“I’ve met an awful lot of heads that have been in contact with Third Wave and I’ve been very quietly impressed with the way they think they’ve helped them to become better leaders, better at understanding the needs of their children and what their school becomes and can become. I think that Third Wave is helping schools to become world class.”

George Gyte

Empowering schools to improve from within - that’s our belief on how to raise standards. At Third Wave Enterprises, we are strong advocates of supporting teams to develop capacity from the inside, rather than through lengthy periods of external intervention.

Our approach to school improvement is a simple one - it’s based on the premise that a school-to-school model is the most effective way to instigate and sustain positive change. Using our proven expertise and national networks, we work in partnership with local authorities, trusts, schools and their senior teams to spread excellence, raise aspirations and ultimately narrow the achievement gap.

Third Wave is your experienced partner for rapid but sustainable improvement. Together we can lead schools, lead change and create collaborations that generate the best outcomes for children and young people.

Committed to making a real difference

“School-to-school support from outside our area has been really beneficial.” Local authority

“The teachers that come on the programmes feel better about themselves, so I know the work that Third Wave does raises teachers’ morale. It makes them feel re-impassioned about teaching and better informed about the craft of teaching - that means children in classrooms are getting a better deal, and that’s what we’re all here for.”

Third Wave’s success lies in its wide-ranging and extensive team of experts. With the ability to carefully tailor a high-level improvement strategy but also deliver results back down at the grass roots, we have the skills and networks you’ll not find elsewhere.

Our skill set comprises national leaders of education, HMI experience in inspection, monitoring and evaluation, outstanding heads and teams from outstanding schools, Challenge leaders from the London Challenge and subject specialists.

Such expertise places us cutting edge of the education agenda which we use for our clients’ benefit; continually linking them into a national context to bring a wider perspective to their aims and objectives.

An unrivalled knowledge base

“The process includes informal developments as well. We now feel we are working with the school improvement process, not being done unto.”

“Staff morale has improved overall. We are strong and clear about the issues and the strategies to tackle them.”

“Teachers take real leadership responsibility and take away real outcomes for children.”

Deputy head

Our work is based on communicating, which leads to in-depth understanding of the situation being faced; the next step is challenging those issues and prioritising the order of how to progress, before we move onto creating a fully-bespoke programme of work for each school that we continually review and adapt on their path to success.

In-depth and fully bespoke

Throughout this process we also coordinate associates, maintain and analyse records and data, monitor finances, ensure SIPB holds people to account, support stakeholder relationships, arrange appropriate external support, advice and interventions and produce impact studies.

Comments from programme participants: “The programme has allowed me the possibility to refresh, put into practice, share ideas and strategies and to reflect on my own teaching”.

“I have already had a ‘good’ lesson observation judgement due to implementing some of the things I have seen and picked up from the training. Also I feel more confident to take ‘risks’ and try things that I would not necessarily have tried before.”

“My lessons are more organised and I feel confident in taking risks”

“Since the programme started I have been observed by SLT and achieved a “good”!”

Our work around the country is already generating positive results for schools, their leaders and their pupils:

For six schools in one region, we improved SATs aggregate ✔

scores against the previous year

We helped eight schools move above floor targets for English ✔

and Maths

Three have been judged as no longer being subject to a ✔

notice to improve

Two have come out of special measures ✔

A proven track record

School AResults in 2009 improved at both key stages against a background noted by HMI in 2008 of ‘exceptionally low standards in core subjects’. The school’s data indicates that standards are rising and progress is improving because of the better quality of teaching and closer monitoring.

School BResults achieved in the statutory tests at the end of KS2 in 2009 shows impressive improvement compared with those in 2008. There were also increases in the proportion of pupils achieving Level 5, notably in writing and mathematics.

“They’re very energetic, they’re interesting people, they’re always up for do-ing something different and new and they always do very good risk assessments. There’s a buzz, a very big professionalism that people bring to what they’re doing and why they’re doing it.”

Third Wave is committed to developing partnerships with local authorities and trusts to make a real difference to school improvement. We build capacity in schools from within, to achieve lasting and sustainable change that ensures all children and young people have significantly improved life chances.

From extensive project management to more of a ‘light-touch’ if you require only minimal assistance, our priority is to ensure you get the support you need, at the right level, to raise standards within schools.

Take the step towards positive change…
