A harp can be thought of as aninstrument that can only beplayed for a small number of mu-sical genres. However,Moorestown resident and RobertsElementary School teacher LauraDishong would say otherwise.

Dishong, also a former CaesarsCasino harpist, would play pop

and rock songs on her harp; rockis one of her favorite things toplay on the harp. Recently, Dis-hong was inspired to turn herlove for music and using harp inother genres into a CD.

Dishong will celebrate the re-lease of her first CD, “LittleGreen Apples,” with a concert atthe Moorestown CommunityHouse Ballroom on Sunday,March 22 at 3:30 p.m. This CD fea-tures her original pop-folk music. The concert is free and open to all

ages.“This is where I live; this is

where I work; I wanted to havethe party somewhere where peo-ple could come and join in on thecelebration. Hopefully, people willbe excited and enjoy it,” Dishongsaid.

Dishong had been working onthe music and ideas for her CDfor years, but when she went torecord her CD at her home, things

weren’t sounding the way shewanted. So she decided to go to astudio to get the sound she wasdreaming of.

Her CD was recorded at CedarStreet Studios in Philadelphiaand engineered/produced by TedRichardson of TED Audio. Herharp is backed up by DarrenKeith on drums, her husbandMark Dishong on keys, MichaelG. Ronstadt on cello, her daughterEllie Dishong on fiddle, JamesHamilton on percussion and

Richardson on keyboard bass.“It’s kind of like my baby,

working on this for several years.I finally found a place where theproducer was on board and excit-ed about it. He helped me achievemy vision,” Dishong said.

All of her songs were writtenon a mythological theme. Shesaid many of her songs came to

The Moorestown Police Department iscommitted to the protection of our resi-dents and business owners. Many businessowners and residents currently utilize sur-veillance systems. As crimes occur nearby,

they may not be aware that their camerasmay have captured video that could helpsolve the crime. In turn, the department isnot always aware who may have this poten-tially vital information. Much investiga-tive time can be wasted by officers going

door-to-door trying to track down potentialvideo evidence.

The police department is asking resi-dents and businesses to register their pri-vately owned surveillance camera systems

at Crime Reports utilizing the followinglink: www.crimereports.com/camera_reg-istration.

The site is secure and your informationis only accessible to law enforcement. Par-ticipants will be provided with a window

decal to note their support of the program. As the police department responds to crim-inal incidents in our community, it may beable to use the information or footage gath-ered from your security cameras to assist

in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved. There will be no re-mote access of your system. An officer willcontact you to arrange for viewing. Ques-tions, call (856) 914-3092 or email [email protected].

Police ask residents, businesses to register cameras

Maybe he popped the question on a pic-turesque summer day at the beach, a ban-ner plane proclaiming his love flying over-head. Perhaps she organized your family

and friends into a flash mob, asking foryour hand in marriage at the end of anelaborate song and dance. Or maybe it wassimple, both curled up on the couch athome, sharing a pizza and laughing over

the latest episode of a favorite sitcom.March 20 is National Proposal Day, and

no matter how you went from single to be-trothed, The Sun wants to celebrate with

your stories. Was it the most romantic proposal inhistory? A proposal that went hystericallywrong, but still with an enthusiastic “yes”at the end? Maybe the third time was the

charm? Whatever your story, we’re callingon you to send it in so we can share it witheveryone.

Send in your perfect (or not-so-perfect)

proposal story, and a photo of you and yourspecial someone, to our news email, whichis listed to the right.

Watch for your stories in an upcomingissue of The Sun.

The Sun wants to know: How did you get engaged?Share your stories with our readers for National Proposal Day on March 20

Over the last few weeks, you

may have read on this page

our request to have you send

in the story of your marriage propos-

al. March 20 is National Proposal Day,

and we are celebrating the under-the-

radar “holiday” by telling the stories

of marriage engagements of the mem-

    bers of this community.

Why do we do this? As one of our as-

sociate editors would say, “we love

    love.”

And so, too, apparently, do plenty of

    other New Jerseyans. A recently-re-

leased Census report shows that New

Jersey has the lowest percentage of

people who have married two or more

times. So, when we say “I do,” we tend

to mean it. Or, at the very least, we

don’t intend to say it again if things

don’t go right the first time.

