Homeless But Not Forgotten A Victor Valley Group reaches out to Feed the Homeless Often times, in many communities, the homeless population goes unnoticed, thought of as a public nuisance or sometimes are even mistreated. The Victor Valley has a large homeless population and with the help of many, including local news resources, like Victor Valley News Group (www.vvng.com), the word is getting out and groups are being formed to help feed the homeless. The groups of people who help feed, and clothe the homeless realize that many of these people are mentally ill, some have addictions and some just fell on some hard times, they also know that all are humans and they each have a story. Victor Valley Brown Sack Lunches, a Facebook group recently formed by Cynthia Quintana, is a group that goes out in several areas where there is a high concentration of homeless people and gives them a brown sack lunch. These lunches include different things, they have had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, hot dogs and one time were even joined by a local taco catering company called El Taco Felix, who donated 150 tacos as well as other food items. These lunches are prepared by volunteers and items to make these lunches are donated by the community. The brown sack lunches usually include a drink and a small side (chips, cookies, a fruit etc). These lunches are not just given to the homeless, “we give these lunches to the homeless, single moms, children or anyone we see that is in need. We feed them and we refer them to local resources in our community who can further assist them with their other needs.” said Cynthia Quintana. Many find it personally rewarding to help assist in a community service such as this one. The thoughts of one person to start something and the actions of many, can make a world of a difference in someone who once felt alone, forgotten and in many ways invisible to society. Victor Valley Brown Sack lunches could always use the help of the community as far as volunteers and donations. They are always in need of things like bread, hot dog buns, hot dogs, peanut butter, jelly, chips, crackers, cookies, fruit, bottled water, juices (like capri sun), brown paper lunch bags, zip lock baggies and even gas cards to help the volunteers with pick ups or lunch deliveries. If you would like to help please contact Cynthia Quintana at [email protected] or join the Victor Valley Brown Sack Lunch facebook group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/brownsacklunches. ROSEMEAD, Calif.— Southern California Edison (SCE) is advising customers to be aware of a telephone scam that demands immediate payment for allegedly past due electricity bills. Imposters have been calling SCE customers telling them they must make immediate payment on past due bills or have their electric service disconnected. The callers are also demanding that payment be made through a prepaid cash card. Other forms of fraud involve customers being asked to purchase prepaid debit cards. Scammers ask for the debit card number and collect the value deposited on the card. SCE customers have reported about 800 instances of phone scams this year. About 150 residential and commercial customers have been victimized by some form of bill scam with the incidents costing them an average of $800 to $1,000. “We ask our customers to be alert to these calls that demand immediate payment and threaten service disconnection,” said Marlyn Denter, SCE manager of consumer affairs. “Customers suspecting a fraudulent call should ask for the caller’s name, department and business phone number. If the caller refuses to provide this information, customers should terminate the call and report the incident immediately to local police or SCE at 800655 4555.” Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, whose office prosecutes crimes in about 80 cities within SCE’s service territory, joins the utility in warning consumers about telephone scams. “SCE and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office share a common interest in keeping Los Angeles County residents safe from bill scams and other financial crimes,” Lacey said. “A first step to preventing financial scams — particularly among the elderly and in ethnic communities — is to educate the public,” she said. “When these crimes do occur, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is fully committed to prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law.” SCE also reminds customers to ask for identification when a stranger comes to the door or calls claiming to be a utility worker. SCE utility workers will provide verification, including their department and phone number, when asked. In most cases, home visits by SCE are scheduled by the customer and SCE will confirm the appointment in writing. If there are any concerns, SCE and law enforcement officials suggest having the utility worker wait outside until their identity can be verified. SCE customers should also note that: An SCE employee will never ask for money in person. Never reveal your credit card, ATM or calling card numbers (or PIN numbers) to anyone. If someone calls and requests you leave your residence at a specific time for a utilityrelated cause, call the police. This could be a burglary attempt set up by the caller. Be suspicious of anyone who arrives at your house without an appointment asking to check an appliance, wiring or suggesting that there may be some other electrical problem inside or outside your residence. For more ways customers can stay safe, please see sce.com/safety and read the safety tips section. Technology

By Stacey BartonIt is amazing how the Windows 8tablets have managed to fair on in thecurrent technology market that ishighly characterized by cutthroatcompetition from all over. WhenWindows made its announcement ofexpanding their product line to theproduction of Tablets, it was clear thatthey were going to make a ground

breaking success, but very few everknew that their success was going tobe as phenomenal as it is today.Despite its historic revolution of thecomputing world and drastic changesin modernity, Microsoft still has itsfair share of business hurdles and legalissues to deal with. It is true, however, that the Windows 8 Tablet is not onlyhere to stay, but also to make acommanding presence in the market

