas well as a much friendlier and invit-ing atmosphere,” said Arlene J. “It’sevident that the kids’ safety, happiness, and educational standards are at theheart of these new owners. Can’t waitto see what else they have in store forthis location.”

Jolene says that since Februarythey have made major improvementsto the classrooms including new

equipment and technology centers. She says the new curriculum specialisthas made improvements to the cur-riculum so that children at “Gold SealAccredited” Discovery Point Lutz arehaving fun learning while they areplaying. In fact, Discovery Point’s in-novative creative learning helps chil-dren develop a love of learning thatwill last a lifetime. Discovery PointLutz’s kids loved learning so muchthis year that their VPK scores were animpressive 96%.

orthodontic care affordable to all.We will miss our visits to his office.Dr. Albert Family Orthodonticscomes highly recommended in thishousehold.”

While kids absolutely love AlbertFamily Orthodontics, it’s perfect foradults too. Casey Odell writes, “Teethcame out PERFECT! Love the results!I was a little nervous when I first madean appointment, seeing as how I am alittle bit older, but I couldn’t be hap-pier! The office is nice, clean, andmodern. Staff and Dr Albert weresuper friendly, helpful, and ready toanswer any questions and work withyou. I will be recommending anyoneand everyone that needs a perfectsmile to come here!”

Dr. Albert grew up locally andtruly has become a leader in thecommunity, where he now lives withhis family. An alumnus of local EastLake High School, Dr. Albert nowbrings his services to the Pasco andPinellas communities as a specialist inOrthodontics and Dentofacial Or-thopedics. A graduate (with honors)of The University of Florida’s Col-lege of Dentistry, he also completed

his Orthodontic Residency, receivedhis Orthodontics Certificate, andearned his Master’s of Science De-gree from UF.

This year, Dr. Albert was privi-leged to take part in two importantoutreach projects that provided freedental care to Floridians and abroadin Haiti.

Mission Possible!Locally, Dr. Albert joined other

dental professionals to provide freedental care to 1,660 people at the firstFlorida Mission of Mercy (FLAMOM)event, which was held at the FloridaState Fairgrounds on March 28-29 ofthis year. Dr. Albert says, “With thehelp of over 1,400 volunteers, we pro-vided 8,000 dental procedures equal-ing approximately $1.1 million dollars’worth of free care.”

When Pastor Douglas Poole ofCypress Meadows Communitystarted planning a mission trip toHaiti, Dr. Albert stepped up to vol-unteer along with other members ofhis church, not really knowing whatto expect. They went to an outskirtcommunity on the northwesterncoast of Haiti where people haven’treceived much outside help due tothe remote location. Dr. Albert ex-plains, “It was a leap of faith. There

was no setup other than a chair, in-struments and anesthetic, but wewere still able to help a lot of people.I pulled 39 teeth; extractions are agreat way to help people in those cir-cumstances because it eliminates thepain and prevents infection.” Dr. Al-bert is thankful to the many localdentists who donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. “We had threelarge suitcases full of donated sup-plies from our generous local den-tists. It is sad to say, but for a lot ofthe children there, they did not have

their own toothbrush or any way toclean their teeth. They were clutch-ing those toothbrushes like the bestgift you could imagine!”

Dr. Albert is humble about thegreat success of Albert Family Ortho-dontics and is very appreciative of hispatients and the community’s trust inhim. So, he does his best to give back– both to his patients and the com-munity. Brilliantly, he blends con-tests with community outreach, suchas the recent Pet Palooza contest.“Our patients posted pictures of

Once again this year, AlbertFamily Orthodontics held its “Mak-ing a Change” contest for localschools and was able to give $1,000to Dayspring Academy, $250 toSeven Springs Middle School, and$250 to River Ridge Middle School.“I went to each school and met withthe principals to give them the check

personally,”shares Dr. Al-bert. “They hadimmediate needsand I was sohappy that wewere able tohelp.” To decidethe winners ofthe “Making aChange” con-test, Albert Fam-ily Orthodonticslists all of theschools in thearea that theirpatients go to onits facebook

page, and people vote for their fa-vorite school. The top three schoolswith the most likes are then enteredinto a random drawing for the topprize.

Some of Dr. Albert’s contests arejust to give back to his patients, like arecent contest that utilized the popu-lar website Pinterest. “Re-Pin toWin” was super easy; all that was re-quired to be in the running to win anXbox One was to re-pin a graphicdesign provided by the Albert FamilyOrthodontics.
