Transcript of La Barriere Crossings School...Tuesday, February 20th. Ticket order forms coming home soon. LA...
We are already approaching the month of February and this month’s mantra is: “A Goal Without A Plan Is Just A Wish.” (The Growth Mindset—Annie Brock and Heather Hundley)
“Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph: a beginning, a struggle, and a victory.—Mahatma Gandhi
This month in growth mindset, we are talking about grit and real world examples of grit, as well as, performance goals and learning goals. Grit is the ability to persevere and passion for a long-term goal. Michael Jordan would have been a failure had he not persevered and put in thousands of hours. Take the time to watch the Nike commercial “Failure” featuring Michael Jordan. “I’ve missed more than nine thousand shots in my career. I’ve lost more than three hundred games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot, and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.” We are also discussing the difference between performance goals and learning goals. Getting an A in French class is a performance goals. Being able to speak French if a learning goal. Only learning goals lead to mastery. Help your child set learning goals for themselves!

We have hit the ground running in January, with Basketball season now in full swing. The Gr.7/8 Girls basketball team has played a number of league games, and along with the 7/8 boys basketball team, hosted an exhibition game on Thursday, January 18th. The 7/8 boys regular season begins on Thursday, February 1st. LBC will play host to the SRSD Western Girls Gr.6 Friendship Basketball Tournament on Friday, February 2nd. In Physical Education, we have spent a lot of time working on our Basketball skills over the past few weeks. We will be transitioning to a Lacrosse module, beginning in early February. In Health, all classes at LBC have learned about the use and abuse of various substances. This has culminated with each class practicing strategies for responding to various drug-related situations, by engaging in role-playing activities.
