Fourday conference aims to grow

the spirit of entrepreneurship

THE Msunduzi Municipality is to host a four-

day investment conferenceandbusinessweek

aimed at marketing the city as an investment

platform, motivating developments along the

N3 corridor and encouraging entrepreneur-

ship in the Imbali and Edendale areas.

Initiallyproposedby theeconomicdevelop-

ment business unit, the conference and busi-

nessweekwill takeplace inMay.Theproposed

budget for the event is R998 958.

At an Executive Committee (Exco) council

meeting, councillor Eunice Majola supported

the staging of the event saying it will create

more investment opportunities for the city.

A report from economic development on

this event states that the aim is to provide inte-

grated business information and support po-

tential and existing businesses within themu-

nicipal area. The event is seen as an appropri-

ate platform for disseminating and sharing

knowledge to stimulate the local economy.

The targetmarket is registered and operat-

ing small, medium andmicro enterprises and

aspiringentrepreneurs inallmunicipalwards.

The event will also feature the informal trade

sector whereby issues affecting them will be

discussed.

The Msunduzis procurement unit has

awarded a period contract to service provider,

Anzomode (Pty) Ltd, to manage municipal

events and functions and it has been allocated

tomanagetheinvestmentconferenceandbusi-

ness fair.

We appreciate the work that tradi

tional leaders do. What I

dont understand is why

does the government have

to go through so much ex

pense while the country is

on its knees when it comes

to providing good service

delivery. They are asking

for so much, especially

with the cars.

We have mayors and ward councillors

who are getting an allowance, so why is

it a problem when traditional

leaders want the same. If

they want the cars, they

must be given the cars.

They are also working for

the people and deserve to

be taken care of. I support

them and I think its high

time the government

recognises them.

I think that is way too much to ask from

the government. Traditional leaders must

ask those benefits from their

own territories not from the

government. There will be

so much waste as they are

even naming the brand

of the cars they

want. It is unneces

sary and it must not

be allowed.

DRIVERS owe the Msunduzi

MunicipalityastaggeringR70 mil-

lion in unpaid traffic fines.

MsunduziMunicipalityspokes-

person Nqobile Madonda said the

number is steadily increasing.

When Echo asked Madonda

what action the municipality is

taking to recover that amount she

said they rely on the payment of

fines over the counter, adding that

there is not enough manpower in

the traffic department to dealwith

the demand.

Like any other similar institu-

tions, the demand exceeds the

supply, she said.

She said themunicipality plans

to collect R15 million fromdrivers

before the end of the 2014/2015

financial year.

On whether the 50% amnesty

will be implemented, she said this

decision remains the prerogative

of council.

The money collected for traffic

fines is used toaddress servicede-

livery needs, but the municipality

is not solely dependent on this

money to execute operations.

The municipality is not de-

pendent solely on traffic fines to

function. Motorists are urged to

continue paying their traffic fines.

This may be done Monday to Fri-

day during office hours.

She urged drivers with out-

standing traffic fines to pay at 21

Washington Road, at the Pieter-

maritzburg Magistrates Court on

the corner of Otto and Church

streets and on the first floor of the

Pelham Tea Room.

INETHEMBA Mkhize (16), a

Pietermaritzburg songbird

is appealing for sponsorship

for her trip to Germany in June.

Sinethemba, a pupil at Carter

High, is one of the KZN Youth Choir

members who is to compete on an

international level there.

The self-confessed songbird

started her journey to Germany by

entering the first phase of auditions

that took place last year.

She was successful in the first

phase and went into the second

phase where she was chosen to be

one of the choir.

Apart from being amusic fanatic

andasecondaltosingerSinethemba

said that going to Germany will be

openingmanydoors forher in terms

of learning more about music as a

whole.

I havemanaged to collect part of

the R28 000 that is required for the

two-week trip to Germany.

The sponsorship Sinethemba is

appealing for will cover accommo-

dation, clothes and necessities the

trip requires.

Being part of the choir has been

a dream come true and it is some-

thing I have been wishing for ever

since I realised that I ampassionate

about music.

EXUSS fourth generation RX made its

debut at the 2015 New York auto show,

sportinganewbody, redesigned interior,

longer wheelbase and the latest in safety and

technology from the automaker.

The RX SUV, the best-selling model in Lex-

uss26-yearhistory,measures4.8mlong,1.8m

wide,1.6 tallandhasawheelbaseof2.7m.The

rangewillbepoweredby3.5-litreV6petroland

V6 petrol-hybrid engines.

Its expected to be launched later in Europe

towards theendof2015.Details andspecifica-

tions for South Africa will be announced later.

AtthefrontithasnewaversionofLexussig-

naturespindle-grilledesign,chromedtrimand

triple L-shaped LEDs. It has redesigned fog-

lights and assertive flares to its frontwings. Its

blacked-out C-pillars, create what Lexus calls

a floating roof effect, and its new 20 alloy

rims can be fitted with coloured inserts.

At the rear, the all-wheel drive RX has been

enhanced with L-shaped taillights that wrap

around its flanks.

Inside it has new laser-cut wood ornamen-

tation, sunroof, a large head-up display and a

31cm screen. The rear seats can be heatable

and power-adjustable.

ThenewRXwill beavailable (dependingon

market) with an upgraded 3.5-litre V6 petrol

capable of 223kW,mated to a neweight-speed

auto driving power to all four wheels.

A hybrid version of the 3.5 litre V6will also

be available.

The RX chassis has been strengthened to

provide better stability and control through

bends. The body structure has been made

stronger with improved rigidity, handling and

reduced road noise.

Its Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Manage-

ment(VDIM)isdesignedto,Lexussays,recog-

nise potentially dangerous situations and

make automatic adjustments to ensure the car

is kept under control when entering/exiting

corners.

According to Lexus: Most RX versions will

be available with Adaptive Variable Suspen-

sion (AVS), which electronically monitors and

adaptssuspensiondampingandsteeringtose-

curethebesthandlingandrideaccordingtothe

driving conditions.

The system integrates several existing Lex-

usactive safety technologies; pre-collision sys-

tem, lane departure alert and automatic high

beam.

Optional safety kit includes adaptive high-

beam system and blind spot monitor.

The spindle grille and lower centre section

of the rear bumper have a new F Sport mesh

and it has newalloy rims. Inside it gains a new

instrument cluster, leather, sports steering

system and AVS. The drivemode select adds a

former BafanaBafana and Free State Stars

striker Richard Henyekane.

The 31yearold Henyekane died in the

early hours of Tuesdaymorning after being

involved in a car accident.

Henyekane, who earned nine interna

tional caps, enjoyed his finest seasonwhen

he won the Absa Premiership top scorers

award in 2008/09 with 19 goals.

De Villiers said: The passing of Richard

Henyekanecomesasabig shock tous in the

footballfamily. Icannotimaginethepainhis

family is going through, considering the fact

that four months ago they buried Richards

younger brother Joseph.

we offer our heartfelt condolences to his

this difficult time.

Henyekane also played for Golden

Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

His brother Joseph, who likewise repre
