GOOGLE INC.

Google Inc. is an American Company founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page in 1998 Its headquarters lie in Menlo Park, California. It specializes in Internet based products and services, most popular being the search engine “Google”.Serves more than 80% of the world’s internet users.

 1-Google Video and YouTube Started off with Google Video

which allowed its users to search the

broadcasts. Bought YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion

in stock.

2- Gmail Free email service accessible from any

browser anywhere in the world. Its advantage is that it gave its users an

email address that was independent of any particular Internet Service Provider (ISP), making it easier to maintain a permanent email address.

3-GOOGLE BOOKS Searches the full text of books and

magazines that Google has scanned, converted to text, and stored in its digital database.

BACKGROUND Sergey Brin and Larry Page who were PhD

students at Stanford University at the time. In 1996, they began collaborating on a search

engine that was initially named “Backrub”. After taking up too much bandwidth from operating at Stanford’s servers for more than a year, the search engine finally got registered as Google.com on September 15th.

The word “Google” was formed by playing on the word “googol”

BACKGROUND In August 1998, Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote

a check for $100,000 to an entity that doesn't exist yet—a company called Google Inc.

In 1996, they began collaborating on a search engine that was initially named “Backrub”.

The search engine finally got registered as Google.com on September 15th.

. On September 4, It filed for incorporation in California and set up its workplace in a garage. The first patent filed under the name "Google Inc." was filed on August 31, 1999.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This structure is a vertical approach to management where the decision making is done at the top and orders are sent down to the operational employees at the bottom of the organizational hierarchy as is done in most of the organizations.

Google uses a cross functional organizational structure. They purposively maintain a small-company feel, believing every employee is a hands-on contributor and everyone is an equally important part of Google’s success. Sundar Pichai is now CEO of Google. Pichai has been running Google since October. Now, he's officially in charge.

Employees can communicate directly with

their ultimate bosses. Are free to communicate and express

themselves. Moreover, Google’s executives make it a point

to make themselves available once a week to interact with the employees at Google.

The executives at Google pass on the flow of information to their subordinates

The employees receive work related emails even when at home.

Video conferencing is done and various other channels are used like emails and texts .

All the employees at Google are free to communicate with each other regardless of structural levels.

For example, Google has a grievances officer to listen to the grievances of all the employees at Google.

The company mainly emphasizes on teamwork.

Employees work together across product lines to deliver an unparalleled experience.

The best example for this is ANDROID. All the Google products have converged into

android beautifully. This was made possible by fast and effective communication.

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION Externally, Google communicates with

Advertising agencies, customers, clients and the public through various social forums as well as through its Marketing and Communications team etc.

CONCLUSION To conclude it all, Google is a unique organization

having a unique culture that very few organizations can afford.

Google has employees whose sole purpose is to keep employees happy and maintain productivity.

We believe that Google’s success is due to their innovative ability, and focus on research.

Moreover, the most contributing factor is the very open communication network resulting in higher job satisfaction and better work performances.
