FAMILY fromFedsem in Im-

bali has blamed Edendale hos-

pital for thedeathof theirmoth-

er, alleging that shewas refused treat-

ment by the hospital.

NokeliGadlela (45)diedonherway

back home after being told by the hos-

pital to go to Imbalenhle clinic as her

condition was not critical.

When she arrived at the clinic, she

was told tocomebackonfollowingday

for TB tests.

Speaking to Echo, her daughter

Sindiswawho accompanied her to the

hospital said: My mother had com-

plainedthatherbodywassoreandshe

had breathing problems.

Seeing that shewasveryweak,we

calledanambulancewhich tookher to

Edendalehospital.Whenwearrivedat

the hospital, one doctor asked what

waswrongwith her, and told her to go

to Imbalenhle clinic as she was not

sick.

We had to walk by foot from the

hospital to theclinicwithher inacriti-

cal condition.Whenwearrived at the

clinic, the doctor did not even check

her, but gave her an injection and

painkillersandtoldhertocomeback

the following day for TB tests.

She said that on their way back

home, her mother collapsed along

the way and they were assisted by

a motorist who gave them a lift

home. Unfortunately, her mother

did not make it and died just out-

side the gate.

We believe that if she had

been admitted in time, shewould

still be alive today. We demand

answers, as hospitals are sup-

posed to help the sick, she said.

Edendale hospital PRO Sam-

keMncubesaid theycanonly in-

vestigate the matter after the

family has returned the pa-

tients file.
