That’s the name of the planet where we live.

• The planet Earth is made up mostly of water.

• Geographers organize Earth’s water surface into parts.– Geographers divide the major waters of the

world into 4 major oceans:• Pacific Ocean• Atlantic Ocean• Indian Ocean• Arctic Ocean

– Lakes and seas are smaller bodies of water.

• Our planet’s land surface is divided up into 7 large landmasses called continents.– Africa– Antarctica– Australia– Asia– Europe– North

• 5 of the continents are broken up into sections of land called countries.– Africa– Asia– Europe– North America– South America

• 1 of the continents is broken up into sections of land called territories.– Australia

• 1 of the continents has no countries or territories at all. In fact, it really has no one living there!– Antarctica

• Mexico is divided into 31 states and 1 Federal District.

United States of America

• The United States of America is divided into 50 states.

• It also holds several other districts, territories, and possessions

California is one of 50 states in the country of the United States of

America.

California is located in the Western Region of the United

States of America.

The United States of America is just one of the countries found

on the continent of North America.

The continent of North America is one of 7 continents on Earth.