for a few good reasons. There are many factors to considerwhen buying any new electronicgadget especially when one has to paya premium for it. Due to the fact thatthese devices are more prone tobecoming obsolete because of therapid increase in new discoveries andinventions, one needs to make surethat they have an electronic devicethat is going to last for a while andgive them a good return on theirinvestment. The Windows 8 tablet isnot exempted from theseconsiderations; nevertheless there arelegitimate reasons why anyoneconsidering buying them now is boundto get a great deal. The marvels of theWindows 8 operating system and itsversatility is one such reason why theWindows 8 tablet is worth investing infor anyone shopping around for thiskind of product. Many are not aware that thedevelopment of the Windows 8operating system began earlier thanthe release of its predecessor which isWindows 7. This chronology of eventsis not usually the norm in thetechnology industry; hence, one isright in questioning why this was so.Windows 8 is an enhanced version of

the worldfamed Microsoft WindowsOperating System designed for use inpersonal computers, laptops andtablets. In barely 6 months after itsrelease, Microsoft has alreadyreported sales of over 60 millionlicenses of Windows 8 alone, and thistrend appears not to be relenting atall. The Windows 8 popularity stemsfrom the fact that it has introduced themuchneeded changes in the operatingsystem's platform geared towardsimproving the enduser's computingexperience on mobile devices liketablets and giving stiff competition toAndroid and Apple iOS. Android is aLinuxbased mobile operating systemdesigned mainly for touchscreenmobile devices like smartphones andtablets. Apple iOS is also a mobileoperating system that is designed anddeveloped by Apple Inc. to perform asimilar function. Windows 8 comeswith a new touch user interface andshell based on the Microsoft's "Metro"design language.Microsoft's "Metro" design languagewas originally designed for theWindows Phone but due to itsversatility, it has been widely used inthe development of Windows 8.

Microsoft has also responded to itsusers' request for software immune tofrequent virus attacks by building anAntivirus capability in the Windows 8tablet itself making it easier for techsupport. It also contains a secure bootsystem which is designed to preventMalware from altering the bootupprocess. With the Windows 8 tablet, one will also find emergingtechnologies like cloud computing,USB 3.0 and NearFieldCommunications all integrated in thismagnificent piece of art.The Windows 8 tablet also comeswith very powerful and competitive inbuilt graphics that support gamingand other graphicintensive uses ofthe modernday computers. It is builtwith a very impressive stand thatallows one to erect the tablet on a flatsurface without any additionalsupport. It can also be connected to anexternal keyboard and mouse forbetter handling if one so desires. Thisstateoftheart design coupled withits powerful performance is bound toentice and please any tablet shopperwith a great taste for technology andthe fine things of life.

Want To Buy A New Windows 8 Tablet? All You Need To Know.

By Andrew JohnsonWhen looking online, watchingadvertisements or visiting computerstores, it's often hard to narrow downwhat hardware you would like for yourown machine. With so manynumerical values both for names ofdevices and the power the devicedelivers it's difficult to figure outwhich numbers really matter. Whilesome businesses opt for a simplernaming routine for their products, such as NVIDIA and ATI/AMD, othersaren't so userfriendly. Buying a powersupply for example might lead manyconsumers to think purchasing the onewith the highest power is the best

option, when really that's seriouslyoverpowered and just a waste ofmoney in most cases. Here are sometips for buying computers. The Core PartsThe trio that makesthe entire computer function. This iswhat you figure out first, especiallywhen building your own PC. Themotherboard acts as a hub for all theother components and provides aseries of slots for the different devices.Everything connects to this, and youshould pay special attention to itscapabilities before purchase.Forexample, only certain RAM andprocessors will attach to certainmotherboards, meaning you need toplan ahead with both your budget and

the desired limits of the machine. The processor in this regard is easyto decide upon. Once you've got yourmotherboard chosen, you'll berestricted to a single series of centralprocessing unit (CPU). For example, last generation Intel motherboardsonly accepted Core2Duo andCore2Quad processors, while thecurrent generation accepts i3, i5 and i7processors, which are the latest ones.Obviously the higher the speed ofthe processor, the faster it works, butthere's something to be said of cores aswell. A processor with more cores willfunction a lot better in multitaskingenvironments or when presented withprograms that can utilize multiple

cores at once for increased efficiency. However, this can also be bottleneckedby the RAM.Random Access Memory (RAM)serves as a temporary storage devicefor the processor to access whenever itneeds. Due to the speed of the RAM, itcan deliver the necessary informationmuch quicker than if the processorwere to access the hard drivesrepeatedly. The more you have, themore information it can store for theCPU. The speed of it can make loadingup applications much quicker, thoughwhile the RAM provides a bottleneckfor the CPU, it works vice versa aswell.PowerThis is a grey area for many

consumers, as it's difficult to knowhow much power is required by yourPC. However, you can purchaseperipherals that will tell you howmuch electricity your PC is consumingwhile on, so you could use anothercomputer to figure it out. Otherwise, you should purchase a 400w for astandard, nographics card computeras this will likely suffice. The higherquality brands will provide guaranteesand will likely last longer. For thoseutilizing graphics cards, even multipleones, consider at least 700w with thenecessary cables to power said cards.

