At the Earth's Core is a 1914 science fiction novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first in his

series about the fictional "hollow earth" land of Pellucidar. It first appeared as a four-part

serial in All-Story Weekly from April 425, 1914. It was first published in book form in

hardcover by A. C. McClurg in July, 1922.

David Innes and Abner Perry build a giant mechanical prospector with which they hope to

uncover vast mineral deposits far beneath the surface. On the "Iron Mole's" first trip,

however, they discover that their vehicle can't be steered. Death seems certain, for doesn't

everyone know that the center of the earth is a molten mass of white-hot magma? Instead

what Innes and Perry discover is that the earth's crust in only 500 miles thick and that the

inner surface is inhabited. This is the land of Pellucidar, a place where dinosaurs roam

through the jungles, and where saber-toothed tigers hunt the mastodon and mammoth. A

tiny sun, the molten core of the earth, hangs in the centre of the heavens, shedding

    perpetual daylight upon Pellucidar.

    Introduction

Concept Artists produce the illustrations that help Production Designers to

realise their vision for films. They work on big budget sci-fi, fantasy, or

historical films where visual and special effects are required to create design

spectacles, or fantastical creatures, or other invented elements. Concept

Artists may also be involved in the development process, producing a series ofillustrations that help to sell the film to potential Financiers and/or

    Distributors.

Concept Artists are requested by the Production Designer in the earliest stages

of pre-production (up to six months before filming is due to begin), and

together they begin to conceptualise the visual content of the film. They work

on a freelance basis. The Concept Artists' role is highly specialised, and there is

a limited demand for this work.

It started out exactly like Unit 1 with a box of the unknown going around the

class for people to pick a piece of paper from the box to decide what will

happen for the next 5 weeks for them within the project of Unit 2: Space.

I finally got my paper to find out it was Folder 12. To me at the time I had no

idea what this could mean but was really excited to find out what folder 12meant and how I was to go about it once I did know what it meant. I finally

found out what folder 12 was, which it was based on a book called At the

    Earths Core. At 1st

I was a little confused as to what this meant and then once I

examined the front cover and read the book a bit more I come to realise that

this unit is going to be really interesting and require a lot of creative ideas and

research to come up with my perfect designs.

    Getting Started

I pretty much straight away started with getting to know what sort of designs I wanted to do

for my book by reading passages from the book to get my ideas and finally produce

Influence maps and then a few sketches and Photoshop tries to slowly start coming up with

    Ideas for my designs.

    InspirationArtists That Inspire Me

Wayne Barlowe: artist designer for Dantes Inferno, Avatar and much more!

He is a Great inspiration to me because I really like designs that are out of the

ordinary, bizarre, maybe not human and defiantly yet still feel as if they were

real due to Wayne Barlowe excellent creations he makes. He is a great

inspiration to me and I would one day love to come up with designs as crazy as

his or maybe even have the chance for mine and his designs to come together

    as one.

Here is an example of his work:

    Cerberus design he

    created.

    Both pieces of art

work are based on the game Dantes Inferno.

    Design Ideas So Far

    These Thumbnails are literally just

rough guild lines for me to get a

basic idea of how I roughly want

my Idea/Scene 1 to look like.Keeping the idea of the tropical

beaches and see through clear blue

    waters.

    The Photoshop image was me

    experimenting with a situation of

    rocks and water crashing together

making lots of splashes andbeautiful wave effects and also

    with the distance slowly heading

up to represent the earth on the

    inside.

    What My Essay Is About

I havent fully decided with an idea for my essay yet but I am stuck

between what film to write about and I am debating these from

    Avatar

    Alien vs. Predator

Lord of the Rings (1, 2 or 3)

    Thor

    Pirates of the Caribbean

The main one I am focusing on and can already think of things to say

including introductions, ideas and ideas relating to my passages from

the book At The Earths Core would most likely relate to the film

Pirates of the Caribbean . Straight away this film reminds me of

everything i am trying to create within this project from beautiful

beaches, to dingy creepy woods or just creepy parts in general and

even lost buildings so for me I think I may be focusing more around

    this film so far.

    Small Essay Introduction

Within this Ill be explaining the relation the film has to my project, what concept artist would do to go about creating a film like this and

also what visual effects, lighting and other technics that may have

been used to give the film the moods that it creates towards the

audience and certain points through the film.
