Walk to School

Dear Parents,

SCHOOL UPDATE

Rippleside Elementary School

started the year off with ex-

citement and high expecta-

tions. All students had the op-

portunity to travel around the

school and receive training on

expected behavior in all loca-

tions. The students are re-

sponding to the changes, and

the learning atmosphere con-

tinues to improve.

Wednesday, October 2nd, is

our official “Walk to School

Day”. On this morning, stu-

dents will have the opportuni-

ty to get off their bus and take

a supervised walk around our

school prior to starting the

school day. For those of you

who are in walking distance of

the school we hope you will

take advantage of this fun

morning and enjoy a short

walk with your family to Rip-

pleside. Please make sure chil-

dren are dressed appropriate-

ly for the weather; we hope

you can join us!

PBIS UPDATE – CATCH

THE WAVE

This October our theme in the school is Appropriate Ways to

Handle Conflict. This ar-ea will be discussed and tar-geted in the classrooms.

October Appropriate Ways

to Handle Conflict

To start the school year, Rip-

pleside celebrated together

with our first PBIS rally of

the year. We watched 6th

graders as they acted out sit-

uations on how we should

respond when we see certain

situations and behaviors tak-

ing place. The students did a

great job listening, watching

and presenting! The stu-

dents during this rally also

got to see some of our staff

members compete in some

minute to win it games. The

students showed great en-

thusiasm cheering on their

teachers.

We have had a lot of stu-

dents that have been Catch-

ing the Wave for model be-

havior and exceeding expec-

tations. At Rippleside I have

observed along with other

staff members, students that

are inviting people to join

them in activities and also

modeling our expectations

with each other. This is such

a great thing to see and be a

part of. Thank you to all of

our wonderful students who

are making Rippleside a

great place to be.

We have amazing students

and staff at Rippleside.

Please continue to join me on

this incredible journey as we

impact the lives of all stu-

dents at Rippleside.

From Your Principal, Mr. Andrew Dokken

When Does a Student Need a Bus Pass?

Bus passes are required when

your student is to be dropped off

or picked up at any stop except

for the home stop. Please send a

dated note with the bus animal

and destination for a pass to be

completed by the office. If you

are unsure if the bus stops at a

particular stop or are not sure

which bus animal your child will

be riding, please contact the bus

garage at 218-429-0241.

Please note: A permanent bus pass

cannot be completed until a note is

turned in to the office. We cannot

take permission over the phone to

write a permanent pass.

Kids are back in school and the

weather is getting cooler. As a

parent, you know that school

days and chilly temperatures

are a risky combination and can

lead to a frustrating time of

year: cold season. Preventing

the spread of germs at school

and home is essential to keep-

ing you and your children

healthy. Defend yourself and

your family from repeat respira-

tory illnesses as cold season and

flu season approach.

Encourage frequent

hand washing. Fre-

quent hand washing is the

number one way to control

germs and help prevent

colds, influenzas and other

contagious illnesses. En-

courage your child to get in

the habit of hand washing

frequently, before eating

and after group activities,

playtime and using the re-

stroom. When soap and

water is not available, ask

your child to use a hand

sanitizer.

Keep your children

home when they are

sick. This w ill help

prevent other children

and teachers from catch-

ing the illness.

Teach your children to

cover their nose and

mouth w ith a tissue

when couching or sneez-

ing. Remind them to

throw the tissue away af-

ter use and to wash their

hands. Have them cover

their mouth and nose

with their sleeve—not

their hand—when a tissue

is not available.

Teach your children to

avoid touching their

eyes, nose and mouth.

Germs spread this way, so

it’s best to instruct your

children to keep their

hands away from their

faces.

Morning Drop Off

Morning drop off can be a very

busy time at Rippleside. For the

safety of our students, parents and

staff members we ask that every-

one please refrain from entering

the staff parking lot during the

time frame of 7:55AM—8:15AM.

The parking lot has been blocked

off by orange cones for safety pur-

poses. We do not want to have an

accident caused by vehicles quickly

trying to enter the parking lot

while buses are pulling up to the

school as safety is always our main

concern. If you need to use the

frame when the lot is blocked off,

streets surrounding the school.

It takes a community effort in

keeping everyone safe and we

thank you for your help in this.

Walk/Bike to School

Rippleside will be celebrat-

ing its 11th year participat-

ing in International Walk/

Bike to School Day on

Wednesday, October 2nd!

Walk to school day is a day

to encourage students, par-

ents and community mem-

bers to consider walking or

biking to school every day

that weather permits. Chil-

dren should be active 60

minutes each day, and

walking to school can be

part of this. Walking to

school also encourages par-

ents to look for ways we

can improve safety condi-

tions for all walkers and

bikers and to improve the

health of the community of

Aitkin. All students will have

an opportunity to participate

on this day. If your child is

not dropped off at a desig-

nated starting point or will

be riding the bus, they will

not miss out on the fun! Bus

riding students will walk the

walking trail around the

school before entering the

building. All walking groups

will be lead by an adult. For

questions please contact the

Rippleside office.

AITKIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

This would be a good place to insert a short paragraph about your organization. It

might include the purpose of the organization, its mission, founding date, and a brief

history. You could also include a brief list of the types of products, services, or

programs your organization offers, the geographic area covered (for example, western

U.S. or European markets), and a profile of the types of customers or members served.

It would also be useful to include a contact name for readers who want more

information about the organization.

Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped get the 2018-2019 school year off to a great start! Parent and grandparent volunteers are always needed to make our school a better place. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Brittney Galbraith at bgal-braith@isd1.org or 218-927-4838. A background check is required for anyone to volunteer in the school and will be completed once your form is turned in to the office. You will be contacted only if your background check does not come back clear. If you are interested in volunteering for special events around Rippleside, I will contact you closer to those event dates to schedule times with you. Thank you to all of our volun-teers!