By Ethel MartinMillerThe other morning, as I was making upmy bed, I overheard a commercialplaying on television. I wasn’t able tohear the beginning of the commercial, but the part that I overheard is why Ichose to write this article. The commercial consisted of a motherspeaking about how she wanted to helpher children by teaching and showingthem about living a healthier life. Sheinsisted that she was going to preparehealthier meals so her children wouldgrow up healthy and possiblyexperience longevity. Her parentsdidn’t eat properly or exercise, andthey are plagued with poor health andseveral diseases. She didn’t want herchildren to experience some of thosediseases that her parents suffer. She didn’t want her children eating thewrong foods such as too much sweets, carbohydrates, fats, salt, not drinkingenough water and eating enough fruitsand vegetables. She had made up hermind to think about her children andtheir futures. I want to explain to myreaders that the commercial that I waslistening to did not have the mothersaying everything that I am writing inmy article, but the little that I did hearinspired me to write my own feelingsabout encouraging parents to join inand teach our children, andgrandchildren to eat healthier. Andlet’s teach them by example.I know most of us feel the same as thatmother; we don’t want our youngchildren and grandchildren developingdiabetes, high blood pressure, heartdisease, high cholesterol, and living alife of obesity with low self esteem. Weknow obese children are often teasedand bullied by some of their peers

which causes them to leave schoolfeeling hurt or worse, not lookingforward to going to school.I felt it was my duty to write thisarticle. I can remember a few yearsago, maybe more than a few years ago,one of my children was somewhatoverweight which gave her low selfesteem. I remember when I would takeher shopping. We would leave home soexcited to buy new clothes for school, but it would always end up with herleaving the shopping mall cryingbecause most of the clothes she likeddidn’t fit. In those days we didn’t hearmuch about how to change our eatinghabits, but now we hear somethingabout it just about every day, and weneed to act upon the information. Wehave no excuse as parents/adults.I invite all of us to start preparinghealthier meals on a consistent basisfor the children. Fast food might tastegood, but it is not a healthy lifestyle. Our children deserve to have ahealthier life.I know it will be a challenge to change. But if our children are allowed to eatwhatever they want whenever theywant, then we need to take a secondlook at their futures. I also realize thatsome of us as parents/grandparentswant to eat everything in sight;therefore, the children really don’tstand a chance. So please, decide tojoin in and get ourselves together. Ifwe work toward making better foodchoices and living a healthier lifestyle, our children will be able to follow. Wecan lead by example if we try. Yes,children will kick and cry about someof the changes in the diet, but in thelong run they will realize that they areloved.

By Steve PavlinaWhat is your career? Forget about howyou define this to others for now, and justthink for a bit about how you define yourcareer to yourself. What does it mean toyou to have a career? Is it just your job? Isit something you do to make a living? Is itwhat you do for money? Is it your work? Most people would define a career asmore than a job. Above and beyond a job,a career is a longterm pattern of work, usually across multiple jobs. A careerimplies professional development tobuild skill over a period of time, whereone moves from novice to expert within aparticular field. And lastly, I would arguethat a career must be consciously chosen;even if others exert influence over you,you must still ultimately choose tobecome a doctor or a lawyer or anaccountant. If you didn't make aconscious choice at some point, I wouldthen say you have a job but not a career. One of the difficulties I see a lot ofpeople experiencing lately is that theyspend the bulk of their days working at ajob that isn't part of a consciously chosencareer. Once you graduate from schooland enter the work force, you don'tsuddenly gain the knowledge of whatkind of career to build. Most likely youjust focus on getting a job as your firststep after school. And you probably haveto make this choice in your early 20s.After a decade or two, you've establisheda pattern of work and built up someexpertise. But at what point did you stopand say, what is my career going to be?Sometimes when you ask people whattheir career is (instead of asking whattheir job is), the question makes themuncomfortable. Why? Because they thinkof a career as something intentionallychosen, purposeful, and meaningful, andthey don't see those qualities in their job.Another possibility is that they feel deepdown that their real career lies elsewhere.Just because you've been working in afield for many years doesn't mean youhave to turn that pattern of work intoyour career. The past is the past. You cancontinue to run the same pattern andfollow that same path into the future, butat any time you're also free to make atotal break with the past and turnyourself onto an entirely new career pathin the future. Ask yourself if you werestarting over from scratch today, freshout of school, would you still choose thesame line of work? If the answer is no,then you only have a job right now, not acareer. Your career lies elsewhere.I went through this process myself lastyear when I asked myself, "What is mycareer?" I've been developing andpublishing computer games since 1994.And that was exactly what I wanted to dowhen I was 22 years old. Gamedevelopment was the career I hadconsciously chosen; I didn't just fall intoit. It took a lot of work to start my owncompany and build it into a successfulbusiness. But at age 33, I had to stop andsay that I no longer wanted gamedevelopment to be my career. I still enjoy

