Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time 1 October 25, 2015

Question of the Week Question for Children: What would you like to ask Jesus for? Question for Youth: “Master, I want to see!” What do you most want to be able to “see” in your own life? How are you blind? Question for Adults: What does it mean for you to “see”? Are there blind spots in your life?

Amen. Amen.

"I hold the keys to death" (Revelation 1:18). Reflection: The alternative to accepting death is to try to control it by giving ourselves the authority to take life before life will make too many demands on us. Hence we have abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. Just take control. Eliminate suffering by eliminating the person. "Euthanasia" is killing. As such, it contradicts the fact that God is God. In his "how-to" manual of suicide, Derek Humphrey, a key euthanasia advocate, writes, "If you consider God the master of your fate, then read no further" (Final Exit, p. 21). Prayer: Lord, you are in control of my life, my suffering, and my death. Amen

TRUE BLINDNESS Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat by the side of the road being a "good blind beggar." But one day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine him turning toward the direction of the commotion and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he shouted out to the son of David.

The people who knew him were embarrassed by his outburst. They tried to hush him up and get him to sit back down by the roadside. Their actions spoke volumes: "Bartimaeus, you're not fit for Jesus." But it was okay for them and other "sighted" people to follow Jesus. In today's readings, we learn that true blindness is not a condition of our eyes but of our hearts.

Remembrance Service Monday, November 02,

at 6:00 p.m. To honor members of our parish family and other close relatives who have died since All Souls’ Day 2014, we will celebrate a special service of remembrance on Monday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m. The church takes this day to remember all those who have died and “gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” In faith, we believe that we remain united with our loved ones because the Kingdom of God is not bound by death. The Book of Remembrance will be displayed in the Narthex, and we invite those, whose loved one has died in the past year, to write in this book THE NAMES OF THE DECEASED. For your loved ones name to be read during the service, LEGIBLY PRINT HIS/HER NAME. Please bring a picture of your loved one, no larger than 8X10, for display in front of the Altar. Bereavement Ministers will be there to assist with the placement of the pictures. We invite one representative from each family to participate in an opening procession by carrying a lit candle, purchased for $5.00 at the parish office, or from ushers before or after each weekend Mass and place the candle within the picture display. Candles will remain lit throughout the Service. After the service, all

Mobile Library

Mobile Library, visit us this weekend, after all masses.

Come by our table to view our selections. Books, CD’s and DVD’s for adults and children can be checked out for up to four weeks.

“Do not stay there, sitting by the roadside,” (Days of The Lord, vol. 5, p. 274). In our Gospel reading, we hear of the blind man, who sat by the roadside crying out, “Jesus, son of David,

have pity on me.” His voice was so loud that it disturbed other people, but he continued calling in a loud voice until Jesus heard him and immediately responded by restoring his sight, and told the man, “Your faith has saved you.” the man then followed after Jesus on the road. (Mark 10:46-52) when anyone cries out to God for help, it is an act of faith in God’s mercy on which we know we can rely… He behaves as a good Father, so eager to lavish his tenderness on his children (Days of The Lord). In our first reading, we hear God the Father’s words, “I will gather them from the ends of the world… they shall return as an immense throng for I am a Father to Israel.” (Jeremiah 31:7-9) In this Old Testament reading, God the Father is talking about, and to, the people of Israel, but also because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, God is talking to us, and all the people throughout the world who really believe in God the Father, and Jesus. Hopefully, we not only believe, but like the man whose sight was restored, follow Jesus and become one of his loyal, active disciples!!! “We sincerely care about you and we are here for you.
