Th e mission of the Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation & Facilities

Department is to build on current strengths by preserving open space and

providing quality recreational and leisure services and facilities for the residents of the Village of Glendale Heights. With

our variety of parks, facilities, and Aquatic Center, we work day in and day

out to accomplish the goals set within our statement and beyond.

InsuranceTh e Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department assumes no responsibility for personal injury or loss of personal property while using our parks and recreation facilities. It is recommended that participants make provisions to provide them-selves with adequate coverage within their own insurance. All participants will be required to sign a waiver at the time of registration.

Gift CardsPurchase Recreation Gift Cards at the Sports Hub and give the gift of fun! Certifi cates can be purchased for specifi c classes and memberships or you can purchase general gift certifi cates that can be applied to any Sports Hub registration. We have plenty of activities to choose from, so there is always something for everyone!

Patron Code of ConductIn keeping with our program goals, we encour-age fun for all of our participants; however, certain rules are necessary to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.

Participants are expected to show respect for all participants and staff , refrain from using foul language, refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants and staff and take proper care of equipment, supplies and facilities.

If a participant continually behaves inappropri-ately, we will re-evaluate his/her enrollment. If our staff has concerns about a child’s behavior, parents will be consulted immediately.

Instructors/Consultants WantedIf you have a special skill or talent to share, the Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department is looking for YOU! In order to off er quality programs, we need knowledgeable and experi-enced instructors. If you are interested, please contact the Sports Hub.

Proper AttireIn order to provide a safe and clean envi-ronment for the Sports Hub users, a “proper attire” code has been developed. All patrons must wear shirts at all times. Clean gym shoes must be worn in all of the facilities.

Photo UseOccasionally, an employee may photograph or videotape participants in our programs and our facilities. We do not use any identifi ca-tion in our brochures and leafl ets. If you do not want your picture taken, please notify the photographer.

Share Your Photos With UsDo you have photos of your family/friends participating in any Parks and Recreation programs? We would love to see them and possibly include them in our future brochures or other marketing materials.

Refund PolicyTh e Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department endorses a customer satis-faction policy and strives to provide high quality programs, services and facilities. Howev-er, sometimes situations occur that require customers to request a refund.• Individuals requesting refunds with three or more business days notice, prior to the fi rst

class meeting or practice will receive a full refund, less a $5.00 administrative fee.• Individuals requesting refunds within three business days of the start of the program will

receive a prorated refund less the fi rst class and be assessed the $5.00 administrative fee.• No refunds will be issued for any program aft er the second meeting of a program, unless

a physician’s note is provided. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

• Refunds requested aft er the completion of a program or aft er the advertised deadline will not be granted.

Trips and special events require reservations and planning weeks ahead of time. Th erefore, we cannot accept refund requests for trips unless there is a waitlist and someone can fi ll the spot.Th e $5.00 administrative fee will not be assessed for refunds due to cancelled programs or when the refund is applied to the household to be used for future registrations at the Sports Hub.Th e Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department reserves the right to judge refund requests on a case-by-case basis and partial or full refunds may or may not be approved at any time at the discretion of the department. Some classes, programs and fees have specifi c refund policies that will be adhered to. Resident vs. Non-Resident RatesA “resident”(R) is defi ned as anyone living within the geographical bound-aries of the Village of Glendale Heights. Non-residents (NR) are welcome to register for any of our programs off ered in this guide with a slightly higher cost than that of a resident.

Held on the historic safety town grounds, participants will race using razor scooters (tricycles for our Tiny Riders) for a chance to ride away a champion! The winner of each race will receive a turkey. Race registration includes event t-shirt, commemorative medal and a post race meal ticket. A special prize will also be awarded for best costume!

Victorian ChristmasMonday, December 6h, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pmVisit the Historic House at 311 Windy Point Drive and experience what a “Victorian Christmas” might have been like 100 years ago! Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Tours of the house will be off ered and children will have the opportunity to make a Victorian decoration to take home.

“Show & Shine” Car Show & Swap MeetSunday, September 19th, 10:00 am – 3:30 pmJoin us for this classic event! Take a spin to see all the amazing vehicles, shop at the Swap Meet and peruse the Craft Fair. Th e Show & Shine Car Show has 18 vehicle classes. Th ree trophies are awarded for each class. Th ere will be 11 specialty trophies awarded including “Best of Show”. Join us for the 9th annual Glendale Heights Oktoberfest held at Camera Park, 101 E. Fullerton Avenue. Ocktoberfest will feature authentic German food as well as Oktoberfest Bier. To fi nish off your meal, there will be an assortment of wonderful German and Austrian pastries available.

