Superintendent’s Report - April 2014 We were recognized as a Rock Star School by the PA Hybrid Learning Institute. Our high school is out in front of the pack for hybrid learning. 3 rd Place Winner of the 2014 Rotary Four Way Speech Contest - Shilesky Montalvo. Rotary Students of the Month Alexandria Vernon Alexandria is the daughter of Ann Bildheiser. She is the Historian of the Class of 2014. Alexandria plans to attend Harrisburg Area Community College and Bloomsburg University to study forensic nursing. Cameron Martin Cameron is the son of Jay and Elisabeth Martin. He is a member of the Wildlife & Fisheries Club and the Varsity Baseball Team. Cameron plans to attend West Chester University as part of the Pharmaceutical Product Development Program. Thank you to everyone to helped with the Multi Cultural Festival. The Atrium was transformed into a World Bazaar. Sea Cadet and LHS Senior, Emmanuel Rivas carried the American Flag at the beginning of the Parade of Flags. Each School represented a Region. It was the best evening! Mark Your Calendar LHS Band/Orchestra Concert - Thursday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. LMS Musical - Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 7 p.m. LHS Show Choir & Jazz Band Concert - May 13 at 7:30 p.m. LMS Vocal & Instrumental Spring Concert - May 15, 7 p.m. Our top 5% students will be recognized at the May 19 th Board meeting. Congratulations to the following students: Emma Moore, 7 th Grade, LMS – winner of the 2014 Lebanon Community Library Poetry Contest. Alexis Maguire, 5 th Grade, Southeast – Law Day Essay Winner. Alexis wrote about the importance of voting. Academic Sundae was held on Sunday, March 23 rd . Students who had a GPA of 3.25 or higher were invited. The Academic Boosters awarded a total of $4,000; $1,500 in cash and $2,500 in gift cards and prizes. Congratulations to Jessica Mitchell, LMS/ LHS Strings teacher! Jessica was awarded “Outstanding New Teacher” by the Pennsylvania Delaware String Teachers Association. She was recognized at a luncheon at the PMEA conference in Hershey. GET SMART, GET HEALTHY-MAKE HEALTH A HABIT was the theme for the 2013-2014 National Poster Art Contest created by The Links, Incorporated. Project Walking Fete: Make Health a Habit was created in 1995 to teach students the relationship between healthy eating and exercise. The theme this year is designed to broaden and expand this health message to choose healthy life choices. Henry Houck students, at the direction of Tina Washington (Volunteer) and Erin Behney (Art Teacher) created art posters demonstrating healthy lifestyles. The winners were: Category I 1 st Place – Alanna Filiciano, Grade 2 2 nd Place – Elise Brandt, Grade 3 3 rd Place – Kimberly Marquez, Grade 3 Category II 1st Place – Kiara Lopez, Grade 5 2nd Place – Leilanie Guzman Torres, Grade 4 3rd Place – Jasmine Meyer, Grade 5 The Elementary Spelling Bee will be held at Northwest Elementary on April 30 th at 6 p.m. The following students will be contestants. Harding: Nayzeth Guzman Castillo, Anabis Almodovar Pena, Gianna Rodriguez; Henry Houck: Javier Rodriguez Amezquito, Ethan Gragson; Northwest: Majhtaba Alam, Zaelys DeArce, Kaitlynn Torres; Southeast: Braden Allwein, Solia Horn, Chayce Wolfe; Southwest: Crystal Schaefer, I’zaa Vega, Joel Weise.
