Renewing friendships at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Reception

Mr. Glen Chatelier, Director of the Office of International Affairs, greeted His Excellency Baron Divavesi Waqa, President of the Republic of Nauru at a reception hosted by the Royal Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of UN-ESCAP and to mark the 73rd Session of the UN-ESCAP meetings in Bangkok (during May 15-19, 2017).

AU Newly Approved Ph.D. Program

AU International Ph.D. Program (Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership/revised 2013) is among the 6 programs approved by the Commission of Higher Education; as announced to the press on May 17, 2017 by Prof. Dr. Khunying Sumonta Promboon, Chair of CHE (the Commission of Higher Education). This latest good news was also reported in the Daily News (https://www.dailynews.co.th). These newly approved 6 programs are selected out of the 18 curricular programs submitted to OHEC for approval by different universities. Congratulations to AU Graduate School of Education (GSE)!!!

Nursing Seminar

The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, Assumption University, organized the seminar for the nursing students under the theme of “International Nursing Education: The Innovative Trend in the 21st Century”. Presided over by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President - Rector Magnificus, the event was held on May 5, 2017 at the Auditorium Hall, de’ Montfort Building, Hua Mak Campus and attended by a number of nursing science students as well as faculty members.

International Council of Nurse Congress

The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, Assumption University, organized the preparatory workshop for nursing students, who will be attending the 26th ICN Congress (CNR & Nurses at the Forefront Transforming Care) at the International Council of Nurses, Barcelona, Spain from May 27th to June 1st, 2017. This Orientation workshop, aimed at equipping students for presenting their academic works/research papers at this international conference in Spain, was held during May 7 to May 8, 2017 at the Common Room, King David, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus.

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOGURT

The School of Biotechnology organized the activities for high school students and other interested individuals highlighting food related technology and agricultural industry aspects. The participants were taught how to prepare a variety of mixed fruit yogurts, yogurt cake, lotion bars by experts from Food Technology and Agricultural Industry, School of Biotechnology, Assumption University. The program was organized on May 8, 2017 at Hua Mak Campus.

International Nurses Day

The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, Assumption University organized an exhibition on the occasion of

the International Nurses Day. Asst. Prof. Dr. Nanthaphan Chinlumprasert, Dean, presided over the exhibition which was held at the Book Store area,

Assumption University, Hua Mak Campus. The exhibition running from May 11 to May 13, 2017 was participated by nursing science students and faculty.

Final Round "AU Business Plan Competition" AU Business Plan Competition, Final Round, was conducted by Assumption Business Leading Entrepreneurship (ABLE), Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics. Organized on May 12, 2017 at Amaret Pitak Room, the Catedral of Learning, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus, the event was participated by many students and faculty members.

AU Marketing and Branding Communication/Advertising Workshop Showcase 2016: (AD of Thrones)

Graduating students from Department of Advertising, Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Assumption University, organized marketing and branding communication showcase: (Advertising Workshop 2016: AD of Thrones) at The Residence, Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on May 12, 2017. The

objective was for students to apply knowledge about strategic marketing communication, branding strategy and advertising in a

real-life situation. This presentation was a simulation of what is called in the advertising industry, “Pitching” or the presentation to the clients.

Not only the clients, but also representatives from well-known advertising agencies joined in and highly commented the occasion

which was sponsored by 3 well known brands: “Yayoi”, Japanese restaurant, “Glendee”, Potato stick and “Kidkid”, Chewing gum.

Besides, the winning teams will get a certificate exclusively from the clients cooperating with the university.

Faculty Activities

As each of the brands have their own territory, to win the throne, the brands have to rely on the insightful facts of the consumers. There will be only one brand that can conquer the throne for each of the territories and win the heart of the consumers.

Research Training Workshop

The research training workshop, for the purpose of professional development in the area of research and academic work publication, was conducted by the Theodore Maria School of Arts for its faculty members. Organized on May 15, 2017 at John XXIII Conference Center, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus, the training was attended by a number of interested faculty members.

