MP Revanth Reddy, during his fi��rst ever appearancein the Council meeting, wentto the extent of suggestingsurrender of nonresponsiveoffi��cials to instil fear.
Damaged roads occupiedmajor part of the discussioneven before the questionhour was initiated, as severalcorporators raised the issuesin their respective divisions,not heeding directions fromthe chair.
Banjara Hills corporatorGadwal Vijaya Laxmicharged the offi��cials with negligence, alleging that they
were not available to theelected representatives fordiscussing civic issues. Othermembers Manne KavithaReddy, and Saleem Baig tooshared the grouse against zonal offi��cials.
MLC M. S. Prabhakar Raocomplained of bad road condition and nonresponsiveness of offi��cials, saying zonalcommissioners and IAS offi��cers were busy in reviewmeetings, and did not care togo on fi��eld inspection.
At this point, all the six zonal commissioners stood upin protest, but Mr. Prabhakar
Rao held forth to complainthat smaller employeeswielded unlimited power inthe corporation, and were ina position to threaten superiors. “We are answerable topeople. Over three and a halfyears have passed withoutmuch result, and we are leftwith only one year,” he said,reminding offi��cials that thegeneral body was allpowerful.
Mr. Reddy too complained that offi��cials did notlift his calls, nor would theycall back. He suggested zonalmeetings with corporatorsfor resolution of many issues, and with regard to preparedness for festivals suchas Bakrid and Ganesh Chaturthi.
He complained of rampant communicable diseases, and sewage overfl��oweven in localities such as Jubilee Hills, and suggested ex
ploiting Swachh Bharatfunds for installation of decentralised STPs. With regard to demolition of illegalproperties, GHMC offi��cialswere harassing common people by leaving out big violators in Gachibowli, he said.
Mr. Reddy also suggestedstatues in the city for departed leaders Jaipal Reddy,Sushma Swaraj, and MukeshGoud in whose remembrance, the council observed two minutes’ silence.Commissioner M. Dana Kishore said proposals worth₹��2,500 crore had been sentto the government for whitetopping of roads and ductingof utilities.
Mentioning that multipleagencies such as HRDCL andR&B were maintainingroads, he admitted thatstretches where SRDP workswere on experienced damage due to heavy vehicles.

The GHMC on Thursdaylaunched ‘Feed the Need’app for mobile phones tobridge the gap between excess food and the hungry.
Under its ‘Feed the Need’programme, the corporation has set up refrigeratorsat 30 locations across the city, where excess food can bedeposited by individuals andorganisations, for consumption by the needy.
As an extension of theprogramme, the applaunched for android mobiles may be utilised to reachout to the listed NGOs,which will collect the food
from the donors.Individuals, hotels, func
tion halls or online food suppliers wishing to donatefood may register with theapp as food donors.
An alert will be sent to theNGO partners through theapp, about excess food availability.
The NGO partners will arrange for a pickup of thefood and drop it at the nearest refrigerator. All the refrigerator locations aremarked on the GIS platform.
Simultaneously, the NGOalso has the requisitionsfrom various institutionshaving a need for the food.Online monitoring of the en
tire operations is possible toensure easy collection anddistribution, said a statement from the GHMC.
The app has been developed by startup Rathh,founded by Raja AshutoshKumar Buddhiraju, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur. It waslaunched by CommissionerM. Dana Kishore and MayorBonthu Ram Mohan.
The corporation has alsopartnered with online fooddelivery app Uber Eats, toutilise its cancelled orders.As per the agreement, oncean order is cancelled, the delivery partner will depositthe food at the nearest refrigerator, said the statement.

For the second time in sevenmonths, the allottees of double bedroom houses at Bojagutta staged a demonstration at the GreaterHyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters on Thursday, demanding that their homes behanded over to them soon.
They protested in Januarythis year for the fi��rst timewith the same demand.
Though it has been twoyears since they had beenmade to vacate their homesat Bojagutta with the promise of a double bedroomhousing complex at thesame location, till now thepromise has not been delivered, the allottees presently residing in localities suchas Vivekananda Nagar, Sriram Nagar and Shivani Nagar, complained.

orbitant rents on alternativeaccommodation elsewhere,they said.
About 100 people gathered with placards at theGHMC head offi��ce under thebanner of Bojagutta WeakerSection Welfare Association,and raised slogans demanding the houses.

