Lightning-caused wildfires A thunderstorm tracked through the Kamloops Fire Ctr on Friday, bringing lightning, gusty winds and 18 new light- ning-caused wildfires across the region. The largest fire, 20km south of Prince- ton off the Smith Creek For. Serv. rd, reached 24 hectares in size and was re- sponded to by 13 firefighters & heavy equipment. Airtankers attempted to ac- tion the fire but were unable to as a result of poor weather. other lightning-caused fires included a 7.2-hectare fire near hat Creek ranch, north of Cache Creek and a 5-hectare wildfire burning near Chuwanten mtn, east of manning Park. The Kamloops Fire Centre has re- sponded to 212 wildfires burning a total of 3,610 hectares since April 1. of these incidents, 85 were human caused.
