Eden Whale Festival 2012 - 5 FESTIVAL OPENING Friday, November 2, 1.30pm Eden Killer Whale Museum Reflect, reminisce and share stories about Eden’s past, present and future at the offi- cial opening of the Whale Festival weekend at Eden’s iconic Eden Killer Whale museum. Michael Gandon, Fairfax Regional Media journalist and grandson of historic photog- rapher William Hall, will officiate at the opening. Museum happenings on the day include the William Hall Photographic Exhibition, ABC Open’s Now and Then – Bega Valley exhibi- tion of photographs and presentations pro- duced by Vanessa Milton ABC Open. The Eden Remembers Facebook page dedi- cated to memories and reflections from Eden’s past will be online and museum vol- unteers will show you through the thou- sands of photos already posted there. Music by Eden Marine High School and afternoon tea provided by museum volun- teers. Free admission to the Museum Theatrette from Imlay Street during the Whale Festival weekend. STREET PARADE Saturday, November 3, 10am to 11am Imlay Street Get ready to be drummed into this year’s street parade as the Pambula School Drummers set the marching beat from 9.30am onwards. Big boys toys will lead the parade commencing at 10am from the flag pole roundabout, up Imlay Street and then down to the Snug Cove precinct where many will be on display; logging trucks, hot rods, classic cars, vintage trucks and cars, local trucking company rigs, purpose built ammunition vehicle and the BOC V8 car. Then come the bands including the Bateman’s Bay Pipe Band and the Sapphire Coast Concert Band, all while the POG cir- cus weave their way throughout the crowd. Bring a brollie if you don’t want to get wet – ESSCI’s spouting whale has taken many a parade watcher by surprise! SCOOTER RACING Immediately after the street parade, hang around for the Ability Mobility scooter rac- ing down Chandos Street. Forget Bathurst, forget Phillip Island - this is real racing action, as our senior citizens put the pedal to the metal and take on all comers. Owners of mobility scooters are invited to take part in events over obstacles, relays and much, much more racing action. Check out the Eden Whale Festival website for more information. www.edenwhalefesti- val.com.au TRASHFORMATION COMPETITION EXHIBITION From 11am on Saturday check out the TRASHFORMATION exhibition in the Captain’s Table at the Eden Fishermen’s Club. See the masterpieces clever little and big tikes come up with when faced with the challenge of re-using, re-thinking and recy- cling trash and transforming it into unique, useful, needful or decorative objet dárt. SNUG COVE Eden wharf precinct. All weekend. Festival central and perfectly positioned between Eden’s main street and onshore whale watching hot spot, the Eden Lookout. The shore front will host local produce stalls, hot rod displays, truck displays, per- formances by the Great Zamboni, ‘Get Fresh’ seafood cooking demonstrations, Footprint Theatre performances and more. SATURDAY NIGHT WHALESONG & SYDNEY PORTS CORPORATION FIREWORKS Saturday night from 6pm Snug Cove trans- forms into a stage for Whale song, the Whale Festival’s key live music event. A line up of local up and coming bands will support Australian indi artists Hungry Kids Of Hungary who are touring their new album and single Sharp Shooter. Featuring local acts Gerkin, The Pocket Cats, Sam McMahon, Eden High All Star Band. http://www.facebook.com/hun- grykidsofhungary The night sky will light up with fireworks around 8pm, kindly sponsored by Sydney Ports Corporation. SUNDAY RECOVERY Following Saturday’s festival fun, prepare for a more reflective Sunday, starting with a memorial service at the Seaman’s Memorial Wall up near the Lookout at 9am. Then it’s time to give thanks for the whales with a thanksgiving service at Snug Cove. Wind down and kick back with Brunchalicious, a brunch featuring local produce and local cooking talent set in a to- die-for setting at Snug Cove, from 10.30 to 12.30pm.
