MY LOCAL GOVERMENTOur town is part of a province.Spain has 50 provinces.

In every town and city there is a local goverment with a mayor and local politicians who organise public services.

We choose these people by voting for them in local elections.

My provinceProvinces around Spain celebrate different traditions and festivals.Although most people in Spain speak Spanish, in some provinces people speak a different language or dialects.Each province has a capital city.

In Cataluña, people speak Catalonian and Spanish.

In Galicia, people speak gallego and Spanish.

In País Vasco people speak Vasque/Euskera and Spanish.

In Valencia people speak valenciano and Spanish.

We have many different local food: cocido, torrijas , callos…

MY AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITYOur province is part of a larger region called

an autonomous community.

Spain has 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities: Ceuta and Melilla.
