March 25 - AOHS students wear scrubs - Butler’s new website launches. Our new website address is: butlerhighschool.wearecms.com March 26 - Mid-terms during 1st and 2nd blocks. Please make sure your child is on time for school. March 27 - Today is a reverse schedule day (we begin with 4th block and end the day with 1st block), so mid-terms are first thing in the morning during 4th and 3rd blocks. Please make sure your child is on time for school. March 28 - End of 3rd quarter - Mid-Term Make-up Day. If your child missed an exam, today is the make-up day. - Kate’s Skate Fundraiser for Make-A-Wish (click HERE for more information) - Drawing for “Who Wants to be a Thousandaire” Raffle at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium! Butler’s New Website

CMS is launching new websites for all schools district-wide Monday, March 25th. You can check it out for yourself on Monday at: butlerhighschool.wearecms.com

Prom Tickets Our junior and senior prom is on May 4th from 8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at Shriners. Tickets are on sale NOW during all student lunches for $60, cash only, until we run out. If there are any left after Spring Break, the price goes up to $65. Guests from Other Schools If your child is bringing a guest from another school, the guest must complete a Prom Guest Form and have his/her principal sign it. Forms can be found in the Front Office.

We Need Your Recycling!

Every year, our Butler Couture Club led by Ms. Potter enters a competition called “Recycle the Runway.” It’s an event where students create dresses out of recycled items and compete against other Mecklenburg County schools. This year they are requesting the items below. Please bring them to the Front Office or to Ms. Potter in room 720. We can’t wait to see what our students create! Stay tuned! • Lots of empty water bottles • Plastic lids & containers (similar to Cool-Whip

and yogurt containers) • Fruit netting bags (from oranges, lemons, etc.)

Join us at Kate’s Skates! Butler’s Student Government Association is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. EVERYONE is invited—not just the kids! And, there’s all you can eat pizza and soda.* Join us at Kate’s Skates so we can help this worthwhile cause! Date: March 28 and April 11 Time: 5:00—8:00 pm* Cost: $8.00 Place: 14500 E. Independence Blvd. Indian Trail *Come between 5:30 & 7:00 p.m. and receive all you can eat pizza and soda! Just say, “I’m from Butler!”

Mid-Terms this Week Students have mid-terms this week beginning Tuesday, March 26th through Thursday, March 28th. Please make sure your child is on time each day as the mid-terms will be held first thing in the morning. Here is the schedule: Tuesday 1st & 2nd block mid-terms Wednesday: Reverse schedule day. School will begin with 4th block and end with 1st block. Students will have their 4th and 3rd block exams first thing in the morning. Thursday: Mid-Term Make-Up Day Friday: Regular school day

Q&A with SGA Please enjoy our Student Government Association’s (SGA) fifth interview of an outstanding student. This month we feature Savannah Carter from our wonderful Fine Arts Department! Wish Week What’s our wish? To help a desperately ill child have a wish come true. April 8 through April 12th is Wish Week at Butler. During all lunches, students can stop by SGA’s table and purchase a small item or make a donation. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish of Central and Western NC. SGA’s goal is to raise enough money this year to sponsor a child’s wish. Great kids doing great things!

Going to CPCC in the Fall? Please bring copies of your acceptance letters to Student Services! We need to track the information and we want to put you on our college wall!

Military Enlistments We want to celebrate you! Come to Student Services with your papers or recruiter’s name so we can put you up on our military wall!

Cheer Interest Meeting There will be a meeting for parents and students who are interested in cheerleading for the 2018 - 2019 school year on Wednesday, April 10th at 6:30 p.m. in Butler’s Media Center.

Tutor.com Through the Public Library!

• Did you know that every child enrolled in CMS has a free library card? • Did you know CMS students get 10 free sessions with a LIVE tutor in any subject (AP and regular)? • Did you know that Tutor.com will review and critique your child’s research papers for free? • Did you know that Tutor.com has free practice quizzes and SAT and ACT prep tests?