it, and I may continue doing a little on theside as a hobby for many years, but I nolonger think of it as my career. And yet, when I looked around forwhat else I might define as my newcareer, I was in a quandary. I saw all theassets I'd built in my game developmentcareer... and a long list of goals yet to beaccomplished. Of course, the realproblem was that I was looking to thepast and projecting it onto the future. Soall I could see on the road ahead was acontinuation of the road behind. Mysolution was to use zerobased thinking...imagining I was starting from scratchagain, forgetting the past for a moment, seeing the present moment as somethingfresh and new that didn't already have adirectional vector assigned to it it couldpoint in any new direction I gave it.At the same time I started thinking likethis, I also decided to broaden mydefinition of career. While running mygames business, I had been operatingwith a very 3rddimensional view of acareer. It was about success, achievement, accomplishment, making agood living, sales, serving customers, etc.At different times my career was that Iwas a game programmer, a gamedeveloper, or a game publisher. Thosewere the labels I used. But whereas these kinds of objectiveswere very motivating to me when I was inmy 20s, years later I found them to be farless motivating. Achieving more andsucceeding more just wasn't enough of amotivator by itself. And I've seen othersfall into the same situation too thethings that motivated them greatly at onepoint no longer seem all that motivatingyears later. The motivational strategiesthat work in your 20s don't necessarilykeep working in your 30s.The solution I found was to lookbehind the labels and discover the core ofmy career. When I looked behind thelabels of game programmer, gamedeveloper, and game publisher, I saw thatthe core of my career was entertainingpeople. That was the real purpose behindwhat I was doing. And that's when itmade sense to me that this was a verymotivating purpose for me in my 20s, butthat in my 30s it lost its edge because Ihad grown to the point in my own lifewhere I felt that entertaining people wasno longer the BEST way for me tocontribute.Think about this for a moment. What isthe core of your career? What do youcontribute? What is the big picture ofwhat you do? If you work for a largecompany, then how do your actionscontribute to some larger purpose? Behonest with yourself. And don't ignore therole your company plays in your career;your career depends heavily on whatyou're contributing down the line. If youtruly assign a noble purpose to what youdo, that's great. For example, if you workat a grocery store, you might be inspiredby the fact that you help feed people. Butdon't force it if you don't actually believeit. If you feel your contribution is weak oreven negative, then admit that to

yourself, even if you don't immediatelyplan to do anything about it.Go behind the labels. Don't stop atdefining your career as computerprogrammer or lawyer or doctor. Whatare you contributing as a computerprogrammer? How does your careermake a difference in other people's lives? Is it nothing more than a way for you tomake money? As a lawyer do you resolvedisputes and spread peace, or do youmilk conflict for money? As a doctor doyou heal people, or are you just a legaldrug pusher? What is the essence of yourcareer right now?Now when you have your answer, younext have to ask yourself, is this you? Isthis truly a career that reflects the best ofwho you are as a person? For example, ifyou see the real purpose behind yourcurrent line of work as making a handfulof investors wealthier... nothing morenoble than that... then is that an accuratereflection of your best contribution? Isthat you?If you already have a career thataccurately reflects the best of who youare, that's wonderful. But if you don't,then realize that you're free to change it.If your career as a regional distributor fora major soda manufacturer basically boilsdown to pushing sugar water to makepeople fatter, you don't have to keep itthat way.I think if you realize that your currentwork doesn't fit who you are, then youhave to make a choice. You have to decideif you deserve having a career that trulysuits you. If you don't feel you deserve it,then you will settle for defining yourcareer in such narrow terms as job, money, paycheck, promotion, boss, coworkers, etc. No one is forcing you toaccept that as your definition of career. On the other hand, you can choose toembrace another definition of career thatuses terms like purpose, calling, contribution, meaning, abundance, happiness, fulfillment, etc. This requiresa topdown approach. You first thinkhard about what your purpose here is...what kind of contribution do you want tomake with your life? Once you figure thatout, then you work down to the level ofhow to manifest that in terms of the workyou do.And for many people, the seemingimpossibility of that manifesting part isparalyzing. This is especially true formen, who usually take their responsibilityas breadwinners very seriously. You seeyourself logically having two choices: Icould stay in my current job, which paysthe bills and earns me a good living, or Icould go jump into something that fitsme better, but I just can't see how tomake money at it. I have a mortgage topay and a family who depends on me; Ican't do that to them. The problem though is thinking thatthese are the only alternatives... thinkingthat you have to make a choice betweenmoney and happiness. That assumptionis what causes the paralysis againstaction. You can also envision the thirdalternative of having money andhappiness together. In fact, that's actuallythe most likely outcome. If you don'tcurrently have a career that is deeplyfulfilling to you in the sense that youknow you're contributing in a way thatmatters, then deep down, you will