2nd AU CA Creative Work Showcase/Exhibition 2016

The Creative Work Showcase/Exhibition 2016 was organized by various departments, Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Assumption University. The exhibition featured various art pieces creatively presented in many contemporary media such as Graphic Design, Illustration, Motion Graphic, Short Film, Performing Art, Information Design, Typographic Art; etc. All are under the theme “Sufficiency”, reflecting the “Sustainable Sufficiency” which can be constructively implemented according to the direction given by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The event, running from June 1 to Jun 15, 2017, was held at the Case Space Revolution, Broccolli Revolution, Sukhumvit 49, Bangkok.

CONVOCATION DAY 2017

The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science organized its CONVOCA-TION DAY 2017 with Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus as an honored guest who presided over the occasion. In attendance were Asst. Prof. Dr. Nanthaphan Chinlumprasert, Dean, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, nursing graduates (Class of 2016) and faculty members. The event was held on June 5, 2017 at the Salle d’ Expo, Assumption Hall, Hua Mak Campus.

Signed MOU Ensuring AU Students’ Job Training

The MOU signing ceremony, aimed at providing AU students’ opportunity for job training, was carried out between Dr. Uree Cheasakul, Dean of Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics, Assumption University and the following business corporations represented by Mr. Wittapon Jawit, Head of Resources Group for Bank of Ayudhaya Public Co. Ltd., Mr. Apirak Varachanonth, Chief People Officer, Major Cineplex Group Public Co. Ltd., and Dr. Preeyakorn Mimaphunt, Managing Director, Dale Carnegie, Thailand. This MOU signing solidified a mutually beneficial partnership, which took place on June 7, 2017, at Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus, also attended by a number of the university’s faculty members and dignitaries.

BANJONG THESIS EXHIBITION 2017

The Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Assumption University, organized the (Elaborately) BANJONG THESIS EXHIBITION 2017 featuring a variety of thesis projects of students from Department of New Media Communication Batch 10 under the concept of : BANJONG King Rama the 9th Royal Project. Presided over by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President - Rector Magnificus, the exhibition showcasing students’ projects, was held during June 7-8, 2017, at the SHOW DC , Atrium Zone , 1st floor, Central World, Bangkok.

The term “BANJONG” is described as follows: 1. Exquisite media: elaborate communication through the new media, 2. Elaborately making the best, and 3. Elaborate through the heart.

MOU Signed Paving Wayfor AU Aeronautic Engineering Students Joining CPL Training Program

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Assumption University and Bangkok Aviation Center; providing AU Aeronautic Engineering students the opportunity for training and obtaining Commercial Pilot Licenses. This unique program will enable them to operate as private pilots on single-engine airplanes and as co-pilots on single/multi-engine airplanes in commercial air transport. Present during the signing ceremony for this worthwhile collaboration, which took place on June 14, 2017 at Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus, were Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President-Rector Magnificus, Dr. Amarit Bhumiratana, Wg. Cdr. Piya Tregalnon and Mr. Tanai Parasupattana, Chief Commercial Officers, Bangkok Aviation Center, along with other AU Administrators.

Certificates of Achievement Presentation Ceremony

Graduate School of Business, Assumption University, arranged the presentation of the Certificates of Achievement to the Administrators and Teachers of Assumption College, Nakhon Ratchasima. Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President - Rector Magnificus, presided over the occasion. Other guests of honor included Rev. Bro. Dr. Achin Tengtrakul, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Rev. Bro. Monthol Prathumrach, Director, Assumption College, Nakhon Ratchasima. The event was held on June 17, 2017 at The Chapel of Annunciation, Assumption University, Hua Mak Campus.

AU Seminar on Effective Nursing Education and Services

The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science organized the educational seminar under the theme “Bridging the Gap: Seamless Collaboration for Effective Nursing Education and Services” for the Schools of Nursing Science’s faculty members from various universities around Thailand. The keynote speakers included medical experts like Dr. Chakrarat Pittaywonganon, Director of Epidemiology, Department of Disease Control and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tassan Boonthong, President of the Nursing Council. Presiding over the seminar, which took place during June 15-16, 2017 at The John XXIII Conference Center, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus, was Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector- Magnificus.

