Should EFF overalls and gumboots be kicked out of parliament?NOMPENDULO NGUBANE>>[email protected]

THE Economic FreedomFighters (EFF) in the KZNprovince say that the African

National Congress (ANC) will haveto kick them out of parliament

and they will resist the rule to banthem from wearing overalls andgumboots.

Last Wednesday it was reportedthat sub committee chairpersonRichard Mdakane revealed thatthis year, they would be strict aboutthe way Members of Parliament

(MPs) dress.This includes banning EFF

members in parliament fromwearing overalls and gumboots inparliament.

The EFF’s convener in KZN,Vusi Khoza, told Echo that the rulingparty cannot dictate how they shoulddress.

He said instead of discussingimportant issues like education, the ANC is “whining” about issuesthat don’t matter.

He bashed on the ANC for turninga blind eye on matters that affectthe education system in thecountry.

‘There are schools that have notbeen delivered text books and somedon’t have toilets,’ said Khoza.

“There are so many issuesthey should be discussing. In theeducation system we are facedwith so many irregularities.

“There are still schools without toilets, books that have not beendelivered and over expenditure.

“Visiting schools as the EFF,we are exposed to greatdisappointments.

“Their focus should beon how they can better the educationsystemthathasgoneon itsknees,”hesaid.

Khoza said that the ANC hasdictated enough and it will notsucceed in telling them how theyshould be dressed.

“They have not been exemplaryin their suits and ties, all we have

seen is corruption,’ he said.“Peoplecannotbejudgedbased on

how they are dressed.“They are trying to apply the

rules that were used in the oldgovernment and it is not going towork.

“If we allow this, it meansthey will tell uswhentosleeporwakeup, they will even tell us what toeat.

“AstheEFFintheprovinceofKZN,we will not let that happen.

“We are not working forthe ANC or parliament. Weare working for the people whovoted for us in May so the ANCmust forget that they will winwith their dictatorship,” addedKhoza

Stop the EFF members from wearing overalls

“Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members mustrespect parliament. Theyshould have never beenallowed to even startwearing overalls andgumboots in parliament.I respect the ruleand I hope it ispassed. Theyhave madeparliamenta joke.”PHO-TO:NOM-PENDULONGUBANE

“A person’s character is displayedby his or her appearance, which includes the way theydress. You can wear overallswhen you are on duty, because it is required.Wearing overalls and gumboots in parliament isdisrespectful. They mayfool us and say theyare doing it forthe people, butthey have theirown reasons fordoing that.”PHOTO: NOMPEN-DULO NGUBANE

Job seekers warned against job scamsNQOBILE MTOLO>>[email protected]

JOB seekers need to watch out for job scams.Taryn Heathcote from recruitment and staffing

company Express Employment Professionals, saidthat there are a couple of scams on the market whichinclude fax to email scams, interview or trainingpayment scams and workfromhome opportunities,to mention but a few.

She advised job seekers to investigate theadvertised position and the potential employer.

“Bear in mind that many companies do use the086 fax numbers legitimately and professionally forbusiness, so trust your gut and employ your investigative skills before you make a judgment call.

“Fax to email services are used by thesescammers and the fax number is set up to incur charges beyond standard rates, so the job seeker getsovercharged on their phone bill and the “recruiter”earns revenue for every page that gets faxed throughfor the fake position,” explained Heathcote.

To avoid being a victim of this scam, she said itis important to verify if the company’s contact details

actually exist, and to check for the VAT number.“Make sure that fax is not the only way to commu

nicate with them. Insist on emailing your CV and ifthey still insist that you should fax your CV, they’reprobably not legit,” said Heathcote.

Another employment scam involves job seekerspaying for training or registration before a job interview. Heathcote said that one should not pay arecruiter to get employed or to be interviewed for thatmatter.

“Legitimate recruiters will not ask you a fee to getregistered on their database, because they are gettingpaid by companies to recruit staff for them,” she said.

She also advised job seekers to guard against illegal workfromhome opportunities which includetyping work, addressing envelopes of any kind, addressing labels of any kind, filling of envelopes ofany kind, administrative opportunities, compilingdata and direct sellers of consumer goods that do nothonestly identify themselves, the firm and theirproduct offering in their advertisements.

She said that since 2011, 99% of workfromhomeopportunities have been outlawed by the SouthAfrican government.

New XL SuzukiCelerio arrives in SA

>> The budget car to drive

FORDhas launched it’s hot new sedan in CapeTown and it’s a looker of note, packed withsafety features and loads of technology.

The new Ford Fusion, says the automaker, has refinement and craftsmanship, technolo-giesincludingFord’sadaptivediodeheadlightsand multi-contour seats, and sophisticateddesign.

MarkKaufman,FordSA’svice-president formarketing, sales and service, told Wheels24:“The Fusion is the most technologically ad-vanced Ford vehicle yet to South Africa. Fromconvenience technologies such as Sync 2 anda new active park assist to safety technologiesincluding pre-collision alert with a head-updisplay, the Fusion adds a range of safety andsecurity features for city drivers.”

The car has a choice of three petrol engines-a1.5andtwotwo-litreEcoBoostengines-anda high-powered two-litre TDCi diesel enginethat delivers 132kW/400Nm.

The Fusion has a sports-coupe profile witha low roof anda leanprofile sculpted to convey‘visual lightness’, says Ford.

“The sophisticated and technical front-enddesign has a more prominent trapezoidalgrille, a power-dome bonnet and adaptiveslim-line, laser-cut, headlights.”

The cabin has a digital-analogueinstrument cluster and a sleek wraparoundcentre console design that delivers a sporty,cockpit-like feel.