Experience live entertainment daily including strolling German “Oompah” entertainers in one of the most authentic festival tents. Th ere will also be activities the whole family will enjoy. To round out the Glendale Heights Oktoberfest experience, there will be vendors with German products, souvenirs, hats, steins, and much more.

Haunted Trail: The Return, October 29th, 7:00 pm-10:00 pmThe scares are back and better than ever! Camera Park’s Haunted Trail returns for its second year bringing along some of the creepiest, most menacing, outright craziest creatures ever to set foot in Glendale Heights. Brave explorers will be led on a guided walk through the trail’s six hair-raising scenes and a few surprises along the way. Tours will run every 10 minutes. At Home Pumpkin Carving Contest, Register by 10/14Channel your inner Dr. Frankenstein as you carve and decorate the best pumpkin using the materials provided! Participants will each receive a pumpkin and a box of crafting materials and decorations. Carve and decorate your pumpkin using ALL of the materials and you could win a $50 visa gift card. A monthly payment plan is off ered to assist parents with the fi nancial responsibilities of the preschool program. To keep the monthly payments consistent, the total program fee is spread out evenly over 9 payments. Th e fi rst payment is due at the time of registration. Payment dates are: October 1, November 1, December 1, January 1, Febuary 1, March 1, April 1 and May 1.

Specifi c teachers are not guaranteed. Th e Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department reserves the right to assign teachers as best fi ts the operations of the Department.

Th e Glendale Heights Preschool Program will be off ered in accordance with recommendations by the Illinois Department of Public Health and DCFS.

Introduction to Preschool (Ages 2.5-3)Th is class is a great way to prepare your child for our Preschool Program. Children will meet preschool staff and become familiar with the classrooms. Emphasis is placed on socialization skills, as well as building self-esteem. Each week a new theme will be explored through fun-fi lled stories, songs, fi nger plays, art and dramatic play. Children must be 2.5 years old and wear pull-ups. Teamwork, socialization and motor skills are taught through engaging activities perfect for our youngest athletes! Children will be introduced to a variety of sports including, soccer, basketball and football. Equipment is provided. Sports rotate weekly.

Martial Arts/Fencing

Tae Kwon Do is the art of self-defense that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years. Th e name was selected for its appropriate description of the art: Tae (foot), Kwon (hand), Do (art). Students have the opportunity to improve

concentration, self-esteem, achieve lifelong physical fi tness and learn self-defense skills. Classes are taught under the direction of Grand Master Ki Hong Kim. A $45 uniform fee is required at the fi rst class. Belt testing is off ered twice a year at an additional fee. All colored belt students are required to have complete sparring gear.

Glendale Heights Youth Basketball LeaguesParticipants will have fun while learning the basics of basketball. Players will take part in scheduled practices and games that encourage participation, sportsmanship, skill development and teamwork. Each team’s volunteer coach will determine practice day and time. Each team will be allotted up to one hour of practice time per week at area schools or the Sports Hub. Coaches will conduct a minimum of two pre-season practices during the month of December. Games will be played January through mid-March. Rating Days will be held at the Sports Hub for levels 3rd grade and above. Players will be evaluated on various skills and teams will be formed. Parkway Tree Replacement ProgramTh e Village of Glendale Heights values its urban forest. Trees beautify our community, clean the air and enhance investments. Th e Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) placed a signifi cant burden on the Village’s tree replacement funding. Th erefore, the Village has adopted a Parkway Tree Replacement Program for tree replacements.

Adopt-A-Park ProgramAdopt-A-Park mission is to care for and maintain Village of Glendale Heights parks and other green spaces through ongoing volunteer support and education regarding the importance of caring for Glendale Heights’ lands. Volunteers may include individuals, corporations, businesses, schools, neighborhood associations, youth groups, families, friends and scouts. Parks, playgrounds, fl ower beds, greenbelts, medians and many other types of open space are available for adoption.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)Th e Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was discovered in Glendale Heights. EAB normally attack and kill Ash Trees that are weakened by stresses such as drought, disease and mechanical injury. If you think you might have an Ash Tree that is infested with EAB, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 630-260-6060 and staff will come out to inspect. Reminder - if you notice any unsafe conditions involving your parkway tree, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department immediately at 630-260-6060.

Park WatchKeeping our parks safe and clean is a big part of our service to the pub-lic. Please be sure to report any crimes, damage or suspicious activities. Memorial ProgramTh e Village of Glendale Heights Memorial Program allows residents the chance to commemorate a birth, honor a friend or remember a loved one. Th e fee for a memorial tree is $350 and for a park bench is $1,200. Th e bronze dedication plaque is 4” x 6”. Th e fee for a brick paver placed in our Award Winning Veterans Memorial Park is $100.