Just have your students log onto the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library website and sign into One Access. It’s that simple! Our Technology Facilitator, Stephanie Ferron, created a video to show you just how easy it is to access these resources! And for those readers out there, we are also posting a link to the slide show. Scholarships & Programs

Delaney Scholarship Seniors—if you intend on pursuing an undergraduate degree in business, finance, account, or a law related major, please check out the Ernest Delaney Foundation Scholarship worth $22,000. Go to the School Counseling website for more information. The deadline is today, March 22, 2019! Hurry!

Rufus M. Dalton Leadership Scholarship

This award is open to all students in grades 9 through 11 who have demonstrated leadership and service, but that have financial limitations. It is an all-expenses paid, 22-day backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater canoeing experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Included in the award are the funds to cover the cost of the required gear. The total experience is valued at $4,800. All application materials must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on March 27th. Project One Scholarship Seniors—check out the Project One Scholarship Fund for students raised in a single parent home. Go to the School Counseling website for more information. The deadline is March 31, 2019.

BABC Athletic Scholarships

Our Butler Athletic Booster Club (BABC) is offering two athletic scholarships to students - one for boys and one for girls. The deadline is April 12th. To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements: • Be a current Butler Senior • Be a Butler athlete for the 2018-2019 school year To apply, click on this link: BABC Athletic Scholarship

College Board Opportunity Scholarships Attention Juniors—there are new scholarships on the college board website that are open to all juniors re-gardless of your family income! The scholarships all have different deadlines, so go to CollegeBoard.org for details and to apply.

NC Youth Leadership Program

Juniors Only—do you want to develop leadership skills? If so, apply to the NC Youth Leadership Program. It’s a 3-week summer program with field trips and training sessions. You get the opportunity to work with a team of peers and compete for best project. You also receive a $750 stipend. The deadline is April 8th. Apply through this link: NC Youth Leadership Program. Congratulations to our Orchestra Program! BRAVO to our Butler Orchestra Program on a great showing at the 2019 Music Performance Adjudication in Winston-Salem! Our BHS Symphonic Orchestra was awarded a SUPERIOR Rating!

JROTC Competition Winners Congratulations to our JROTC for these receiving these awards during drill team competition on March 9th. A total of 13 schools participated in the event! 3rd place overall: Whole Competition 2nd place: New Basic Squad (consisting of 1st year cadets) 3rd place: Colorguard 3rd place: Armed Platoon 1st, 2nd & 3rd place: Knockout - competition where all drill team members Participate in drill team movements. Congratulations Women’s Basketball Our Lady Bulldogs had an outstanding season, and we couldn’t be more proud of them! They made it all the way to the Final 4 and were runner-ups for the Western Division Ti-tle. Texas Roadhouse Winner of the Month

Ms. Cathy Jones is the Texas Roadhouse recipient for March. Cathy juggles numerous responsibilities day in and day out, including the oversight of three self-contained classrooms, three OCS classrooms, seven to eight inclusion classrooms per semester, 20+ staff members, and more than 200 EC students on our campus. For every student there is paperwork and at least one meeting per year, but many have additional meetings. Cathy collaborates with EVERY department at Butler, in addition to our feeder middle schools and private schools. She is kind, caring, hardworking, and handles daily challenges and emergencies.

Congratulations Gianna Wessler

Gianna Wessler has been chosen as one of the representatives from CMS to participate in the travel/study abroad program that is sponsored annually by the British American Business Council. She produced an amazingly creative video on J. R. R. Tolkien that propelled her to the 2nd round which consisted of an interview with the BABC of the North Carolina Council. Gianna will represent CMS and travel to Great Britain this summer! If you see Gianna, please congratulate her!

Congratulations Josue Lopez CMS celebrates the shining stars among their more than 9,000 seniors in the Class of 2019. Seniors with remarkable stories of achievement, perseverance and determination are present on each campus in CMS. We are thrilled that Butler senior Josue Lopez was chosen by CMS to share his story. Publix - GREAT NEWS, Key tags are so 2017! But you do have to log onto the Publix website, create an account with them, and link your charity donation to Butler’s PTSO. A small price of time to pay for no longer needing THE KEY TAG!!! For every $37,500 our supporters spend at Publix, $250 will be given to our school at the quarter’s end. If we haven’t reached this mark by the end of the quarter, our balance carries over to the next quarter.