sabotage yourself from going too far withit. You will always know that you're onthe wrong path for you, and this is goingto slap a demotivating slump overeverything you try to do in that line ofwork. You'll do your job, but you'll neverfeel that you're really living up to yourpotential. You'll always have problemswith procrastination and weakmotivation, and they'll never be resolvedno matter how many time managementstrategies you attempt. Your job willnever feel like a truly satisfying career it just can't grow into that because you'veplanted your career tree in bad soil. You'llalways be stuck with a bonsai. But when you get your career alignedfrom top to bottom, such that what you'reultimately contributing is an expressionof the best of yourself, the money willcome too. You'll be enjoying what you doso much, and you'll find your work sofulfilling, that turning it into an incomestream won't be that hard. You'll find away to do it. Making money is not at oddswith your greater purpose; they can lie onthe same path. The more money youmake, the greater your ability tocontribute. But most importantly you'll feel youreally deserve all the money you earn. When your career is aligned with the bestof who you are, you won't secretly feelthat your continued career success meansgoing farther down the wrong path. Youwon't hold back anymore. You'll want totake your career as far as you can becauseit's an expression of who you are. Andthis will make you far more receptive toall the opportunities that are all aroundyou, financial or otherwise. But how do you make this transition? Is a leap of faith required? Not really. Idon't think of it as a leap of faith. It'smore of a leap of courage, and it's alogical kind of courage, not an emotionalone. It comes down to making a decisionabout how important your own happinessand fulfillment are to you. Really, howimportant is it for you to havemeaningful, fulfilling work? Is it OK foryou to continue working at a job thatdoesn't allow you to contribute the verybest of who you are? If you find yourselfin such a situation, then your answer isyes you've made it OK for you totolerate this situation. But you see... selfactualizing peoplewho successfully make this leap will atsome point conclude that it's definitelynot OK. In fact, it's intolerable. Theywake up and say, "Wait a minute here. This is absolutely, totally unacceptablefor me to be spending the bulk of my timeat a job that isn't a deeply fulfillingcareer. I can't keep doing this. This endsnow."These people "wake up" by realizingthat what's most important about acareer is the highlevel view that includeshappiness, fulfillment, and living onpurpose. Things like money, success, andachievement are a very distant second. But when you work from within the firstcategory, the second category takes careof itself. Before you've had this awakening, youmost likely don't see how that lastsentence is possible. And that's becauseyou don't understand that it is nothingmore than a choice. You have probablychosen to put money above fulfillment in

your current line of work. That choicemeans that you won't have fulfillment. But it's not that you can't have fulfillment you can choose to change yourpriorities and act on them at any time. The real choice you made was not to befulfilled in your current line of work. Youbought into the illusion that money is atodds with fulfillment, and that money isthe more important of the two, so that isall you see. No matter what job you take, you find this assumption proves true foryou. But once you go through the "wakingup" experience and firmly decide to putfulfillment first, you suddenly realize thatbeing fulfilled AND having plenty ofmoney is also a choice that's available toyou. There are countless ways for you todo both; you simply have to permityourself to see them. You realize that youwere the one who chose EITHERORinstead of AND, while all the time youwere totally free to choose AND wheneveryou wanted. You set the standards for your careerchoices. Most likely your currentstandard ranks fulfillment andmeaningful contribution very low incomparison to working on interestingtasks and making sufficient money. Butthose standards are yours to set. At anypoint you're free to say, "Having a deeplymeaningful and fulfilling career is anabsolute MUST for me. Working formoney alone is simply not an option."And once you make this conscious choice, you WILL begin seeing the opportunitiesthat fit this new standard. But you'llnever even recognize those opportunitiesas long as it remains OK for you to spendall your work time being unfulfilled.I want to drive home this point. Havinga fulfilling career that earns you plenty ofmoney doesn't require a leap of faith. Itonly requires a choice. You just have towake up one day and tell yourself thatyou deserve both, and that you won'tsettle for anything less. It's not aboutfinding the right job. A career isn'tsomething you find; it doesn't requiresomeone to give you something. Youaren't at the mercy of circumstances. Acareer is something you create, something you build. It means that thework you do each day is aligned withwhat you feel to be your purpose. Onceyou start doing this kind of work, even iffor no pay initially, your selfesteem willgrow to the point where you'll become soresourceful and open to newopportunities that you'll have no troublemaking plenty of money from it.However, when you do so, the moneywon't be that important. It will just be aresource for you to do more of what youlove.Your life is too precious to wasteworking only for money or for a purposethat doesn't inspire you. No one can holdyou back from making this decision butyou. Especially don't hide behind yourfamily's needs. If your family truly lovesyou, then they need you to be fulfilled andliving on purpose far more than anythingelse. And if you love them, then isn't yourgreatest role to serve as a model to themof how to be happy? What would youwant for your own children for theircareers? And do you want the same foryourself?

TTHHEE WWOORRDDBy Dr. Rafiyah Israel

First I have to tell you a story...God spoke tome 40 years ago and told me” to go and feed hispeople “, that directive has lead me across theearth many , many times. I have to admit whenthe Holy Spirit speaks to you it is a veryhumbling experience, one in which I was totallyunprepared for. From that point on my life wasnot my own, I was put on a Divine Path to learn, feed and heal, through diet.In my journey to feed God s people, I movedto the Holy Land and became a VeganRegenerative Nutritionist. In my studies in theHigh Holy and Sacred Diet ,from the MasterTeacher Ben Ammi, I had to go back to theGenesis, the original diet. Gen:1:29, to find outexactly what God s dietary instructions were.He was very specific... “And God said, Behold Ihave given you every herb bearing seed, which isupon all the face of the earth, and every tree, inthe which of a tree yielding seed: to you it shallbe for meat.”

