Welcome

We welcomed five teacher trainees to our school this

week; the group will be at Edendale for the next four-

five weeks. We hope that they find their practicum use-

ful and have an enjoyable time here!

Mid-year Reports

Teachers are currently writing mid-year reports for stu-

dents. The reports will give you an indication of how

students have progressed (in core curriculum) since

February and will include a personal/social comment.

Teachers will comment also on next steps and give a

couple of ways that families can help with student

learning at home.

A number of students are away from school regularly

and are missing far too much school. Please be aware

that high absenteeism is detrimental to student learn-

ing and progress.

Grounds and Garden Plans

plans which Opus International have created for our

school. The Board of Trustees has accepted the plans

and we look forward to shortly putting a time-line

together for implementation.

We also appreciate the support that Telecom have

given us by way of volunteers for developing garden

areas. Citibank will also be sending volunteers to help

out in the next few weeks.

Garden to Table

Our Garden to Table programme is going really well; I

have been able to take some time to observe our stu-

dents in action in the past two weeks; it’s great to see

how on-task and enthusiastic they are about the

programme. We have started a new blog about the

programme; you can find it here

tion from time to time; please make comments, ask

questions and let us know what you think.

Garden to Table

Fine Flavours

Garden to Table students have worked hard in the kitchen this fortnight, making Middle Eastern inspired falafel on green salad, with raw grated beetroot and baby carrots. It’s amazing to see the confidence and skills of the Team Endeavour stu-dents improve so quickly in the short time the classes have been running - and who would have thought they’d all eat raw beetroot!

To Market to market Some students also measured, cut and grated ingredients for green tomato and apple chutney. Our school harvest was combined with produce donated by celeb-rity gardener Lynda Hallinan to create this tasty treat. However the chutneys were not eaten in class, they were created as gifts, being bottled and sent off to the Mothers Day stall. Also sold at the stall were strawberry plants with ‘how to grow’ information sheets (yes, we’re sharing our learning with families too!) The productive little stall raised $250 to go towards our first wheelbarrow and kitchen supplies. Thanks to those who supported it!

Garden Art

During garden classes this term we’re creating a special garden incorporating plants and art. The students have started with ‘site analysis’ and a creative ‘wish list’; and are enjoying being involved in improving the area behind their classrooms.

Do We Need Your Help?

Yes we do! We’re collecting plastic bottle tops and ice cream containers for the art projects. Collection bins are beside the timber shed under the blue stairs. Please drop your donations in as you pass. If you’re interested in helping but can’t commit to three hours every week, we’re now taking volunteers for one hour sessions as well. Contact [email protected] we’d love to hear from you.

Follow the new Garden to Table blog on Edendale’s website for pictures and com-ments posted by the students!