The GHMC is taking upconstruction of 230 doublebedroom houses at a cost of₹��141 crore on 13 acres at Bojagutta for allotment to 213 families.

GHMC, for the fi��rst time,will distribute biodegradable bags, along with blackplastic ones, for collectionof animal waste generatedduring Bakrid.
Answering to a questionby Corporator M.A. Gaff��arabout arrangements forBakrid during the GeneralBody meeting on Thursday, zonal commissioner ofKhairatabad Musharraf AliFaruqui said that for thefi��rst time, GHMC was hiring an outside agency tocollect meat waste for processing.
GHMC Commissioner M.Dana Kishore said that₹��2.43 crore has been allocated for lighting and removal of biodegradablewaste from various localities. A total of 3.69 lakhcovers are beingdistributed.
The city’s 22 police stations alone will be given 22excavator machines, 32 mini tippers and 1.85 lakhblack covers.

A fi��re broke out at Gandhi Hospital onThursday due to short circuit in the airconditioner that gutted the paediatricsurgery post operative ward.
Scores of patients, including infants,had a narrow escape as an employeespotted the fi��re immediately after itstarted.
Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr.P. Shravan Kumar said that nobody gotinjured. “Fire service personnel haveput off�� the fi��re,” he said.
Two fi��re engines sped to the scene toput out the fi��re. This is the second suchfi��re accident at the hospital this year.More than threeandhalf months ago, afi��re broke out at the emergency blockof the hospital.

Two persons, one of them a student, died on the spotand the third succumbed, after their car collided with astationary lorry near Satamrai late on Wednesday night.
According to RGIA police, six persons were travellingin the car.
M. Anil Kumar (22), a private employee and residentof Bandlaguda near Kali Mandir, and P. Srikanth (20), astudent and resident of Tondapally Shahbad, died on thespot. K. Harish (24), also a private employee, succumbedon Thursday.
The others in the car, Prashanth, Sai and Charan, whowere injured, are being treated at LIMS Hospital in Shamshabad. Police said that the car was running at highspeed and around midnight, crashed into a parked DCMlorry near SS Convention at Satamrai. The hazard light ofthe lorry was not on, police said.
The bodies were taken to Osmania General Hospitalfor postmortem. A case has been booked against the lorry driver and an investigation is in progress.

Mild tension prevailed near Dargah Hazrat Yusufain inNampally after former mutawalli (manager) of the religious institution, Mohammed Faisal Ali Shah, along withhis supporters, allegedly took out a procession withoutpolice permission, indulged in sloganeering and creatednuisance in the area.
The incident occurred late on Wednesday night,which corresponded to the annual urs celebrations atthe dargah.
Habeeb Nagar police said when the former mutawalliwas stopped from proceeding further, he obstructed theoffi��cers, including a subinspector and constables, fromdischarging their duties. Later, his SUV sped off�� with hisdriver driving in a rash and negligent manner. Policethen embarked on a chase and intercepted his vehicle atIncome Tax Colony, Road Number 12 in Banjara Hills.
“While Faisal Ali was moving towards the dargah, mySI said he does not have permission for the procession.Then he and his associates Akhtar and Amer preventedthe SI and constable. They then drove the car rashly andmy SI had to rush to the side of the road,” Habeeb Nagarinspector P. Shiva Chandra said.
Police seized the SUV and took the former mutawalliinto custody. He was lodged at Chanchalguda jail.

In a major shot in the arm to public transport inthe State, the Department of Heavy Industries(DHI), under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME)Phase – II, on Thursday approved the proposalfor of 335 electric buses.
As was reported in these columns, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC)had prepared proposal for around 550 electricbuses after which proposal for 334 vehicles wassent to the DHI.
The Department of Heavy Industries then approved 325 ebuses for the State.
Of these 325 ebuses, 25 have been earmarked for Warangal under the Smart City category and 300 will be for Hyderabad under theFour Million Plus Capital City category.
Speaking to The Hindu, a senior TSRTC offi��cial said, “The buses will be for intracity transport. We will decide on which routes to pressthese new electric buses into service in a fewdays. Some more planning has to be done.”