I knew that diet was theroot cause of these debilitating and fataldiseases, So my goal earlier in life was to changefrom a meat based diet to a plant based diet, Thebuck had stop somewhere and it stopped withme. Christening or Baptism? What's the Difference?By Jill Fox

Baptisms and Christenings are an importantpart in any family's life. A lot of people thinkthat these ceremonies are the same things thatgo by different names. This is not the case, however, they do share several similarities andcan often be used interchangeably. There is adifference and that's what we're here to talkabout. So what is the difference between thetwo? This changes based on the religion and theage of the person involved. Let's take a look atthe differences between a christening and abaptism:Baptism is a ritual in Christianitybasedreligions, where the one accepting the faith hasan ablution performed on them. This is anecessary process that is used to welcomenewcomers to the faith. As an act of purity andsubmission to the individual's new faith, theperson has water run over them. The person isthen declared a Christian by the church. Thereare some differing opinions on how a baptismmust be performed. Some insist that in orderfor a baptism to be official, the person must befully submerged in water. Others state thatgraphic representations from history showbaptisms performed by simply sprinkling orpouring water over the individual. Wheninfants are baptized, these are referred to asinfant baptisms and are often different thanadult baptisms.hristening typically includes an infantbaptism. Christening is the process by which anewborn is dedicated (sometimes referred to as"Introduced" or "brought" to God and/or JesusChrist. In a christening, the child is named

beforehand cut their name is officiallyannounced by the church to make sure it isknown that the child is named as such. Thisensures that the child is blessed by Godthroughout its life. Despite popular belief, christenings do not indicate that the child hasaccepted the faith. Christianity dictates that thechild must choose to accept the religionthrough free will. Therefore, christenings arenot an acceptance of faith on the child's partbut a blessing on the part of the parents andchurch. The difference between the two is in theprocess. Christenings are performed during aninfant baptism and can only be performed oninfants. Christenings are announcing the nameof the baby, and since adults already have theirnames, they cannot be christened. Adults canbe baptized. Baptism is a sacrament and adedication to god whereas christenings are anaming ceremony. Because adults can also bebaptized, it is a more voluntary acceptance andis seen to be more of a dedication to God andthe faith. Both Christenings and Baptisms are an act ofcommitment. Because baptisms are oftenperformed on adults on a voluntary basis, it isconsidered to be more a commitment to God.Christening is something that the child reallyhas no say in and as such is seen as more of acommitment to the church than a commitmentto God. Both terms have been, and willcontinue to be, used interchangeably due totheir similarities. HoweverArticle Submission, they are different and now you know how.

By Amy JohnsonData brokers, or information brokers, are entities that acquireinformation on individuals and organize and sell this informationto a third party, including, but not limited to, advertisingnetworks, people finder sites, media archives or catalogcompanies They gather information about an individual fromdifferent sources, including police records, credit card companies, insurance agencies, stock companies, hospitals, pharmacies, mobile providers, government agencies, and even social networksand search engines.Because a number of sources are readily available to them, theamounts of personal information on individuals that data brokercompanies hold are huge, and that information includes morethan just your complete name, date of birth, mailing address, contact numbers and email addresses. You really should beconcerned if someone is brokering your personal information, because aside from the fact that what they do is considered aninvasion of privacy, the massive information they have can bemisused by thieves. How? Identity thieves will simply go to a databroker website and buy personal information that they think willbe of use to their identity theft techniques. No matter how vigilantyou are in terms of protecting your identity, you may still bevictimized because of leaked, stolen or purchased personalinformation. You may be held responsible for the things that a

thief does while abusing your personal and financial identity. Areyou willing to pay for a credit card purchase you didn't make? Is itokay for you to negotiate with a collection agency for a debt youdidn't create? All of these things might happen as a result ofhaving your information placed on data broker websites. How will you know if someone brokering your personalinformation has sold it to identity thieves? When you receive youraccount statements and monthly bills you may see purchases foritems you did not buy and withdrawal transactions you did notauthorize. Sometimes thieves will also change your billing addressso that you will not receive your bills and therefore not learn thatyour identity has been compromised. In order to avoid identitytheft of this kind, always review your bills and statements andmake sure all entries are accurate and yours; any suspiciousinformation is indicative of id theft.Sometimes, you may receive letters from collection agencies, because of an unpaid debt that has gone into collection. Thiscould mean that identity thieves have not only gained access toyour current accounts, but may have also opened a fraudulentaccount in your name where they have proceeded to rack up debtswithout your knowledge. When that fraudulent debt has beenplaced in collection, it can mean that your identity has beencompromised for some time and your finances are likelydamaged.Tips to restrict companies from accessing your information and

prevent thieves from exploiting your information Request for optout While there's no absolute method of deleting yourinformation from all data brokers at once; you can remove yourinformation one by one. First, contact your telephone companyand request for your contact number and mailing address to beremoved from their listings; you can do this with credit cardcompanies, too. Next, you contact information broker websiteswho have your information file and ask them to remove you fromtheir listing. Most data brokers can be contacted via telephone, email or their websites. Each of these opt outs will minimize theleakage of your private information.Opt for credit monitoring Credit monitoring is a service thathelps monitor all your credit files to make sure that your credit isalways in order and your identity is not being used for illicitactivities. Signing up for a credit monitoring service will help keeptrack of all your credit files from the credit bureaus and when anychanges are made you will be notified through text, email, phonecall or letter (depending on your choice). Changes, like a thiefapplying for a credit line in your name or changing your billingaddress to intercept your mail, will initiate an alert to you forverification. If the change is fraudulent you can take correctiveaction immediately to stop to the fraud before it begins ruiningyour identity and damaging your credit.