We’d rather focus on that first point,

though. New Jersey has long held one

of the lowest, if not the lowest, divorce

rates in the nation, and experts are

never surprised to read this. Why? Be-

    cause New Jersey residents typically

fall into categories that put them at a

lower likelihood to get a divorce:

We have a high level of education,

so we often delay marriage to a later

age, making us more emotionally and

    financially stable. Money troubles are

a leading cause of divorce, and since a

good portion of our newlyweds are in

a better financial position than their

counterparts in the South and West –

where divorce rates are higher – we

    tend to avoid the D-word.

Which circles us back to what we’re

really talking about here – wonderful,

    head-over-heels love.

We have already received plenty of

    stories from the community about

    their memorable engagement stories,

and we thank you for them. Your sto-

ries will be told in these pages in the

coming weeks. If you want to share

your stories with the town, please

send them in. We love love, all year

    ‘round.

    in our opinion

Want a lasting marriage? The secret is simple – get married, and live, in Ne w Jersey

    Your story

“The whole idea and spirit of Arbor Day is to remind everyoneto plant a tree because of themany benefits of a tree for its life-time. It will create a better envi-ronment for all of us, and for theyoung it creates a wonderful

ing, there were 820 pledges.New to the program are

Burlington Bucks Cards. It is thesame as cash, but in the form of agift card. Each card is worth $10and can only be used at the busi-nesses in the Shop BurlingtonCounty First program. When themoney is used, the program reim-

burses the business.“They make great gifts,” said

Wyche, who gives them to his sonto use in town.

The Moorestown Business As-sociation has about $500 inBurlington Bucks Cards andthere is a list online where youcan purchase them as well. Thereare also window signs availablefor businesses that say they sellthem there.

Members of the councilseemed in favor of the program.

“Great program. Thanks,”Deputy Mayor Phil Garwood said.

“I will remind everyone at theMoorestown Business Associa-tion meeting to get into the direc-tory,” Mayor Victoria Napolintosaid.

In other news:• Members of the public came

before council during the work-shop portion of the meeting todiscuss their thoughts on theparking meters and kiosks.Robert Paglee came before theboard giving it an example of

when kiosks had failed. He dis-cussed his ownership/operationof a large commercial building inMt. Holly during the 1990s and

how the parking meters andkiosks installed, and subsequent-ly removed, affected his propertyand damaged many businesses. He is in opposition to kiosksbeing considered, feeling theywould wreck the Moorestownbusiness district just as he wit-nessed the wreckage they invokedon Mt. Holly. No decision yet hasbeen made on the kiosks or me-ters.

    • Council unanimously ap-proved an ordinance on secondreading authorizing Moorestownto join the Burlington County En-ergy Aggregation Program, which is expected to saveMoorestown residents a mini-mum of 5 percent in energy costs.

The next Moorestown Town-ship Council meeting is sched-uled for Monday, March 24 at 7:30p.m. at the Town Hall with a 7p.m. workshop.

her in dreams and she was able tomake mythological connections.Despite the stories being ancient,Dishong felt the lessons mythsteach are still so relevant todaythat anyone can connect tothem.

“It’s a timeless thing. Peopleoften will overlook the old myths, but they can be very current. I’malways finding inspiration inreading old stories,” Dishongsaid. “We are all fighting thehero’s struggle in own way. We

can all learn from their strugglesand stories.”

The launch party at theMoorestown Community Houseseemed to exactly fit Dishong’swant of having family andfriends come to celebrate andenjoy her CD as well as othermembers of the public. She wish-es to share her love for music andthe harp in shocking genres with

others. At the party, there will be

music from her CD as well ascover songs. There will bedancers from The Dance Lab in

Moorestown, desserts and appleseverywhere to go with the CD’sname. There will be no alcohol, sopeople of all ages can come toenjoy for free.

Dishong hopes those who listento her music feel inspired and em-powered. Though the songs canseem kind of sad, she would likeher audience to take away thatthough life is hard at times, thingswill get better as long as everyonecontinues to try their best.

“We all have our struggles, and

I think we can take away thatwe’re all going through life, and itcan be challenging. But as long aswe persevere and do the best wecan, things will get better and lifewill be good,” Dishong said.