Ford’s new pre-collision teach with ahead-updisplaydetectsaloomingcollisionandautomatically applies brakes if the driver doesnot respond to warnings. It can also applyautomatic braking to mitigate or avoid acollision with a vehicle ahead. Active city stopoperates at up to 40km/h.

Radar technology further enables the newDistance Indication feature and adaptivecruise control technology. Distance Indicationtells the driver the time gap to the vehicleahead. Adaptive cruise control maintains adriver-selected distance from the vehicleahead.

So, it seems the Fusion delivers qualityand craftsmanship to the refined, elegant, sporty and highly expressive exterior, and aninterior that has optimised ergonomics andcomfort, with premium finishes andequipment.

We’re trying toget somebodyatFord togiveus theprice list, althoughit seemsit’s topsecret(maybe they don’t want to scare anybody).

Dusi favourites show theirhands at Drak Challenge

>> The 64th edition of the Dusi Canoe Marathon takes place fromCamps Drift to Blue Lagoon in Durban from 19 to 21 February 2015SEVERAL Dusi Canoe Marathon

title contenders gave a clearglimpse of their current form in

the build-up to the three day classicbetween Durban and Pietermaritz-burg that takes place from 19 to 21February, with strong performancesat the tough N3TC Drak Challenge inUnderberg on the weekend.

Three of the so-called FantasticFour took part and all finished in thetopfivewithAndyBirkettwinningthetitle for a second year running. Theglaring omission from the seededbatch was popular Dusi K2 champSbonelo Khwela, who took the deci-sion not to paddle the Drak amidstconcerns over a nagging shoulder in-jury that may be a consequence ofovertraining.

Birkett was elated at claiming asecond Drak Challenge title, particu-larly as he has a fondness for theSouthernDrakensbergandoftenbas-esakeypartofhisDusi training in theUnderberg area.

TheEuroSteel acewasparticular-ly surprisedathis staminaduring therace, which was held in demandinglow-water conditions on the Mzim-khulu River, as he had been battlingwith stomach problems since takingpart in a Dusi qualifier on the Croco-dile and Jukskei Rivers in northernJohannesburg the previous week-end.

While he was thrilled to have wonover two other members of Dusi2015’s Fantastic Four - Lance Kime(EuroSteel) finishedsecondandThu-

lani Mbanjwa (Build it/WilliamsHunt) fifth - he was guarded againstusingtheraceoutcomeasaclearformguide for the Dusi in three weeks’time.

“It is a good win for me, but interms of my Dusi training I can’t tickall the boxes because there is no run-ning at all in theDrak Challenge - it isa 100% paddling race,” said Birkett.

“It does tick thepaddlingboxes formethough.ItmeansthatgoingacrossInandaDam Imight be pretty strong. But I have got to be in the mix until Iget to that point!

“Dusi is a different race altogetherand I amreally looking forward to it.”

MbanjwaracedasolidDrak to fin-ish fifth. The popular former Dusi K2champwith Martin Dreyer has threeweekstouphisgameonthewaterandthepaths to justifyhis statusasagen-uine threat to the 2015 Dusi K1 title.

Tenacity is oneofhis strongpointsand “Bungee” - as he is known -showedinUnderbergthathecanholdhisownintrickylowwaterconditionsthatmaywellbeafeatureofthisyear’sDusi.

Kimewas another to have taken ahuge amount away from the week-end’s Underberg assignment. TheMaties star is bullish about his chan-ces of defending his Dusi K1 crown.

Bafana Bafanalooking betterTHE Bafana Bafana current

team and especially the head, coach Ephrain “Shakes” Ma-

shaba, must praised for changing theside around.

According to a couple of formernational team players, the SouthAfrican senior outfit is now lookingbetter in many ways and theypredicted a bright future.

Durban-born and former BafanaBafanacaptainNeilToveysays theSAteam under Mashaba was one of thegood sides at the on-going 2015African Cup of Nations at EquatorialGuinea, before it was bundled out onTuesday night.

ToveyfeelsMashababroughtbackthepride,passionandthemeaningofplaying for the country.

He says the country must notblame or shoot down Mashaba andhis players for failing to go far in theAfcon tournament.

“We played very well. He took ona young teamwhichwas formedonlya few months ago.

“I am glad that we were able tolearn and bring back a lot ofexperience, which is very important

for us going forward in the future.“Let’skeepall theplayers that took

part intheAfconandjustsupportMa-shabawith everything he faces in thefuture.

“Personally, I think our future isbright and in fewmonths or years tocome, the same SA teamwill be giantkillers.

“Let’s be honest here, we playedagainst the best countries and a lot ofthem have been together formore than three or four years,” saidTovey.

Another former SA captain, Lucas“Rhoo”Radebe, says that the countrymust be proud of the way playersrepresented Mzansi, although it wasa learning curve.

“Wewerehereto learnandtheyallplayed with pride but fell short be-cause of experience. Our boys werenew, young and lost. So what?

“Our mission was to learn and tobuild for the future,” said Radebe.

Former Bafana Bafana andOrlando Pirates star striker, BennieMcCarthy, said he was devastatedto see SA going down again, andfailing to get it right three times, but

predicted a bright future for thecountry.

“We are able to score first butalways fail to stay focused or kill thegame. It means there is a problemin our defence or concentration.

“I don’t have a problem

with Mashaba, and he will lead us tosuccess in future,” said McCarthy.

At the Afcon tournament, BafanaBafana lost 3-1 during their firstgame after scoring first.

They played to a 1-1 draw againstSenegal in the second fixture.

In their thirdgameagainstGhana, the SA side were first to find thenest but the bubble bust at the endand they went down 2-1, whichmeans they were booted out of thecompetition.