Who are data brokers and why should you care if someone is brokering yourpersonal information?

When you lie downand the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it isthen that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. Thisthen ties in with the last statement!I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxinsout of your body, but this was news to me. Correcttime to drink water... Very Important. From ACardiac Specialist!Drinking water at a certain time maximizes itseffectiveness on the body. 2 glasses of water afterwaking up helps activate internal organs. 1 glass ofwater 30 minutes before a meal helps digestion1 glass of water before taking a bath helps lowerblood pressure. 1 glass of water before going to bed avoids stroke or heart attack. I can also add to this...My Physician told me that water at bed time will alsohelp prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg musclesare seeking hydration when they cramp and wake youup with a Charlie Horse.Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is aCardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead authorof the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journalof the American College of Cardiology. Most heart attacks occur in the day, generallybetween 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during thenight, when the heart should be most at rest, meansthat something unusual happened. Somers and his

colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleepapnea is to blame.1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it atnight. The reason: Aspirin has a 24hour "halflife"; therefore, ifmost heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, theAspirin would be strongest in your system. 2. FYI, Aspirin lasts areally long time in your medicine chest, for years, (when it getsold, it smells like vinegar). Please read on... Something that wecan do to help ourselves and nice to know. Bayer is making crystalaspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much fasterthan the tablets. Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's aboutHeart Attacks. There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain onthe left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on thechin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, thesesymptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NOpain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack duringtheir sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest painmay wake you up from your deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouthand swallow them with a bit of water.Afterwards: Call 911. Phone a neighbor or a family member wholives very close by. Say "heart attack!" Say that you have taken 2Aspirins. Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, andwait for their arrival and ...DO NOT LIE DOWN!A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this email, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved! Ihave already shared this information. What about you?Do forward this message. It may save lives! “Life is a one timegift”

Heart Attacks and Water

By John W. Currie RN/MSNcOver the last three decades, childhood obesity has emerged as agrowing health problem especially indeveloped Western countries andmiddleincome economies around theworld. Statistics show that over the lastthirty years, childhood obesity hasdoubled globally (Ogden et al., 2012).Similarly, obesity and weight problems

have also grown more than three timesin adolescents over the last threedecades. For example, in the UnitedStates, prevalence of childhood obesitygrew from 7% in children between 6to11 years of age in 1980 to almost 18%in 2010 (Ogden et al., 2012). Obesityis the physical status of having toomuch body fat (Krebs et al., 2007).Healthcare professionals attribute thegrowing problem of obesity and weight

problems in children and adolescentsto the elements within the socialenvironment. In particular, technological advancement is a majorcontributing factor to this growingproblem. In contemporary society, children and adolescents have adoptedsedentary lifestyles characterized byphysical inactivity. Today, childrenprefer staying indoors, watchingtelevision, and playing computergames instead of playing physicallyactive games with peers in theirneighborhood. There are immediate and longtermeffects of childhood obesity. Childrenwho are obese or overweight usuallyhave lower selfesteem more thanthose who have normal weight.Immediate effects of childhood obesityinclude increased risk forcardiovascular diseases like high bloodpressure or high cholesterol(Freedman et al., 2007). Obesechildren are also more likely to sufferfrom prediabetes, a health conditionwhere a child’s blood sugar levelscause a high risk of developingdiabetes. Childhood obesity alsocaused affected children to be at ahigher risk of suffering from joint andbone ailments, sleep problems andpsychological and social problems, like

lower selfesteem and stigmatization(Daniels et al., 2005). Overweight andobese children face a very hard life intoday’s society. Children with normalweight at the elementary school teaseoverweight and obese children andmake them outcasts. The kind oftreatment they get adversely affectsmany obese children in elementaryschool and a majority of them lack bestfriends in the classroom. Obesechildren do not have best friends toplay games with, and rarely are invitedto parties and sleepovers. These children have it very hardsuch that their selfesteem plays asignificant role in their daytoday life.Longterm effects of childhood obesityinclude first the likelihood of beingobese in adulthood. This in turnplaces obese children at a higher riskof developing adult health problemslike type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoarthritis and differenttypes of cancer (Freedman et al.,2007). A study carried out byFreedman et al indicated that childrenwho are obese from the age of twowere at a greater risk of being obese asadults. In the longterm, childhoodobesity and weight problems areconnected to increased risks of

