PENN-TRAFFORD AREA RECREATION COMMISSION PTARC is a non-profit, intergovernmental agency serving residents of the communities of the Penn-Trafford School District, which include the Boroughs of Manor, Penn and Trafford and the Township of Penn. Hempfield Area School District residents who live in Manor Borough pay the resident fee.

Mission To provide residents of the Penn-Trafford School District with the opportunity for life-long learning, fitness and fun through the implementation of wholesome, affordable recreation activities and the development of safe, appealing facilities.

Municipal Contributions to PTARC vs. Grant Income Received through PTARC 2005-2009

Grant funds for municipal facilities go into separate accounts and are used exclusively for the municipal grant project. PTARC writes the grant applications and administers the grant project upon grant award, but receives none of the grant funding.

Special Events Pumpkin-Grams - All ages Surprise a special friend or loved-one with a pumpkin delivery for the fall holiday! Delivered during the week of November 12, include a special message to the recipient with the pumpkin! 8 mile radius from the Penn Township Municipal Building for delivery. ($.50/mile thereafter with special approval) Orders filled first-come, first-served. Limited pumpkin availability. Fee: $9 for a 3-5 lb. pumpkin,

Halloween & Horses - Ages 5-14 Join us for a Halloween Party to remember! Enjoy a horse costume parade, horse & human games, and treats for all, horses included! There is no riding in this program. Ho! Ho! Ho! Letters from the North Pole - Pre-schoolers through age 8 Astonish your child with a letter from Santa Claus this Christmas season. Aquatics American Red Cross Swimming Instruction Babies with Parents - Ages 1-3 A parent or guardian must participate with the child. Introduction to the water through fun activities. Pre-Swim (Level I) - Ages 4-5 Water exploration skills: Children must be able to listen to oral instruction and get in the water without their parents. Assists students in feeling comfortable in the water. All children below age 6 must take Pre-Swim. Children ages 4-5 who can float both on front and back by themselves and are comfortable in deep water are taught in a separate group. Beginners (Levels II and III) - Ages 6 and Up Students are tested during the first class and are separated by ability into Level II or Level III.

Advanced Beginners/Intermediates/Swimmers (Levels IV, V, and VI) - Ages 6 and Up Child must have completed the preceding level and received a passing card to move up to the next level. Tap for Tots - Ages 4-8 Boys and girls will be introduced to the fundamental steps of the art of tap dancing. Paced for the beginning student, focus will be on timing, rhythm and music adaptation. PTARC/Shelley Proskin Recreation Center, 708 State Route 130, Trafford (seating for 100) Banquet Room - Maximum 149 $30/hour event time, $50 minimum Security Deposit required for all rentals: $100 (security deposit check destroyed upon successful facility inspection and key return) Hours Available: 9:00 am - 10:00 pm, Sunday - Thursday; 9:00 am - 11:00 pm, Friday & Saturday; Closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. Person responsible for the rental must be at least 18 years of age. Handicapped accessible. Non-smoking. All decorations, table cloths, food, and paper products must be removed and trash must be deposited in the dumpster. Bring trash bags, dish rags, towels, and cleaners for cleaning up. About Friends of PTARC Who Are We Are? Friends of Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission is a non-profit, tax-exempt Pennsylvania corporation created to provide funding for community organizations, including the Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission, to support community projects, recreational programs and activities and community development projects. What Do We Do? Friends of PTARC has established as its initial goal to raise funds to complete the rehabilitation of the former kindergarten/library building in Level Green into the PTARC/Shelley Proskin Recreation Center. In 2008, the completion of the new parking configuration took place at a cost of $80,000. In 2009, Friends of PTARC commenced fundraising to develop the 22 acres of property adjacent to Sunrise Elementary School, the PTARC Park at Sunrise. How Can You Help? Friends of PTARC is asking community-minded organizations and individuals to donate funds, materials, labor, and/or their time to assist in the completion of this project. Why Should You Help? The PTARC/Shelley Proskin Recreation Center provides: • A place for families to hold birthday parties, bridal and

Residency PTARC serves the residents of the communities of the Penn-Trafford School District, including those living within the borders of Manor, Penn, and Trafford Boroughs, and Penn Township. All residents of Manor Borough are included. Non-Resident Registration: Registrations from non-residents will be accepted. Non-residents pay an additional $10 for trips and an additional 20% for all other programs. Non-resident family passes are available: 3 registrations for $25, 6 registrations for $40 gives non-resident families the opportunity to register at the resident fee. Good for 1 year for family members residing at the same address.

Refund Policy For programs scheduled to meet 3 or more times, a full refund less a $5 processing fee will be given if you cancel your registration at least 24 hours before the first meeting. Registrations canceled after the first meeting date will be given a program voucher for the days not attended

less a $5 processing fee. Program vouchers are not transferable to another person. No refunds will be given after the second meeting date of any program. For classes scheduled to meet less than 3 times, a full refund less a $5 processing fee will be made if the cancellation is received at least 1 week before the first class meeting. For trips and tours, a refund, less a $5 processing fee and any trip fees, will be made if the cancellation is received at least 3 weeks before the trip date. There is a $30 cancellation fee for facility rentals.

Attendance Attend the first day of the program as scheduled. You will only be notified by PTARC if a program is filled, postponed, or canceled. PTARC cannot be responsible for the make-up of sessions missed for personal reasons. If you miss a session, you are advised to contact the instructor about assignments or announcements. A registered participant cannot transfer his or her right to attend a program to another person.

Class Cancellations Programs held in Penn-Trafford School District facilities are canceled whenever schools are closed. During this session, schools are closed September 6, November 2, 25, 26, and 29. PTARC reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or reschedule any program that does not meet a minimum number of class participants. Every effort will be made to reschedule sessions missed for unanticipated cancellations or postponements encountered during a program. Rescheduling is not guaranteed.

Insurance PTARC does not carry insurance to cover the hospitalization or the medical cost of persons injured during the course of participation or spectating at any of PTARC’s programs or events. All participants enter programs at their own risk.

Accessibility Every effort will be made for people of all abilities to participate in PTARC programs. People with disabilities, requiring special accommodations, must contact the PTARC office before the start of the program, so that arrangements can be made for successful participation.

Financial Assistance The Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission is committed to serving all residents of the Penn-Trafford School District regardless of financial status. If you are interested in participating in any of the programs or activities listed in this brochure, but are unable to pay the fee, please contact the Recreation Director at 724-744-2171 ext. 205 for information on eligibility for financial assistance.

Adults, at least 25 years of age, drive Grade 7-12 age teams on an amazing race throughout the Penn Trafford School District. Businesses and com-munity organizations provide activities that must be completed throughout the area. Points are awarded for the least time, the least mileage, and the completion of each activity by the team members within the allotted time frame.
