Genre Conventions My movie is an action/thriller movie so there are a lot of

conventions. There will be some fast paced music in some scenes to build

up the viewers excitement and tense music in other parts so that the viewer will be scared and worried.

There will be fighting scenes to show the genre conventions of an action movie.

Low lighting to make it hard for the viewer to know what’s going on which will build tension for the viewer.

There will be a lot of close up shots on the characters so you can clearly see their emotions and what they’re feeling.

There will be a love interest which will also make the movie more appealing to some other people.

The main character is a woman with a mental disability which goes against most action movie conventions.

Panic Room

Terrorists attack the main character Niomi’s city and patrol the street. Niomi hides in a

panic room in her house and is later joined by Harry, Katherine and Katherine’s dad John. Niomi and Harry fall in love. Katherine gets

jealous and attacks her and drags her out to the street. Terrorists take Niomi to their base and she’s forced to work. Weeks later, she

finds Katherine and John dead and runs away with alive Harry. He turns out to be a spy and

kills her.

Key CharactersI used Alex Pettyfer for the role of Harry because he has been in action/thriller movies before, for example ‘I am number four’ so he will have experience and will play the character well. I used Emelia Clarke as Niomi because she has been in the TV show ‘game of thrones’ which has conventions of both action and thriller. They will know how to portray the characters well. They’re both famous so they will attract more viewers.I used Donald Sutherland as John because he has played a character in an action movie so he will be able to act in this movie well as he has experience for it. Nina Dobrev plays Katherine because she’s acted as a main role in a thriller TV show so she will know how to portray her character. They’re both very famous so will bring viewers.

DirectorI chose Gary Ross to direct my movie because he has directed ‘the hunger games’ which is an action movie so he will know

how to show the conventions easily. He’s also quite famous as ‘the hunger games’ is a very popular film and he also directed

the film ‘big’ which has Tom Hanks as the main character who is very famous.

Target Audience

My target audience is people over the age of 15 and people that enjoy thriller and action

movies. I chose this target audience because my movie contains the codes and conventions used in most other films of the same genre. It might not be appropriate for people under the

age of 15 because it contains violence.

Location

I would set my movie in New York. I would do it here because my move is based in a large city

that has been taken over, so doing it somewhere like New York would make sense.

Comparison

People would want to watch my movie because it has an action and a thriller crossover so a lot

of people that enjoy movies like that would appeal to them. It also contains a lot of famous

actors and actresses so it would also attract attention on social networks and from people

who like the actors.

Budget

My movie would be high budget as there will be special effects that need to be used. For example, gun shots etc. I would also need money so that the actors could be paid. There would be advertising as well so that the movie would get people looking forward to it

and being in the cinema.
