    Empty Set

    A set consisting of no element is called an Empty SeSet or Void Set.

    Is denoted by the symbol or { }.

    e.g.

    {x: x N , 3 < x < 4} =

    {x:x R , x2+ 1 =0} =

    Non Empty Set

    A set which has at least one element is called a non- eme.g.

    A = {3,3,3,4,6,9}

    The set { 0 } is not an empty set as it contains the0.

    The set { } is not a null set. It is a set contaielement

    Finite Set

    A set in which the process of counting of elements comend is called a finite set.

    e.g.

    a) Set of even natural numbers less than 50

    b) {x : x I , x is a factor of 1000 }.

    Infinite Set

    A set in which the process of counting of elements comes to an end is called a infinite set.

    e.g.

    a) Set of all points in a plane

    b) { x I : x

    Subset

    The set B is said to be subset of set A if every element

    B is also an element of Set A.we write it as:

    B A or A B

    B A is read as B is contained in A or B is a subset of A

    e.g.Let A= {1,2,3,4} B = { 1,2,4 }. Here B is a subset of A

    A. is a subset of every set.

    A A .every set is subset of itself.

    Proper Subset

    A set B is said to be proper subset of set A if every elemB is an element of A whereas every element of A element of B.

    we write it as:

    B A , B is a proper subset of A.

    A , empty set is not the proper SetA A , every set is not the proper subset of itself.

    e.g.if A= { 1,2,3 } B= { 1,2 }

    then B A

    Power Set

    The set formed by all the subsets of a given set A is cpower set of A.

    denoted by P (A)

    e.g.

    A= {1,2,3} then

    P(A)= { ,{1},{2},{3},{1,2},{2,3},{3,1},{1,2,3}}In P(A),every element is a set and if n(A)=m then n[ P

    Equal Set

    Two sets A & B are said to be equal if every element oelement of B and every element of B is an element of A.

    If A B & B A then A= B.

    e.g.

    {2,5,6}= {5,2,6}

    {2,4,7}={2,4,4,7,2}