Prizes, Awards and Honors

Mr. Mike Storekey, Toastmaster International President, presented the “Corporate Recognition Award” to Assumption University for supporting and conducting Toastmaster Club Activities for the past 9 years. Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai Fonseka, Vice President for Student Affairs, accepted the award on the behalf of the university. The award presentation took place on May 18, 2017 at Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus witnessed by a number of Thailand senior toastmaster members, honored guests and students.

Assumption University Awarded Toastmaster International’s“Corporate Recognition Award”

Mr. Sansern Aiemsuttiwat, known as Ajarn Big, currently a lecturer at AU School of Law, was recently announced the 1st among 28 successful test takers for becoming judges, which is admistered once a year. He is the 3rd outstanding AU law school’s student to have successfully passed such the test; ranking 1st achieving the highest test scores. Accomplishing excellent results in the numerous test platforms paving ways for his successful related legal career, this very diligent, highly committed and self-disciplined learner towards professionalism, Sansern also came first in the exam for Thai Barrister Certification with only very few passing out of the countless registered test takers. Congratulations to A. Sansern for his extraordinary achievements and we count it as our privilege to have such an unusually excellent lecturer in AU law school.

Prizes, Awards and Honors

Dr. Surasakdi Prugsamatz and A. Siwaporn Prapasirirux, Department of Accounting, Assumption University, have been selected for the best paper awards, by the Management Committees, Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand under the patronage HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The two award recipients completing their research projects under the topics of “Impact of Operating Efficiency on Financial Profitability Performance” and “Financial Health of Assumption University Savings & Credit Cooperative Limited (AUSCC)” were presented the awards during the APHEIT Conference 2017, organized on May 25, 2017 at Rattana Bundit University, Bangkok.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills in more than 14,650 clubs in 126 countries. Clubs can be community-based, themed (by language or profession for example), or corporate (clubs open to employees of a certain company).

AU Team Announced World Champion at L'Oreal 'Brand Storm 2017' in Paris (Being the First Winning Thailand Team)

The two “AU Student Teams”, made up of International Business Management and Marketing Majored Students, Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics, Assumption University, which joined the national

L'Oreal Brandstorm 2017 Competition among many other Thai university teams, emerged as the Top Winner (IBM Team) and Third Winner (Marketing Team) respectively grabbing the first Cash Prize of Baht 100,000 and the CSR Award with the Cash Prize of Baht 20,000. Thus, these two contesting AU Student Teams, claimed the two prestigious awards out of the available three awards.Finally, conquering the eventual L‘Oreal Brandstorm 2017 Challenge, AU Top Winner known as “Chemerical Team” was finally qualified to represent Thailand (and being one of the six Asean Teams) to participate in the L'Oreal Brandstorm 2017 International Competition in Paris, France. Competing against other 41 teams from around the world in Paris, Thailand represented AU Student “Chemerical Team” was voted one of the three finalists which included Germany and Singaporean teams. And ultimately presenting its high-quality and the most unique “Disruptive Innovative Product Idea and Digital Marketing Plan, under the concept: “The Ultimate Refreshing Bullet” to all the audiences and jury committees at the last round, “AU Chemerical Team” eventually came first clinching the top World Class/International Final “Brand Award” (the First Winning Thailand Team ever); receiving a trophy and the cash prize of 10,000- Euros.

Congratulations to our winning “AU Students ChemericalTeam” and their well-deserved accompanying advisors, Dr. Suwanna Kowathanakul and A. Wendy Farrell, to this extremely fierce international competition which has been hosted by L'Oreal for the past 25 years with approximately 95,000 students from 58 countries as participating contestants. L‘Oreal’s this year’s challenge is to “DISRUPT MEN’S GROOMING WITH LIFE-CHANGING INNOVATION”.

One excellent service for new students at AU is the Learning Support Center o�ered by the O�ce of Student A�airs. As one identity of Assumption University, English speaking ability is valued. As all subjects are taught in English, this LSC is highly responsive to students’ needs. Moreover, it is o�ered free of charge.This learning support program is called “English for ALL by Albert Laurence” (E4ALL). The objective is to develop AU freshmen’s con�dence in English communication and to promote a concept of self-directed learning through 7 Steps to English Pro�ciency initiated by our Rector Magni�cus, Rev.