contracting different types of cancerincluding colon, breast, esophageal, endometrium, kidney, ovarian andprostate cancer among others (Kushiet al., 2006).Eradicating childhood obesity andoverweight problems is a collectiveresponsibility that requires input fromparents, teachers, church leaders, healthcare providers, media andmembers of the greater society. Mostimportantly, adopting healthy lifestylechoices is the most critical measure inthe struggle against obesity andoverweight problems in childhood(Dietz et al., 2002). Healthy lifestylechoices that families can adopt includephysical activity and healthy eating. These healthy lifestyle choices help tolower the risk of children becomingobese and developing related diseases. In particular, parents, teachers andcaregivers should be aware of a child’sphysical activity and severalinstitutions of society includingschools, families, childcare settings, media, communities, religiousorganizations among others, influencedietary behaviors. Schools andchildcare settings should establishsupportive and safe environments withpractices and policies that reinforcehealthy behaviors.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) (also known juvenileidiopathic arthritis, or JIA) refers to any form of arthritis or anarthritisrelated condition that develops in children orteenagers who are less than 18 years of age.The most common chronic arthritis among children age 6 andunder is Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). Five commonsigns and markers physicians look for in diagnosing JIAinclude: joint symptoms, risk factors, fever, rash, and limitedmovement. As children who have JRA reach adulthood, theyface possible continuing disease activity, medicationassociated morbidity, and lifelong disability and risk foremotional and social dysfunction.Cause of rheumatoid arthritis childhood: The cause of mostforms of rheumatoid arthritis childhood remains unknownand current research suggests that there may be geneticpredisposition to JRA. JRA is not contagious and there are noevidence that foods, toxins, allergies or vitamin deficienciesplay a role. Most of the symptoms are due to inflammation as aresult of the immune system. The first sign might be astubborn fever, sometimes appearing weeks or months beforeyour child complains of any joint discomfort or mobilityissues. The fever can be quite high, appearing once or twicedaily, before returning to normal.Rheumatpid arthritis childhood onset usually appears inkids between 6 months and 16 years old. The first signs oftenare joint pain or swelling and reddened or warm joints. Manyrheumatologists (doctors specializing in joint disorders) findthat the greater the number of joints affected, the more severethe disease and the less likely that the symptoms willeventually go into total remission.Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis childhood: The goal oftreatment for JRA is to maintain a normal activity level foryour child. Specific treatment for JRA will be determined byyour child's physician. But, many children withspondyloarthropathy, Lyme disease, infections and a variety ofother illnesses which can cause arthritis are initially

misdiagnosed as having JRA by inexperienced physicians. Thekey to getting the best results for your child is to make sure youare being cared for by an experienced physician who islistening to your concerns and giving your child the besttherapy.

Helpful Tips For Everyday Living

By Mona JohnsonThere are many layers of churchetiquette. All of our life we havepassed along and heard differentcomponents of etiquette that wecontinue to say and pass down to ourchildren without the rational of whatthey really entail or why we continueto say them. For instance, chewing gum is notacceptable in the House of the Lord. Why? Why do you always hear thislecture on gum chewing? Mostindividuals who chew gum areunaware of the noises that their teethand gums make as they maculate theforeign blob. Many individuals chewgum for the shrill comfort of thepopping noise that the air in the gummakes. Further most people are

unable to chew gum without it showingand looking like a cow’s cud in theirmouth. Chewing gum is unattractive, noisy and can cause distorted facialexpressions. But the primary reasons for notchewing gum is the simple fact thatmost people do not keep the foilwrapper designed to keep the gumfresh and for final disposal of the gum. Therefore, when it is time to discardthe gum it is usually trashed whereever one can find a place to hide it.The innocent discarded stick of gumbecomes a criminal as it is punchedunder the church bench seat or in thecircumference designed for thecommunion glass or with more disgustinside the Hymnal for the ushers or thecustodian to pry from the book orbench.

Another etiquette woe involvesrecognition of friends. We all want tobe friendly and we want to recognizefriends and family when they enter thesanctuary. Taking the time to greetfriends and family, with other than anod or a smile, during the churchservice is being disrespectful. It is not appropriate to greet friendsand have a conversation with themwhile they are entering the sanctuaryor during the services. It is rudetowards the other people in churchwho are trying to worship. Plus ifsomeone is entering the church latethey usually could do without theadditional focus being directed towardtheir tardiness. Wait until thebenediction has concluded.Fortunately, most churches providea moment during the service to give a

brief greeting to guest or spouses of thevisiting speaker for the day. Thechurch service is the time for you totalk to God through your praise, prayers, and hymns. Before church orfollowing the benediction or in thefellowship hall is the time to greet yourfriends and family. An unspoken faux pas concernschildren. Too often you can tell wherethe young families with children havebeen sitting during the church service. The revealing signs are cereal, grahamcracker crumbs, fruit, and animalcrackers. It is understandable that abottle may be brought for a child orinfant. However, bottles are faithfullycollected and taken home with parentsfollowing the service.Families with children are our future. However, if your child does eat

something during the service, as aparent you should clean up any and allmesses prior to departing church.Join me weekly as I answer yourquestions, sharing ideas, exploringgood manners and lost etiquette inthese social, political and economicallychallenging times.
